Bears 48, Vikings 41: In a Word, Embarassing
I can't remember offhand what the name of the Vikings' special teams coach is, but he should be fired on the plane trip home.
Hell, if Zygi wanted to fire the entire staff at this point, I don't think I'd be terribly opposed. . .but the special teams today were especially atrocious.
We'll have more on this one later this evening.

I am embarrassed to be a fan of this team right now
I am old and have been a Vikings fan since 1969. I never have waivered, despite so many disappointments. But this is a new low. A team with this much talent should bnever be this inept. Terrible drafting , atrocious coaching and underachieving, lousy playcalling and a litany of excuses. WHAT MORE EVIDENCE does the bungling owner need? FIRE the head coach and at least the team can lose without his humorless ass sitting there on the sideline like a smug moron. If this is all a ploy to sell the frigging team to the highest bidder in another state or in Canada, then good riddance to you all and thanks for nothing in return for my loyalty over all the years.
If I would have had some control over this team for the past 3-4 years, I would have had found a way (and I believe it was very conceivable) to have Jay Cutler as my QB, Marshawn Lynch at RB and a host of other productive players adding to the success of my well-planned team. This current staff has been a disgrace and they should all be exposed for the poor evaluators they are.
Sign me: fed up.

Completely agree. Its hard to watch. We need not only coaches but a GM and staff. Top to bottom.

Lynch at RB?
I think that there is nothing wrong with our current RB tandem, and most teams would be satisfied with AD and CT

Brad
He might be a great guy but he still the man in charge. Every week one portion of his team breaks down and he has to be held accountable. We need a new offensive Q. and a special teams Q. Since Brad has been in charge these have been the weak links. Its time to move on there is to much talent on this team to waste away on poor management.

I've never seen so many upset at a 7 point loss before.....
Then again, I’d be upset if I’ve given up 14 special teams points.

McKinney?
Note to Chilly…. when you leave take McKinney with you… he is terrible, and take the special teams coaches with you also, they lost this game for us today. I think the terrible plan to kick off short killed us , giving the bears a shot field was not a good decision, QB?? now what? we don’t have one. good grief this team gets harder to watch each week. Childress is to much of a control freak!!! we should have gone no huddle, and did the same thing chicago was doing to us… chilly was out coached again!!! beating the dead horse!!! how about trying to run plays quicker when we are down by alot of points,

Tough loss. Gotta say though, we didn’t lose that bad on the road to the Bears. If we can hold home field in the division, we’ll be alright. Tough loss but not season ending

WOW, THAT GAME SHOULD HAVE BEEN A VIKING BLOWOUT IF THEY HAD THE SPECIAL TEAMS OF LAST YEAR!
IM TIRED OF THIS ALL, YEA KLUE DROPPED A PUNT FOR SOME REASON, YEA GORDON IS DUMB, YEA GUS THREW 4 PICKS, THE VIKES STILL LOST TO A TEAM THAT IS NOT AS GOOD AS THEM. I NEED TO KNOW SOMETHING, WHY IS IT THAT TEAMS CAN STOP THE VIKES FROM GETTING TO A QB BUT THE VIKES ARE LOST AGAINST OTHER TEAMS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE GAME IS ON THE LINE? BUT THE SPECIAL TEAMS IS THE WORST IN FOOTBALL, BUT THEY KICKED DEEP TO HESTER TWICE OUNCE STOPPING HIM AND THE OTHER TIME THEY INJRED HIM , AND YES THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE OVERTURNED THAT CALL. BUT WHATEVER, IT CALLED BEING A VIKES FAN,

yeah that was fucking pathetic, seriously, Special teams Coach needs to be fired NOW, if anyone is to blame its the fucking special teams coach and Gus.
Chilly did a much better job play calling but it was still predictable and boring, I feel like while he tries to learn, he cant learn quick enough and that my friends is simply someone who cannot coach a team well.
Special teams, we have to be the worst special teams team in the league. No no make that the world. Are you fucking kidding me? HOWWWWWWWW do we suck SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad on special teams?

