Yes, I know it's only Saturday morning.  Unfortunately, as soon as this post goes up, I'm headed back to the Keesler Medical Center to be with Mrs. Gonzo, who is currently suffering from a pretty nasty viral pneumonia that's she's battled all week and was finally admitted to the hospital for last night.  Once the antibiotics kick in, she'll be fine. . .they tried treating it as an outpatient thing with antibiotics at first, but she had a follow-up appointment yesterday and it was determined that that wasn't working, so now they're treating her inpatient style.

So, there's a very good chance I won't be seeing the game on Sunday, depending on her condition, and there's a very good chance that my presence around here this weekend is going to be kind of scarce.  I just came home overnight to organize a few things and to get a little bit of sleep, since I wasn't going to get any at the hospital.  Hence, the Open Thread goes up now.

So, the quickie analysis:  The Vikings are playing better than they were the first time these two teams met, and the Lions are playing worse.   The Vikings are a pretty decent team at home, while the Lions are relatively terrible on the road.   Adrian Peterson is back for Minnesota.  The Vikings have won 3 of their last 4, while Detroit comes to the Dome looking for their fourth straight loss.  I think they're going to find what they're searching for.

Gonzo's Final Score Prediction:  Vikings 27, Lions 20

Have a pleasant weekend, folks, and I'll have any status updates here as they become pertinent.

SKOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL VIKINGS!!!!

Update [2007-12-1 20:21:15 by Gonzo]:

Well, after almost two full days of being at the Medical Center full-time, the doctors and nurses there have pretty much told me to go away for a while and do something to de-stress before my head explodes. I don't even know if "de-stress" is a word, but I know what they're saying. My wife is making pretty good progress, and she's in very good hands.

So, there's a pretty good chance I'll be here tomorrow after all. Because, hey, if there's one thing that can decrease my level of stress, it's Vikings football. I hope.

No word on who the Vikings' #3 QB is going to be, but I'd assume that it's Kelly Holcomb.  If I find out for sure, I'll pass it on.

Detroit's inactives when I get them.

Outstanding!
Fox has somehow managed to sync the audio from the Carolina game with the video from the Minnesota game.

Amazing that nobody's caught it yet.

Redskins
The Fox pre-game folks just said that the Redskins have been told that on their first defensive play, they're going to line up with 10 defensive players in memory of Sean Taylor.

Outstanding move.  I'm probably going to flip over to the Bills/Redskins game to see it, so I apologize if I happen to miss anything.

Lions Win the Toss
Cason returns the kick to the 18-yard line.

The Redskins will be on offense first in the Buffalo/Washington game, so I'll have to flip later on.

Did I mention that Adrian Peterson is back?

Well, if I didn't, he just scored a touchdown from 16 yards out.

Longwell adds the extra point to make the score 14-3, Vikings.

Vikings drive went 84 yards in 10 plays and took 5:34 off the clock.  Both of the Vikings' drives thus far have been amazing.

Wow. . .what an amazing, incredible return by Allison.  He was hardly touched.

Absolutely freaking amazing.

They're saying it's 103.  I thought Allison was further back in the end zone than that.  Ah, well, either way, I'll take it.

Updates on games including other 5-6 teams
Seattle 21, Philly 17 with 1:21 left until halftime (we're pulling for Seattle)

Washington 6, Buffalo 2, just before half (and, as much as I hate to say this given Washington's circumstances, we're realistically cheering for the Bills).

The Saints, Bears, and Cardinals play later on this afternoon.

INTERCEPTION!!
Ray Edwards knocks the ball out of Kitna's hands as his arm is going forward, and right into the arms of. . .

Kenechi Udeze!?

Udeze looks like he's moving in slow motion down the sidelines, and he's finally brought down at the 28 or so.

And Peterson busts another 14-yard run to put it into the red zone.

TOUCHDOWN, VIKINGS!!
Jackson throws a fade pass that's a bit wobbly, but that doesn't stop Sidney Rice (sponsored by The Daily Norseman) from pulling it in for another Minnesota touchdown.

Detroit can't stop us.  They haven't come close yet.

Vikings' drive went 27 yards in 5 plays, taking only 48 seconds to accomplish.

The kickoff will bring the first half to an end.

Incredible, INCREDIBLE half of football.

Vikings 35, Lions 10, headed into the locker room at halftime.

Minnesota takes the second-half kickoff and moves it 66 yards in 9 plays, capped off by a 13-yard touchdown run by Adrian Peterson.

Drive took 4:54 off the clock.

5 offensive possessions for Minnesota, 5 touchdowns, AND a kickoff return for a TD.

Chris Kluwe has to be one lonely guy at this point.

Kitna hits Furrey for a pass, Furrey goes down, and they're saying he wasn't touched.

It looks like he was.  If they review this play, it should be overturned and it should be 1st and 10, Detroit.

Both the other games that are pertinent to us are going down to the wire.  Buffalo looking to kick a GW-FG, and the Eagles driving against Seattle.

Buffalo's FG attempt is from 50-plus.

Oh, BIG penalty on Washington moves Lindell's FG attempt 15 yards closer. . .they tried to call consecutive time outs.

That's HUGE.
