NFL Network Coverage Thus Far
Hell. . .if I didn't know any better, I wouldn't even know there was another team on the field tonight.  The NFL Network makes it sound like it's just going to basically be the Packers scrimmaging against themselves for 3 hours.

What a joke.  All the more reason to hope the Vikings kick this team's ass.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:03 PM CST reply actions

Coin Toss
The Vikings have won the toss, and chosen to receive.

The Vikes have been pretty good at scoring on opening drives this year. . .let's hope that continues.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:04 PM CST reply actions

So much for that
Vikings start the game with a 3-and-out. . .2 Taylor runs for 6 yards and a 1-yard completion from Jackson to Williamson.

Kluwe punts it down to the Packer 34.  1st and 10, Green Bay.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:09 PM CST reply actions

Packers Driving
Down to the Minnesota 21 so far.  Favre 3/4 for 38 yards on the drive.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:13 PM CST reply actions

Packers Held to 3
After a few nice plays by the Vikings, the Packers have to settle for a 38-yard Dave Rayner field goal.

Packer drive went 44 yards in 9 plays, taking 3:42 off the clock.

Packers 3, Vikings 0, 9:09 left in the first quarter.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:17 PM CST reply actions

Good return by Johnson
Bethel gets the Vikings some good starting field position at the Minnesota 41-yard line.

1st and 10, Vikings, with 9:03 left in the first quarter.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:20 PM CST reply actions

Another three-and-out for the Vikes
As the rain here is coming down hard enough to completely hose my DirecTV signal, Jackson gets sacked on 3rd down, forcing the Vikings to punt.

Packers take over on their own 29, 1st and 10, with 7:08 left in the first quarter.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:25 PM CST reply actions

Packers Driving Again
Already back down to the Minnesota red zone.

Man, we look like ass on D tonight.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:30 PM CST reply actions

BLOCKED!!
Vikings "block" the field goal attempt when Dave Rayner slips and doesn't get the ball more than 2 feet off the ground.

Packers 3, Vikings 0, 3:24 left in the first quarter.

Vikings have the ball on their own 29-yard line.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:34 PM CST reply actions

Troy Williamson...
he needs to be benched after a drop like that, terrible, simply terrible.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 7:38 PM CST reply actions

More Minnesota penalties
Viking first down is nullified by an illegal shift penalty, and the Vikes are forced to punt again.

Woodson gets the ball back to the Green Bay 28.

Packers 3, Vikings 0, 1:11 remaining in the first quarter.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:40 PM CST reply actions

End of the first quarter
3-0, Packers after 1.

Green Bay has a 1st and 10 from their own 33 when we get back.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:45 PM CST reply actions

Hey, more penalties!
Another defensive holding penalty helps the Packers move downfield.  They've already got 5 for 25 yards.

Like we need to give them any help.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:51 PM CST reply actions

Wow...
That fumble call is sooo frustrating. We also can't seem to cover Donald at all nor rush Favre which means that we are giving up huge plays and it looks pretty bad.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 7:53 PM CST reply actions

Surprise! Packers driving again
This time they're down to the Minnesota 16, due to the fact that the Vikings STILL haven't figured out that Donald Driver is a pretty good WR.

Un-fucking-believable.

Still 3-0, Packers, with 11:44 left before halftime.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:54 PM CST reply actions

Packers Again Get Nothing
Rayner comes in and doinks a 33-yarder off the upright.

Why can't the Vikings do something with these lucky breaks they seem to be getting?

Packers 3, Vikings 0, 11:29 left before the half.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 7:58 PM CST reply actions

Penalties
6 of them reflects a terrible coaching job. Like the commentators have said, we are very lucky to be in this game.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 8:05 PM CST reply actions

Another three-and-out for the Vikes
The Vikings are lucky they're not getting blown out right now.

Green Bay will start out at their own 10 yard line after a penalty on the punt return.  Yes, that's right. . .a penalty on the Packers.

Ah, hell, it'll just be a matter of time before they're in the Minnesota red zone, anyway.

