Vikings 12, Lions 10: Sometimes It's Better To Be Lucky
Well, if it's possible to feel bad after a win, that's how I feel right now.
This team in no way, shape, or form deserved to win this game. But, you know what? I'll take it.
Did we get some calls in this one? We sure did. About all we need now is to get every call for the next 15 years, and we'll finally be back to even.
That's all for now. . .possibly back later with some more.

I'll say this..
Adrian Peterson needs to work on his ball-handling this week, or CHI will tear it loose all day next week

coaching
I really think its a matter of poor play selection. Today we got lucky and actually got some calls are way by the refs.

Way to many issues this game.. Kicking the field goal after the touchdown instead of going for 2 was very stupid. Another thing is THIS IS DETROIT! Ferotte is no good chippy little 4 yard passes terrible play calling. An obvious passing situation and lining up with 2 RB’s and 2 WR’s is terrible… Ryan Cook showed hes still bad.. man this game was painful to watch and was very boring.

I missed the game, going to watch it later
But my friends were texting me updates. When they said we scored, I asked, “We went for two right?” No. WTF????

Not Definite
If a 2pt conversion was automatic, everyone would go for it every time.
So if we don’t get the 2, if DET gets a TD, then we’re down by TWO scores in the 4th Qr (17-8). Two many ifs involved. When it’s the 3rd Qr. I have plenty of issues with BC, but this isn’t one of them.

I thought it was late enough to go for it
Just my opinion, but I thought that at that point of time in a game where points are hard to come by, going for two would’ve been the best choice. If it was the first half I would’ve been okay (maybe), but as other’s have pointed out in the fanposts, Clueless seems to be coaching extremely conservatively (scared?).

Childress has a Pass Interference Play?
Man, that’s two weeks in a row, saved by the other team beating themselves.
I can’t believe I had Super Bowl hopes before this season started. The game wasn’t shown out here, I had to watch the Rams pull out a last-second fg to win a game they didn’t overwhelmingly deserve either, living on the show highlights of the Vikings-Lions. Saw Berrian’s run, and for the first time, he was ahead and stayed ahead of pursuit! He actually looked pretty good, have no idea how he snuck that far ahead of the coverage though.
Ah well. At the end of the season, when all is tallied up, a win is a win is a win. Maybe a habit is being built here.

Seriously. Pass interference has saved our ass twice now. That’s not good. I know its a win, but like last week, I really don’t think the offense deserved this one. The Defense played pretty damn well, but the offense…. ugh. One TD? That’s it? Please, we need to get a coach to call some better plays. This is the pros, lets leave the basics behind us and move onto some more advanced playcalling to help us score.

whats wrong with you guys
hey by no means was this the game what i expected, but at the end it out come came the same as if we blew them out anyways, and that is we won. games are not always gonna be pretty especially off a long road win on monday night. after our first drive i could tell we were tired and it would be a long game. it was hard to watch and i almost got sick when detroit scored. but hey we pulled through when we were facing advirsity. you have to think statistically on offense we were good. gus had 296, ap ran for 110, but once again turn overs almost costed us the game. we could have easily been up by 2 more td’s but those little mistakes. there for we were forced to win a game that we should have lost becuse we stepped up. so i will take this win and look forward to chicago and our players getting rested and ready for a full weak not no short shit.

Sad that I'm disappointed we won
I mean it. I was disappointed that we managed to kick the game winning field goal. We almost clinched a loss today, which would’ve almost definitely canned Childress.
Firing our head coach gives me more hope and optimism than does a win we should’ve never had to begin with.

i agree sully. i’ve been a diehard vikings fan for 42 years. but if chilly is still coaching this team next year, i’m through with them. i’ve never been so angry with a team, or, i should say, their coach.it appears, no matter how good a player is (remember martin nance this preseason), if he doesn’t kiss chilly’s butt, he’s out. also, it’s funny how good a.d. was BEFORE he had a full year of chilly’s “teaching”. please!! brad childress couldn’t teach tiddly-winks! if i were zygi wilf, i’d be talking to cowher and/or schottenheimer already!

Video ReCap To the Rescue!
Is it just me, or does it seem like often through the years, even when the Vikings win a game, the highlight reels tend to show the other side more or in a better light than they do the Vikes? Irksome, that.
Anyway, NFL.com has an excellent video recap of the game, much better than the measley highlights I saw while watching another game. It was also really nice to be able to freeze the action and go back and see exactly what happened and who was where, doing what to whom. After watching it, I’m still not impressed by the win, but the one thing that made me feel bad, was cleared up;
The pass interference call on Rice was dead-on. Bodden put out his right-hand on Rice’s left shoulder, just below the pads. Now, I’m not sure how much different it really made, but he DID interfere and it wasn’t just a bad referee call that gave the Vikings that field position. Maybe it wasn’t pretty, but not beating yourself is half the game, as we know all too well, and it’s a Viking win.
Berrian is still a slow dog. Saw his entire run this time, repeatedly, and Berrian did make a good move that caught one Lion flat-footed and the second incomming defender collided with the first. The third was blocked by a Viking, and Berrian ran for the endzone, narrowly avoiding being caught from behind. I liked the move he put out at the beginning of the run, but the Vikes still need to find a speedster WR.
AP needs get better acquainted with the football, but I’m sure he feels pretty bad about those two fumbles – that’s not par for him. I loved seeing Kleinsasser’s catch and run, the man is a rarely used talent that I hope Gus remembers more often.

