Yes, folks, the short week is over, and in just about an hour and a half, the Beloved Purple will be looking to get back to .500 for the first time this season as they match up with the Detroit Lions.
Like the title says, under Brad Childress, the Vikings generally don't blow teams out. . .unless they're the Lions, particularly in the cozy confines of the Metrodome. The Lions haven't won in Minneapolis since 1997, and last year's 42-10 thumping of the Lions was the biggest margin of victory the Vikings have had over anyone since Brad Childress became their head coach.
The Lions, on the other hand, have been awful this season. Don't believe me? Here are their league-wide rankings in all the major offensive and defensive categories:
Offense
Points Scored/Game - 16.5 (28th)
Total Yards/Game - 263.0 (28th)
Rushing Yards/Game - 72.2 (31st)
Passing Yards/Game - 190.8 (19th)
Defense
Points Allowed/Game - 36.8 (32nd)
Total Yards/Game - 429.0 (32nd)
Rushing Yards/Game - 180.0 (30th)
Passing Yards/Game - 249.0 (29th)
So, they're in the bottom five in the NFL in every major statistical category, except for passing yards on offense. . .and even that doesn't play much of a part going into today's game, because the Lions will NOT be starting Jon Kitna at quarterback. They'll be starting Dan Orlovsky, from all indications, and they'll have Drew Henson backing him up.
This game could get very ugly, very quickly. Hell, this game SHOULD get very ugly, very quickly. Then again, we as Viking fans know better than anybody that the way that things should go on the field isn't always the way it happens. I'm picking the Minnesota blowout today, though I almost feel bad for doing so.
Discuss the game here, folks! With the set-up the way it is, this is by far and away the best place for in-game discussion. I hope to see as big a gathering here today as we had on Monday night.
SKOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL VIKINGS!!!!

Woe is me
I must work from 1-8. oh well. I am taping the game and have friends sending me updates via text during the game, so all is not lost. One of them is a Lions fan too, although a very pessimistic one (except it’s probably more realistic when it comes to the Lions). Enjoy the game everyone.
In AP I trust

Beware
This is the type of game that Chilly can lose for us. Vanilla play calling. No killer instinct. He lets the hungry Lions hang around long enough to be dangerous. Then anything can happen. Get a spine Chilly. Hit them in the mouth; early and often.
I hope my “bad vibe” about this game is unfounded.

No TV here
I’d love to stay here and discuss the game. But the only way I can follow the game is on CBS’s gametracker. Now if we had a gametracker here……………….
If you can get your hands on the ball you should be able to catch it no matter what!
by Jimemort on Oct 12, 2008 11:03 AM CDT 0 recs
Against the Lions, vanilla playcalling works. I’m not worried in the least. The passing attack would have worried me, but Kitna’s not starting for them and from what I’ve read about Orvolosky his passes are pretty errant. I’m expecting at least a couple picks and numerous sacks on defense. The offense should be able to run all over them and AD gets a chance to make up yards from monday night

Watch the game on the internet for free
If the game is not on in my area I go and watch it on http://stoogetv.com/player.html
Now if the game is not on one of the channels to the left side, the moderators will post links to the other games. Now you have to be the first person to click the link for that game for it to work and you to be able to watch the game, but do not worry they will keep posting new links for the game every few moments so you can watch the game. The site runs off donations so toss them a couple if you appreciate their service.

Sid
Why is your official Daily Norseman player (Sidney Rice) out again? I think it’s good for AA to get some more time, especially against the lions, but it’s not like Sidney is a vet who doesn’t need some playing time.
Does anybody know exactly what his injury is and how long he’s expected to be out?…Also, when should we expect Madieu back?

Vikings down the Kluwe punt inside the 1-yard line. Nicely done by the Viking special teams.

6-0 Atlanta over Chicago
Atlanta is throwing underneath all over the place against the Bears, but stalled around the 30. Hopefully, they can keep the ball movement up and start finishing off some drives.
Also, I really can’t stand Urlacher. Dude seems like a huge douche. (an opinion shared by Bears fans I know.)

Re: Urlacher
My stepkids love Urlacher, so I have to point out to them once in a while that he may be a great player and fun to watch, his off the field character and decision making are not to be idolized.
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.

Orlovsky takes the snap and obviously has no idea where he is, as he runs out of the back of the end zone.