3-0, Packers, 9:15 left in the first half.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:05 PM CST reply actions

Holy crap!!
The Vikings actually make the PACKERS go 3-and-out!

Well, you don't see that every day.

Jon Ryan punts one to Mewelde Moore.  MeMo makes a fair catch at the Minnesota 40.

1st and 10, Vikings, 7:32 left in the half.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:10 PM CST reply actions

Gameplan...
I don't really understand our gameplan at the moment. We should be running the ball yet we continue to throw the ball. What the fuck are we doing?

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 8:12 PM CST reply actions

At this point
I'm not sure if we have a gameplan at all.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:15 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed
Agreed, our D is just sooo bad; they are giving Donald Driver his way every time and no one is pressuring Farve.

Our O isn't looking very good but better than when Brad is at the helm.

Why didn't Winfield get that fumble?

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 8:18 PM CST up reply actions

Three-and-out once again
Fucking unbelievable.  And another penalty on the punt for good measure.

1st and 10, Green Bay, from their own 18 yard line.  5:06 left to go until halftime.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:14 PM CST reply actions

Halftime
I think at halftime Brad has go to give out the memo of the gameplan, ask nicely for the team to stop making stupid fouls and ask Troy to hold onto deep passes.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 8:24 PM CST reply actions

Two-minute warning
Packers with 3rd and 6 from the Minnesota 48 as we hit the 2-minute warning.

Still 3-0, Packers.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:28 PM CST reply actions

Three-and-out, one more time
I don't know how many total yards the Vikings have here so far, but it's only got to be about half of what they've racked up in penalty yardage to this point.

Kluwe punts another one away to Woodson.  Woodson returns it to the Minnesota 45 yard line.

3-0, Packers, 1:14 left until halftime.

Favre's already thrown 29 passes. . .only completed 15, but still.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:35 PM CST reply actions

Perhaps...
Wow this play calling is absolutely terrible. Childress said that he was going to attack the GB D and not make special plays for Jackson but all I can see is him making terrible calls, not running the ball. It is actually making me sick.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 8:35 PM CST reply actions

I don't get it, either
I haven't seen a single designed rollout yet.

We're not running the football against a defense that isn't that good against the run.

What in the hell ARE we doing, exactly?  Besides punting a lot.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

Jacksons arm?
I thought he had a good arm.  It looks like Brad doesn't want to give him a chance to go deep.  I've seen Johnson attempt more deep passes.  From the one he threw looked like they should have been going deep all game!  If your only going to be running 5-10 yard routes you might as well have Johnson in there.

by mossman84 on Dec 21, 2006 10:47 PM CST up reply actions

Packers Get 3 Before the Half
Rayner knocks one through from 44 yards out as the half expires.

Packers 6, Vikings 0 at halftime.  And it probably SHOULD be about 24-0.

Packers' final drive went 19 yards in 5 plays, taking 1:14 to accomplish.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:41 PM CST reply actions

Stats
Total yards

Packers 190, Vikings 38

First downs

Packers 14, Vikings 1

Christ. . .

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:45 PM CST reply actions

Good start to the second half
Vernand Morencey fumbles the kickoff, and ends up getting pushed out of bounds at the Green Bay 6.

1st and 10 for the Packers.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:54 PM CST reply actions

Key to the V...
Gonzo, what do you think we need to do this half, besides stop sucking a huge nut?

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 8:55 PM CST reply actions

Sigh. . .
Favre hits Sharper right in the chest from about 3 yards away, and it falls to the turf.

Argh.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:57 PM CST reply actions

Vikings in Packer Territory
Of course, it's because Green Bay's punter shanked one, not because of anything the Vikings did.

1st and 10, Vikings, at the Green Bay 48-yard line.

6-0, Packers, 12:26 left in the third quarter.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 8:59 PM CST reply actions

Moving the chains...
Well I guess Chili read the website or something becuase he suddenly is doing what our team does best; running the ball.

Our 2nd First down of the night, wow!

