Love That NFL Consistency

Kevin and Pat Williams are looking at four-game suspensions for doing nothing more than attempting to keep their weight under control.

On the other hand, this fat, drug-running bastard doesn't have a care in the world.

Gotta love a league where trying to keep your weight down is a bigger crime than felony drug possession.

Ah, well. . .I'm sure that with the precedent that's been set, what with Bryant McKinnie getting a four-game suspension before he even goes to court and what the Williams brothers and others are going through now, it will be just a matter of time before Roger Goodell gets around to this one.  And by "just a matter of time," what I really mean is "right after the season gets over."

I know I keep overusing this Public Enemy reference, but. . .well, I can't think of a better way to finish that sentence, so. . .

Get up, get get, get down. . .Roger Goodell is a joke in your town.

New NFL Rule for 2009

If Righteous Roger continues his crusade, water will become a banned substance for 2009, on the grounds it might encourage players to take these water pills. All players will either die or be suspended for the entire season, and there will be no NFL games played or any income for the NFL, thus ending Roger’s tenure as commish. The owners will place him next to Hoffa in the new New York stadium being built. Always look on the bright side of life.

Yeah, the rules are getting to be a joke. Fined for TD celebrations? I can see that if any property is damaged but just dancing in the endzone or playing on the other teams’ band’s drums is maybe a bit far. And if what you said about the lack of information on bottle being true, then I highly doubt you can fault the people who accidently used it. But, of course, its all black and white to the commish.

Hey, we’ll be getting a high draft pick at least, right?

What About Matt Jones?

Per Viking Update, Matt Jones is appealing his 3 game suspension. He was caught chopping up cocaine with a credit card by the police!

Getting caught with any kind of illicit street drug, whether it be codeine, cocaine, etc. should carry a lifetime ban from the NFL. No appeals, no nothing. DONE!

The NFL had started to become a joke under Tagliabue. They are becoming an even bigger joke under Goodell. Are they trying to follow the MLB’s lead?

Just one point

the league maintains a list of approved supplements. ones that the league has tested and confirmed not to contain any banned substances. all the players are provided with the list of league approved supplements, and are warned that supplements not on the list may contain banned substances, even if they are not listed on the label. So it is a situation of buyer be ware. having said that, I do think they were taking the suppliment for its intended purpose, but this is an example of why these supplements need to be regulated, they are amongst the only things we can buy over the counter for consumption that are not required to list their ingredients on the label.

I hope that Goodell takes some mercy on us, just like he took mercy on the packers by allowing them to violate the league rules concerning the reinstatement of unretireing players. I feel that fines without suspension should be more then enough of a lesson to the players concerned this time.

More To The Story...

This is from a friend of mine:

“From what I heard from Michael Smith on one of ESPN’s NFL shows today, there is some sort of hotline set up by the league that players can call when questioning the use of these supplements. From Smith’s report, several of the players mentioned in the initial Fox report had contacted this hotline, and were advised that the use of the diuretic in question was OK, as it did not appear on a blacklist.”

If this is true, were the Williams duo some of the people who contacted the hotline?

I’m hoping so, and then this whole thing can be swept under the rug and we don’t need to worry about losing half our defensive line :X

WoW

if that is true then, then none of the players in question should get suspended. I hope that report is true. As I’ve said before, I fully believe the Williams’ took the suppliment for its intended purpose, and not to hide anything. So I really don’t want them to get suspended.

WRONG

I don’t understand how so many of my fellow fans are wrong on this one. It is the players responsibility to know EXACTLY what EVERYTHING they put into their bodies are. This has been very clear. And there is a very understandble reason for this rule. To ensure that players don’t try to cover up illegal substances. There can be no lieniency, because then the next guy finds a diuretic not on the black list, takes his steriods, masks them on purpose with the diuretic, and if he gets caught then claims “well it isn’t on the list” … the league shouldn’t allow that, and should come down hard on all involved in this latest affair. Make the point loud and clear.

If, as stated above by someone, there was a hotline involved, then it will get resolved in appeals. If the williams’ were honestly only using it for weight loss, then that is still their f*ck up. Period. They should be punished the same as if they tested positive for any other illegal substance.

ugh..

If the league is going to have a “blacklist” then it is their responsibility to keep the list updated, and know exactly what should be on the list.

WRONG

“I want to take a weight loss supplement, but I don’t know if I can take this one or not… the league is getting so strict.”

“Call that hotline number they gave us..”

“Good idea! Hotline, can I take product A? It’s not on the list, so I can? Great!”

This is a very lame depiction of how that would have went according to your post “footballninja” and you are saying that even if this was the case, it is their “f*ck up” and they deserve to be punished the same as someone who snorts coke??? I hope I’m misunderstanding you… If I am not, you are dillusional, my friend.

Ok

Maybe I should have seperated two of those sentences. I was saying, IF there was a hotline setup by the NFL for the specific purpose of players being able to question specific supplements (like someone suggested above) AND they got approval to take this supplement only then to have it show up as an illegal substance, THEN, it is a different story and THEN it should be taken care of through the appeals process and I don’t believe they should be suspended.

But….

If there was no hotline situation, and they simply took this “weight loss” supplement that shows up as an illegal substance, then they should be punished, YES, just like someone who “snorts coke”, because there is NO way now to know that they weren’t out snorting coke, cuz they could be hiding it.

And no, I am not delusional. Once again, this just comes down to personal responsibility and accountability. If you are getting paid millions and millions of dollars to play a game and there are certain very strict rules laid out before you involving knowing everything you put in your body…well then you should probably either stick to the league approved supplements or you should be damn sure that what you are taking is ok, that is your responsibility. Why does that not make sense?

Goodell

This guy is screwing up a good thing. With the pointless fines & suspensions for players before legal action has been taken against them, you would think he would suspend guys like Jolly and Matt Jones. Unbelievable. If all these guys are suspended for taking the banned substance, then Jolly/Jones have to be suspended, otherwise Goodell is a bigger joke than I already think he is.