From 1st to 3rd
We heard all week, hey we are 3-3 and tied for 1st place, now this week the packers win or loose will be in second place andwe will be in 3rd place, so will Chilly be talking about that? no way, he will blame Kluwe, and or special teams for this loss, we will not get out of 3rd place thie rest of the year, and only the terrible Lions will keep us out of last place, we will win just enough games to miss the playoff, and get a middle of the round picks in the draft, so all the top QB’s will be gone again, andChilly weill be telling us how much T-jack has improved in the off season. #$%&&$%#&&&!!!!!!! here we go again, will this team ever win? I doubt it , not with chilly at the helm.

It's getting bad
Listening to Vikings Fanline was bad. Cory Cove was horrible along with Morris. You got Cove saying that he feels better with this loss than last week, and Morris painting a lipstick on a pig.
Am I missing something? The Vikings were outplayed and outcoached today. The special teams looked disorganized and poorly coached in this contest. The defense was very bad. which is why the Vikings lost this game more than anything. Gus had a rough second half. Da Bears made a mockery of the Vikings. What is there to be positive about? You can be happy with the offense, but the truth of the matter is that this team once again was poorly coached, and it showed in the play. Come to think of it. Has there been any games under the Childress administration where you say to yourself that this team was coached so well and how they were prepared? I don’t think I can come up with one, and that’s been the problem under the Childress era. You can bet on this team to find ways to lose, make mistakes, and play bad week after week, and this is where Childress has to be held accountable.
This loss hurt. I think this team is in trouble. They should beat Houston at home after the bye, but then they play the Packers and then go on a two-week Florida trip.
This is going to get ugly for the Purple.

The latest loss
1.You can cut the deck anway you want and the fact is that Chilly is a loser.
2.You can make excuser or look for bright spots but Chilly does not have the mojo to lead men into battle.
3.Releasing Marcus Robinson on Christmas day for criticising communications displays a temperment better suited to be a TSA gate guard.
4.Diagraming a kick a** offensive scheme is not the same as communicating and motivating an offensive lineman to kick a**.
5.The fish rots at the head.
6.One chokes in the head.
7.Excuses are for losers trying to deflect blame.
8.The Vikings should change the team colors to beige & yellow.

When I listen to Cory on fan line after the game, he reminds me of childress, he is laways making excuses , and talking down to the callers… like we have wrong opinions, be it wrong or not they are still our opinions, and we are entitled to them…

how much you guys are criticizing the special teams coach. Gordon and Kluwe are the only ones to blame as far as special teams goes. I suppose you could also knock childress for not kicking it away to the bears in the beginning. That was stupid. A couple mistakes were what lost this game, not the ST coach. Also, anyone wanna see someone else like aundrae allison return kicks instead of this Hicks guy? He makes no moves, the lanes are there and he just runs into people.

With all due respect
If the ball is going to land inside the 10-yard line on a punt, you get the hell away from it.
You learn that in high school football. The coaches should be preaching that.
Also, on the last punt, Gordon fair caught the ball when he didn’t have anyone within 15 yards of him. I don’t know if that’s something the coaches told him to do or what, but I simply don’t understand that, either.

Do you know what you’re talking about?
He shoud’ve gotten away from the ball when it touched him, he should’ve known this and his coaches should be reinforcing it into them since they were out of pop warner. It isn’t a particularly difficult thing to do.
It isn’t this week. Have you seen any of the special teams plays by the vikings so far this season? All i have to do is go back and show you 1 game to sum up the special teams play. The saints game. End of story. Our ST coach is completely shit, why are you even giving him the benifit of the doubt on this? It isn’t like we are fucking up on 1 big play, we are fucking up on fundamentals and stupid stupid stupid shit which is the coaches job to stop his players from doing yet we continually do the same shit.

I don’t mean to sound rude or whatever, just saying, SOMEONE NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.
Something is wrong with the team and someone needs to fix it. End of story. Perhaps we are all wrong but at some level there is something fundamentally wrong with our team and someone needs to correct it.

