HC: Bud Grant (though I did like both Denny Green and Tice)
QB: Gotta go with Fran, followed by Daunte
RB: Robert Smith (but will soon change to AP after a few more years)
WR: Cris Carter
DP: John Randle, Kevin Williams is a close second
You know, an all viking team could or would clobber any other teams all team! we have, or have had stud players at nearly every position, HoF’ers or people who would be in the Hall if they played for other teams, or we had one at least one of our four trips.
Will the Real Thor Please Stand Up ... ?
Good post!
My favorite Vikings at these positions:
QB – Daunte Culpepper (I missed the Tarkenton era). . .Culpepper might be my all-time favorite Viking, so he’ll probably have this spot for a while.
RB – I’ve got a lot of respect for Terry Allen doing what he did on two reconstructed knees, but I think AP pretty much has this one locked up.
WR – Anthony Carter. . .loved the guy when he played for Oakland in the USFL (he and Bobby Hebert were a great combo), and was ecstatic when he came to Minnesota.
Also, I know he’s not a WR, but I need to give a mention to Steve Jordan, one of my favorite Vikings ever.
Defensive player – Joey Browner. . .anyone remember when he almost broke Gerald Wilhite in half?
Coach – Denny Green. . .though I do have a soft spot for Tice. Bud Grant was only the coach for one year of my Viking fandom, and it was the year after Les Steckel damn near killed the franchise.

Browner was awesome
I still remember pointing out real fans to my ex girlfriend that were wearing number 47.

QB – Daunte Culpepper….No, he didn’t take us to a Championship but he was the best qb we had in many years. Now we are stuck with ‘average’ qb’s again. I hope we can draft someone like Colt McCoy from Texas.
RB – Chuck Foreman…His spin move in the open field was fun to watch.
WR- Randy Moss….No one has ever electrified a passing attack like he did.
Defensive player – Matt Blair….he was a great LB and was always a threat to block kicks.
Coach – Bud Grant….It would be nice to see some class and respect that he brought to the team again, such as having the players line up with helmets at their sides during the national anthem. I think the players had great respect for him and it made them play harder.
It seems I've got alot in common with the rest...
Randall Cunningham. I always loved him when he played for Philly, and was ecstatic to see him drive us to 15-1 so late in his career. Now, I was a huge Culpepper fan as well, but the way he left Minnesota left a bad taste in my mouth.
RB
Onterrio Smith and his Whizzinator…Just Kidding. As said before, I think this one’s pretty much a given. #28.
WR
I agree with Gonzo on this one. Anthony Carter was the go to receiver back in the late 80’s / early 90’s. I loved the way this guy played, hands like glue. I kinda think they phased him out a bit once the other Carter came to Minny. I was really upset to see AC finish his career with Detroit. Ugh, wouldn’t you rather just retire and call it a career than to put yourself through that misery?
Defense
The greatest Viking ever IMO. John " Batshit Crazy" Randle. Easily my favorite player. This guy was a lock to lead the team in sacks each year and the combo of him and Henry Thomas was nearly as good as the Williams boys are today. He not only was a dominant player at the position, but probably the funniest as well. It was good seeing him talking more smack again on SpikeTV’s Pros vs. Joes last year, that brought back some great memories. Here’s hoping he gets his call to Canton next year, he truly deserves the honor.
HC
I gotta go with Denny Green. I’m only pushing 30, so I’m sure Bud Grant was more of a mastermind at the position than Green, the record clearly proves that. I just wasn’t around to see any of it. But seeing that Green had us in the playoffs nearly every year (Not to mention a couple Division Championships) and how each coach after him seems to be taking the team down a notch, I think its time we consider bringing him back.
Obscure near-favorites
Since all of my normal answers have been listed above…
QB: Rich Gannon. Each of my 2 favorite teams passed on this future MVP.
RB: D. J. Dozier Barry Word had the single-game record for the Chiefs and Vikings before Adrian came along.
WR: Chris Walsh could really put a hit on a guy, and I remember Hassan Jones being hailed as the guy with the best hands on the team (when Steve Jordan and Anthony Carter were playing — quite a compliment).
DEF: Chris Doleman, Keith Millard, and Jack Del Rio used to be my favorite Viking defenders to control in certain video games. Jayice Pearson played for both the Chiefs and Vikings.
HC: I think the only other coach not mentioned is Jerry Burns (since Chilly is obviously nobody’s favorite). I always liked Floyd Peters and Tony Dungy for their defensive prowess, and I wonder if Peters could have been a great head coach given the opportunity. (Real answer: Denny Green.)
Since i'm bored...
Here are my close seconds!
QB – Randall Cunningham
RB – Chuck Foreman
WR – Randy Moss
DEF – Winfield
HC – Bud grant
As far as stats i wasn’t alive when Grant took us to the SB’s but i’d give anything to see archive footage of him.
Also I would’ve like to see Foreman run the ball back in the day.
Stone Picks
I am a little new to the Vikes compared to some here, and a little old compared to others. But here are my picks for all time
QB – Brad Johnson, I used to own a Tommy Kramer Jersey but nothing made my heart sing more than BJ taking over for Moon the human delayed game penalty
RB – Leroy Hoard, If you need 1 . . . he will get you 3. If you need 5, he will get you 3. Amazing power back that was about the most constistantly medicore back ever . . . which was a good thing.
WR – Cris Carter, Randy be damned . . . I cried when he signed with the Rams. He is a true Viking through and through, AC and CC double tandem in the early 90’s was awesome.
Def – Keith Millard, roid raging great times with Doleman. Best defense of the early 90’s anchored by a one two combo.
HC – Denny Green, 1998 is all I have to say. We did not make the Super Bowl, and definetly should have, but what a year to watch . . . all the result of drafting a troubled kid out of WV that had something to prove. Brilliant.

Special Teams
Chis Walsh . . . seriosly, not many player get nike to put thier number on a jersey for mass production, let alone special teams players . . . I own a Chris Walsh jersey and have never felt more pride. I wear it to every game I attend.

I'm old
I gotta go with:
QB- Daunte… when he was hitting it he was the most fun to watch, as he could run through many tacklers… I liked Joe Kapp on the field but he goes down as a freakin big baby.
RB-AP is sensational. But man I liked Robert Smith. Chuck Foreman held the Vikings together for years, and when you wanted someone to run through people like a Mack Truck you called Bill Brown.
WR-Randy Moss, the Grasshoppa, and Chris Carter, Oh Wise One
DP-Alan Page and the rest of the original Purple People Eaters. But John Randle and Chris Doleman from the line and Scott Studwell from the middle were most impressive.
HC-Bud Grant. Class, excellence, and purpose. No whiners allowed. Nuff said.

Young One
I’m only 20 yrs old, so my knowledge is about from ’98 to present so:
QB – Daunte… there were a few times when I really didn’t like him during the seasons, but damn what I would do to have him and his prime back right now, just imagine where this team would be if he knew how to slide…
HB – I gotta go with Adrian, fell in love after the Bears game last year, and I was at the Chargers game last year, and the man crush as been at an all time high ever since
WR – Randy, simply amazing, and if he never would’ve wasted his life in Oakland, he could be seriously close to Rice’s numbers
DP – Chris Hovan, can’t really tell you exactly why, but I always loved him, but he’s followed really close by Randle
HC – Dennis Green, 1998, better than anything since
