Vikings @ Jets, Open Thread

Minnesota Vikings at New York Jets
The Meadowlands
East Rutherford, New Jersey

  1st 2nd 3rd 4th F
Vikings 14 10 10 3 37
Jets 3 10 0 7 20

Well, THAT certainly took long enough to format.

Anyway, it's about an hour before kickoff of the Vikings' nationally televised clash with the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets! Hope everyone enjoys our boys getting to perform on the big stage. My biggest hope is that the announcing won't suck as much as it seems to in every other Vikings game.

Enjoy, folks! I'll be in and out with comments for most of the evening.

Another defensive TD
for Minnesota, as Pete Kendall was nice enough to snap one about 2 yards over Kellen Clemens' head.  The ensuing scrum saw Brian Robison jump on the ball and take it into the end zone for a TD.

Robison also forced a fumble on the play before.

31-13, Minnesota, 6:18 left in the third quarter.

Kickoff are a growing concern...
...not sure if anyone else is noticing this but it would seem that the Vikes are giving up too much field position off the kickoffs.  Last night against the Jets, the kickoffs were landing at the 20 (any average college kicker can do that)...There is no way the Vikings can have a consistent measure of success if they continually need to defend a short field, where if they hold, they will be on offense deep in there own territory.  Its all about field position....

I would suggest that we use Kluwe punting on kickoffs since that would yield similar yards and save a position on the roster.

Somebody needs to get axed!

Coverages still suck
Kluwe can't kick off or he would be.

I think they are just Saving Longwells leg for the regular season. The other punter is worse then Longwell at kicking off.

VikeGuru is a doofus!!

I agree...
...my point was to have kluwe punt from the kickoff formation since it would be about the same yardage and may in fact provide additional hangtime for the coverage to catch up.

Those kicks on friday night were travelling 50-yards at best got to the return receiver in about 2 seconds.  That gives about a 2 second romp upfield, for any return man about 20 yards.