I can't believe I'm saying this...
but I can’t blame Chili for today. Our offense moved the ball at will. Our D calls were solid…the players just missed some key tackles. Every facet of our “Special” Teams is a joke though.
Special Teams and the players lost this one for us. Too bad because it’s rare when Chili outcoaches anyone…which he did today. Sad to say..and we still lost.
I’m still OK if Zygi wants to fire him though…

I agree
I think the Vikings lost this one for themselves.
Sad, I know – I’m still not on the Childress bandwagon – but 5 turnovers would kill any team, no matter how great their coaches.
In fact, I’m not even all that sad that the Vikes lost today, because they showed us that they can do some things on offense, and Childress made some gutsier calls (4th downs) today that showed he has some belief in what his offense can do.
It’s too bad that 5 turnovers killed us today, because if they hadn’t occurred – we would’ve put the Bears away pretty easily. The score could’ve been much higher – in the 50’s for us. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

Turnovers... end of story.
If you give up two “instant touchdowns” on special teams, one-man goof ups, and also throw four picks, you rarely win. Techno-conspiracy theorists will tell you that the Bears used a Soviet-developed, remote-controlled ball to target Gordon’s arm. Punter haters will tell you that if any guy wears a football uniform, he should at least study the rules of American football rather than just boning up on those of Guitar Hero. I’m sure if T-Jack had thrown the four picks, his detractors would have informed us of their inherent righteousness. That is all eye of the beholder stuff (a.k.a. crap). The fact is, sometimes you outplay your opponents and you lose; sometimes you get outplayed and you still win. If you can’t stand it, please take up crocheting. This is how American football works. The ball has points on its ends by design, or as the late Billy Preston would have sung for us, “I got a story ain’t got no moral; let the bad guy win every once in a while.”

I have mixed
feelings about this game. on the one side, our offense moved the ball seemingly at will, and scored a sh!t ton of points today. but the O line was horrid, did not block well for Purple Jesus or Gus Gus. The D as a whole, played sporadicaly. While the D line played well, JA had 2 sacks and a forced fumble, And Kevin Williams was a force in hte middle, but our secondary played like crap. Orton passed at will much of the game. And then there is the special teams. Horibble Squib kick to start the game, giving the Bears O short field and an easy path to their first TD. Fumbled punt leading to 1 touchdown. Fumbled Return leading to another touchdown. While both had the flavor of fluckish, at least our coverage was fairly solid.

Let's get real...
Let me start by saying, I hate that Brad Childress is the coach of the Minnesota Vikings. I went to my first Vikes game at the old Met in 1978, have been a fan ever since, and hate to see my favorite team in shambles.
I’ve been through Love Boat, Les Steckel, and Randy Moss’ annual embarrassing (yet hilarious) arrests. I’ve been through Denny’s Take a Knee, what’s-his-name from the Cardinals knocking us out of the playoffs, and 41-donut. At none of those points have I ever felt as hopeless as I do these days under the stewardship of Brad Childress.
That’s what is going to make this next statement so shocking, so unexpected, so…I don’t know…utterly meaningles since it will never lead to anything.
Brad Childress coached his ass off today.
Let’s take a moment to let that sink in…
Brad Childress made all the right calls today. I know when we get it in our heads that we don’t like someone, we want to attribute everything bad that happens in a game to that person. And Chili has earned that – his predictable play-calling, his inability to make adjustments, and his inexplicable love of punting when he’s trailing with no chance to get the ball back.
But today, he got it right. Our Offense moved the ball at will, he instructed his kickers to stay away from Hester, and the Defense was as stout as ever. Don’t believe me? Consider this:
The Bears scored 3 TD’s on fumble recoveries.
The Bears scored 1 TD on 6 yard drive from a Gus INT.
The Bears scored 1 TD on a simple slant pass to Marty Booker that turned into a 51 yard TD pass due to horrible execution in our secondary.
Ryan Longwell is a horrible pooch kicker
and
Chris Kluwe was pissing himself so bad about getting the ball out of bounds that he forgot to catch the ball.
That’s at least 35 of their 48 points that can be written off to crappy execution folks…not coaching! Before you go to the “Childress is responsible for having the players prepared” card, I want to say this: Childress can only make the call and hope the players execute. It didn’t happen today. At least today, for the first time, I saw a coach that made the right calls.
Oh, and by the way, I still hope Zygi fires his boring, humorless, mustacchioed ass!!!