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:04 PM CST reply actions

Jackson intercepted
3rd and 6, T-Jack trying to make something happen, and throws an interception to Charles Woodson on a pass intended for Travis Taylor.

I think we just pissed away the best chance we're going to have tonight.

1st and 10, Packers, from their own 40 when we come back.

6-0, Packers, 9:07 left in the third quarter.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:07 PM CST reply actions

Jesus...
I'll give Jackson alot of bygones since he is a rookie but I won't give them to Brad Childress. His play calling is terrible. WTF is he thinking?

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:08 PM CST reply actions

Three and out for the Packers
Ryan punts it into the end zone.

1st and 10, Vikings, from their own 20.

6-0, Packers, 8:04 left to go in the third quarter.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:12 PM CST reply actions

Of course. . .
HUGE pass to Taylor. . .

Brought back because of another illegal shift penalty.

God damnit, penalties are pissing me off.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:14 PM CST reply actions

FOR FUCK SAKES!!!!!
THIS IS TERRIBLE! Fuck this coaching staff, I offically have no faith in them. We continue to shoot ourselves in the foot by committing fucking terrible penalties.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:15 PM CST reply actions

helllllllllllllllll yeah
YESSSSSSSSSS THAT WHAT WE NEEDED!!!!!

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:20 PM CST reply actions

TOUCHDOWN, VIKINGS!!
Favre throws a patented Brett Favre pick into the hands of Fred Smoot, who takes it to the house for a Minnesota touchdown!

Longwell hits the extra point. . .and, just like that, the Vikings have the lead.

7-6, Vikings, 5:10 left in the third quarter.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:21 PM CST reply actions

Lets hope...
that this brings our guys to life, I think it will pump up our D and hopefully the O can now squash the faggers.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:22 PM CST up reply actions

haha!
hahahahah! there are the two picks, back to back.

Lets take advantage now.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:24 PM CST up reply actions

And another pick!
This time by Darren Sharper, as Favre throws a balloon up for grabs.

1st and 10, Vikings, from their own 29.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:24 PM CST reply actions

Both D's
I think both D's should play both D and O, perhaps we would get somewhere then.

Can Winfield throw the ball? ;)

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:28 PM CST reply actions

But we go three and out
Damnit. . .I was hoping we could take advantage there.

Kluwe punts to Woodson, who crosses midfield on the return, but it's brought back courtesy of a. . .gasp. . .penalty on the Packers!?  Holy crap, that never happens.

Brings the ball all the way back to the Green Bay 10.

7-6, Vikings, 3:50 left in the third quarter.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:28 PM CST reply actions

End of the third quarter
The Vikings were thoroughly outplayed for the first 2 1/2 quarters, but have turned it on here.

The third quarter comes to an end with the Vikings leading 7-6.

15 minutes from ending the Packers' season and making Viking nation VERY happy.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:33 PM CST reply actions

Christ, another 3 and out. . .
Get 9 yards on first down, and then we end up punting.

Again I say. . .argh.

Woodson coming off the field prior to the punt.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:36 PM CST reply actions

So far tonight. . .
The Vikes have 8 three-and-outs out of 10 possessions.  And another one that ended in an interception.

Yet they have the lead.  This game is screwy sometimes.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:39 PM CST reply actions

It's nauseating
How hard Collinsworth is cheering for Brett Favre.

Hey, Cris. . .you're supposed to be a neutral party here.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:41 PM CST reply actions

Totally Agree...
I totally agree. This entire broadcast has been "fair and balanced" towards Green Bay. Where is the love?

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:45 PM CST up reply actions

Well...
I think if GB scores here the game is over. We haven't been able to do,well, anything at all tonight. I find it hard to believe that we would be able to either go down field and score 3 let alone 7.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:43 PM CST reply actions

Oh, fucking hell. . .
Napoleon Harris with a personal foul after the Packers gained about 3 yards on 3rd and 13.