Sidney Rice was inactive for this game.
The pass interference call was on Bodden’s touching of Allison.

berrian slowed down
Do you think berrian ran full speed to the endzone? It was obvious he slowed down at the 20 yard line.

We got outplayed?
And didn’t deserve this one?? I don’t get that sentiment. Sure, we didn’t play our best ball today, but we didn’t play too bad, and definitely didn’t get outplayed. We outrushed them, outpassed them, and played MUCH better defense than them. We had a number of posessions where the ball was being moved down the field, and two of them were given up by AP fumbles. You take out that LUCKY 50 yard run by Kevin Smith, and the Lions only had 1 decent posession. 1. The whole game. I thought we thouroughly outplayed Detroit today and almost gave the game away. I do not feel we got a lucky victory at all. If Detroit would have won, I would have been saying THEY got a lucky win. Go over more highlights and dig into the stats a bit Gonzo… I think you’ll see we were the better team on the field today.

Vikes!
Last week the Saints kicked our butts statistically, but we pulled a win out of our _. Today we kicked the Lions’ butts statistically, and we managed to pull a win out of our __.
Once again the Vikes play to the level of their opponent. Scary stuff, being a fan of this team.
We did everything we could to try to lose this game. Childress’ patented Prevent Offense almost reared its ugly head again. 1st and goal at the 10, penalty. 1st and goal at the 20, Childress figures its a ‘safe’ distance to not even try to move the ball so we could get a FG, and surprise surprise, it didn’t work.
The team pulled it out despite BC. Next week we need to cut the turnovers and penalties for a chance to beat da Bears. I think we can do it – the passing game didn’t look too bad today!
by JasonAve6413 on Oct 12, 2008 6:02 PM CDT 0 recs
yeah, Adrian
definitely needs to work on holding onto the damn football. Definitely a lucky win, but I wouldn’t be so hard on Chilly as I would be on the players. I felt like Gus had a pretty good game and so did the wideouts. But the o-line was atrocious. Had Adrian held onto the ball those two times, however. I bet we would have scored more points.

Was I Right?
Is my suggestion and article calling for Childress’ firing out of line now?
by mntaxi on Oct 12, 2008 7:20 PM CDT 0 recs
WHY DON'T WE STILL MAKE A STATEMENT...
…and fire Chilly even now with a, yep you guessed it, a 2 game winning streak! Why not make a move that will actually help the team and allow an assistant to coach this highly talented football team. In all actuality, we will keep Childress and get rid of our assistants and they will go on to win Super Bowls as head coaches for other teams!!! We are merely farm systems for other teams. Any thoughts??

.
this was a very boring game to watch to say the least.
the vikings offense this season is just plain horrible, all the yardage stats doesn’t mean shit when they don’t score touchdowns.
but it is good to see that bernard berrian is starting to show his price tag worth, i think next week against the bears would be a good time to try and copy the dolphins direct snap to RB
i saw a few dropped passes this game, receivers really should put in more time practicing catching balls

The Brad Childress motto...A win is a win...
If one more person posts this inane, nonsensical comment I’m going to throw up inside my mouth. You contribute nothing to the discussion, so please stay away from this intelligent site. It’s like posting that the sky is blue.
The coach is responsible for preparing the players to succeed. That involves game planning, player selection, and in-game adjustments. Brad Childress is an absolute ass-clown in ALL of these departments. We will never reach any of the goals we have, as fans, while this fool runs our team. If you are a TRUE Vikings fan, you will understand that Brad Childress is a cancer on our team, and unfortunately the only chemotherapy is to lose this year.

Yeah, I missed this before
Every time I see something like this I have to respond. I hate when people say that you’re not a true fan just because you don’t have the same opinions. I’m as anti-Clueless as most, but I’m not going to say someone else must not be a good fan if they see differently.

P.S. I'll be more than happy...
to eat crow if Chili can prove me wrong. After 3 years of evidence, I think we all know how things will end up this year though…
A last minute “heartbreaking” loss against a crap team on Week 17.

Because we always play down to our opponent.
Whether it’s a really bad team (Lions) or a team playing a really bad game (Saints, Colts), we can never win soundly. We barely pull it out or we lose every time.

This year's Week 17 opponent
Is a little team called the New York Giants.
You may have heard of them. . .won the Super Bowl last year, probably the best team in football. . .
If we do lose in Week 17 this year, it certainly won’t be to a “crap team.”

13 point favorite?
Vegas had the vikes as a 13 point favorite, Detroit has not won atr the dome since I think ‘97? wow this team is hard to watch, if we play like this in Chicago they will kill us, it all starts up front, the O line is terrible right now, McKinney looks slow and fat?, Benard is making things happen, he drew a pass interferance call in the first half, and was some what involved in the offence today, they still need to run more quick slants to him, and by the way when is Rice coming back? I think he is turning out to be a pussy, can’t play hurt? at least Benard is playing through his injury. and oh by the way please fire Childress so we can start courting Cower NOW!! before detroit, or some other god afful teams nsags him, I wound also love to see Shotenheimer come to thew vikes. his teams could always score!
by ztavike on Oct 12, 2008 8:31 PM CDT 0 recs
I think that's a little extreme to call him a pussy for not playing hurt
We have no idea what the extent of his injury is or even if not playing was his decision. Making assumptions that he’s being a pussy is a little extreme.

im pretty sure sidney wants to play, im pretty sure almost all NFL players dont mind playing hurt but team doctors are the ones keeping them out of games
tony romo broke his finger against he cardinals and kept playing, then after the game benched 4 weeks to rehab it.
its not about the player being a pussy, its so they don’t get seriously hurt and end up costing that player the whole season.