Chili still had some bad calls
I think if Chili needs a scape goat to divert attention from his poor coaching decisions, he should fire the special teams coach. You are right, they [especially the coverage units] have been horrible. They directly cost the Vikes 14 points and indirectly a lot more with bad squib kicks starting the Bears near the 50 yard line. Pathetic!
Who do you set down the law about the squib kicks and Kluwe’s orders to kick the ball out of bounds? It was Childress.
It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a Viking to raze a village.

I completely understand what your saying...
The ultimate responsibility is with Chili to coach the guys up, and have them execute his (usually non-existent) vision. The only point I was trying to make about today was that we actually seemed to have an offensive plan, and it worked. To me, that was news…

PS...
As a Chicago resident, I was at today’s game. Despite the result, we had a great time. The weather was outstanding, and we only encountered 2 drunken rubes that felt the need to yell “Vikings F-ing suck” in our face, which is a huge improvement from last year.
At least 6 people questioned my sexuality last year for the #78 Matt Birk jersey. Since they were all wearing Urlacher or Hester jerseys I tried to point out the hypocrisy of their postions, but they didn’t seem to grasp the depth of my argument.
By the way, big props to Bears fan Rich and his wife in section 254, row 11. We talked all day and they couldn’t have been more pleasant.

Shambles is as shambles does...
…or whatever it was Forrest Gump said. As the good Muslim says, there are none perfect save Allah. I humbly must confess I’ve never seen a team that was in a “shambles” score five NFL offensive touchdowns in a game before. (Maybe I simply don’t visit enough shambles.) I have listened to coach Paul Ferraro at several special teams practices these past three years, and I’ve never once heard him say either “please take your eye off the football” or “don’t concern yourself with where the football is when you are near the goal line.” No, to the contrary, he actually tends to loudly say very worthwhile things, which (if executed) would result in more victories. One team or another usually loses every football game that is played, and if the long snap somehow rebounds from your fingers and you try to recover with a soccer pass to your opponent, and later that same day the same oddly shaped ball sneaks up on your return guy’s flailing arm in order to head itself toward the end zone, that losing team for this week is very likely to be yours, even if your RB posts a hundred and a half and your QB throws for nearly double that. For those who strive to see the glass as over 42 percent full: the Vikings will be unable to rest on their laurels over the bye week, since they don’t give out laurels after games like this.

Chili called a decent game today...fire him anyway!!
Any coach that thinks Gus is an answer at QB needs to be sent packing. Gus is a courageous guy but he has had 15 years to prove that he is to slow and inconsistent to be the main guy. Today was really just business as usual in Gus’s career.
Can you imagine what the rabid fans would be saying if Tjac had just thrown 4 interceptions. It would be very ugly.
Tjac is more mobile and unfortunately equally inconsistent and inaccurate. I think that we need to go back to Tjac. If Shanco would have held on to those 2 touchdowns We would have won at least one of the first two games and Chili would not of cracked and Tjak would still be starting. I am still not convinced that Tjak is no good. But I know that Gus will never be good enough to start and at 37 he has no future. At this point it is do or die with Tjack.
Chili is no good. Get rid of him!!!!!!!

You do realize that...
Gus Frerotte has thrown for about 34 fewer yards than Favre this year, while throwing fewer INTs?
And his yards-per-game avg is 257 – 7th in the NFL?
I think firing him is a horrible idea – who would replace him? Booty, TJack, or some free agent that isn’t worth anything.