Fuck fucking fuck.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:46 PM CST reply actions

Well
Lets hope our D can step it up and make something happen, atleast hold them to 3.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:48 PM CST reply actions

YES!!
Favre completes a pass to Bubba Franks near the end zone, and he appears to be heading to the end zone. . .

But he FUMBLES and the Vikings recover!!

1st and 10, Vikings!

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 9:49 PM CST reply actions

Collinsworth...
Does he have a GB jersy on or is it just me?

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:50 PM CST reply actions

Hurrah
3rd First Down of the game or perhaps the 4th, either way its pretty bad.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:52 PM CST reply actions

Oh noes!
Well I think we are done now, Brett throws a deep ball to the MIN 28 with 2.45 left, all they have to is run the clock and kick a 3.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 9:59 PM CST reply actions

Two-minute warning
Packers have a 3rd and 12 from the Minnesota 29 as we hit the two-minute warning.

Vikings still lead 7-6.

Time for the defense to come up big on this play here. . .at least make the FG attempt for Rayner as long as possible.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 10:00 PM CST reply actions

HA HA HA HA!!
Holding on Bubba Franks on a play that would have put the Packers inside the 5.

Still third down, though.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 10:03 PM CST reply actions

Damn it!
Now my DirecTV is going to hell.  I'm blacked out over here.

Of all friggin' times.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 10:04 PM CST reply actions

Clutch
Well I think this game hinges on this FG. We haven't  gone anywhere all day, if they make this we need a FG to win with 1.38 to play and 2/3 timeouts; pretty easy right? Well for a team with 3 First downs it is like climbing Mt. Everest.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 10:05 PM CST reply actions

It's Good.
They made it. so we have have 1:34 to march down the field now.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 10:07 PM CST reply actions

Packers re-take the lead
Rayner knocks one through from 44 yards to give the Packers a 9-7 lead.

Packer scoring drive went 41 yards in 7 plays, taking 3:13 to accomplish.

9-7, Packers, 1:34 left in the 4th quarter.

And DirecTV still sucks.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 10:08 PM CST reply actions

Kick Return
Bethel is in and returns the ball to the MIN 32. I stand corrected, we have 1 timeout.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 10:08 PM CST reply actions

hehe
I thought I'd help let you know what was going on gonzo, didnt know you could still watch it.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 10:10 PM CST reply actions

Don't worry
I'm "watching" on NFL.com with the little helmets moving back and forth.  I still don't have my TV.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 10:11 PM CST up reply actions

Ball game
Vikings lose 9-7

The season is officially over.

by Christopher Gates on Dec 21, 2006 10:12 PM CST reply actions

Yeah
Yeah, sack. Penalties. The works.

Game over.

Pathetic. The play calling in this game was shocking, absoluetly shocking. I have no idea how he    has gotten a HC job. He wouldn't even make a College  job. I am a Florida State fan so I hate Jeff Bowden but I think he would've done a better job then Brad did. Jesus.

by FSUViking on Dec 21, 2006 10:15 PM CST reply actions

Sucked
That might have been the worst game I have ever watched the Viks play.  Brad sucks, bring back Les Steckel.

by mtvikings on Dec 21, 2006 10:31 PM CST reply actions

Bring back Tice
I have to agree with mtvikings.  Brad has not shown that he is any kind of head coach.  He is trying to make his players fit his system when that is not the type of players they are.  I think his "west coast" offensive scheme should be moved so far west it drowns in the Pacific.

by mossman84 on Dec 21, 2006 10:54 PM CST reply actions

Refs
Is it just me or do you guys think that the penalty calling is slightly one sided in these games.  I would like to see just one game where the refs don't have such one sided vision.  Don't get me wrong the Vikings didn't play well enough to really win the game but when the refs only see Viking penalties it doesn't make it any easier.

by mossman84 on Dec 21, 2006 10:59 PM CST reply actions

No way...
The refs got it right about 90% of the time, perhaps they were over anxious at times to throw the bananna but you have to take responsbility at some point and  the fact that we have been the most penilized team for some years shows that this isn't a one off event.
