Hit Me: Questions About The Houston Texans?
Howdy, fans of the Purple. My name's Tim, and I'm one of the writers over at SB Nation's website for all things Houston Texan, Battle Red Blog. In light of the upcoming contest between our two squads, I figured I'd head this way to field any questions you might have about this week's opponent.
Curious as to how the Texans plan to stop Adrian Peterson? I'll opine between sobs. Want to know whether Andre Johnson is the result of a virgin birth? I'll preach. Simply feel like commiserating about the epidemic of water pills in the NFL with a comrade who's facing the same challenge (albeit to a much less valuable player)? I'll hold you.
So hit me, Vikings fans. I'm here to spew rhetoric and the occasional bit of knowledge. Best of luck on Sunday, and here's to a clean game that doesn't feature anyone getting hurt.

How many sacks do you think Manningham is going to have against us while facing up against Bryant McKinnie?
Re: Super Mario
It’s tough to say, as Mario’s sacks tend to come in bunches. With the exception of last week’s one-sack effort, Super Mario seems to be either good for two (2) sacks in a game or none this season. I’m nothing if not a pie-eyed optimist, so I’ll guess he gets two (though B. McKinnie is no slouch and could easily shut him out).
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Thanks for spreading the stereotypes Tim.

HAHAHA!!! I like this guy already.
We all know that Mario Williams is a beast. Forrr sho’. How does the rest of the Texans D-Line stack up?? Have they been playing well this year also, or is it just Williams that produces?
How do you see Owen Daniels faring against an injury-plagued Minnesota LB corps?
How has the Texans pass defense been this year?? Do you see Frerotte being able to keep the defense honest?

1. With the exception of Super Mario, the Houston DL has been pretty pathetic (with the occasional exception) at pressuring the QB. They’ve been mediocre against the run, too. Biggest reason for this, I think, is the coaching staff’s bizarre insistence on continuing to start The Corpse Formerly Known As Anthony Weaver at DE and Travis Johnson at one of the DT spots. Neither should be starting, and it shows.
2. Love OD against any team, and definitely against a team that doesn’t have a full corps of skilled LBs to stop him. I look for a big game from him on Sunday.
3. Simple rule here…the phrase “Texans pass defense” is by and large an oxymoron. Our "starting " CBs (Petey Faggins and Jacques Reeves) inspire alternate feelings of sorrow and rage in the Houston fan base.

One more...
In your opinion, should the Texans have taken a 2nd rounder from Minnesota this past year for Sage Rosenfels, or is he that valuable of a backup?

Re: Sage
The Texans definitely would’ve taken a second-rounder for Sage; my understanding is that MIN never offered more than a third, and the Texans decided that Sage was worth more as a backup to Schaub than a third-rounder would’ve been.
Of course, that was before the Rosencopter.

yeah
you’re right. I got that mixed up. I was thinking that Minny offered the 2nd, but Texans declined. Other way around. After watching Indy steal a game from us in Minnesota, I was pulling hard for Houston in that game. I felt your pain that day.

Question For You Guys
Do you wish MIN had offered the second-rounder and that Sage Rosenfels was your QB today?

You know, that’s a good question. Looking back on it. . . no. At the time I was upset. But I’m glad we drafted Johnson with that pick. He’s looked decent in his time starting and Sharper certainly isn’t getting any older. There’s a few decently young QBs hitting the FA market this coming offseason, so I’m sure we’ll scoop one up who can play better than our current starters.
i think we shouldve traded for sage
the red sox had a 9 game elimination win streak, but matt garza was too busy rocking out to tupac to notice
Funny you should say that...
My recap of the Colts game was titled “Feeling Minesota” … based largely on the similarity of both Colts comebacks.

I would have been cool with a 3rd rounder for Sage, but not the 2nd. That would have made the Jared Alen trade less likely, however, and although he hasn’t performed as well as we all hoped he would this year, I’m still very happy we have him. I’m not too sure that Sage would have performed any better than Gus has so far though. Rosenfels has looked good at time in his career, but has also looked quite lost at other times.

Do you really?
Have a CB with the last name of Faggins? I really don’t need to say anything about that at all.

hey tim… so this is more of a fantasy question than anything but i have matt schaub on my fantasy team and i was wanderin how you think he will fare aginst us this sunday. i would hate to start the opposing teams qb against us but he might be my best option.
AP's record day, 296 in a single game.
If you are a real Vikings fan...
You will start Schaub and hope he has a terrific, 517-yard, six touchdown day.
That way good ’ol Chilly Dog can go find someone to tell him how to spell “unemployment.”

Re: Schaub
If I’m reading this correctly, MIN is ranked 20th in the NFL against the pass. The Texans, meanwhile, are currently ranked 5th in the league in passing offense. Based on that alone, I’d start The Schaub.
From a Houston fan’s standpoint, I can also tell you that the offensive game plan the last few weeks has begun with Schaub throwing early and often, usually to Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels. Over the last two weeks, Schaub has thrown nine (9!) incompletions, along with 5 TDs and O INT; three weeks ago, he looked bad against MIA, but he threw for 300+ yards, 3 TD, and O INT at JAC the week before that. Admittedly, those numbers didn’t come against great defenses, but still…I’d start him on Sunday and feel very good about it.

schaub is going to have a field day against the vikings
im a vikings and a texans fans so this game is going to be hard to watch for me, ill take the texans 31-14 over the vikings with how well the texans have been playing
the red sox had a 9 game elimination win streak, but matt garza was too busy rocking out to tupac to notice
Only 14? Come on now, we just put up 41 points against a decent Bears defense. The pieces are starting to come together. Besides, if they score 31 points we’re going to have the ball alot also. Then again, Gus might just throw 4 picks again.
Watch and see how many screen passes they play against us to negate our pass rush. I bet it’ll be a ton.
I beg to differ...
Gus will have a fantastic day against the Texans and The Vikings will pull out a victory. 14 points is way too less for us. Frost is right, we did that with better teams this year.
stereotypes
And all Minnesotan’s don’t sound like the people in the movie Fargo or dare I say Sara Palin (I’m not being political Gonzo nor am I endorsing any candidate).
Yah sure, you betcha we’ll beat dem dare Texans.
Then again it’s not exactly the clash of the Titans. Fun hearing from ya Tim. See ya Sunday.
Thanks, CFV
Best of luck on Sunday.

Is the roof fixed yet?
It doesn’t relate to Sunday’s game, but I was wondering if the roof and other damage around the Houston area has been fixed? Our prayers were with you all during the hurricane.
We may have heart felt concerns about you then, but Sunday, not a chance. Matt Schaub will get an up close very personal look at the Williams Wall, Jared Allen and Ray Edwards. There will be no time for the receivers to get deep. I’m predicting a dominating win by the Vikes, but of course, I’m biased.
It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a Viking to raze a village.
Enjoyed Tim's Visit
It was refreshing to have a civalized talk with a fan from another team. Unlike what we have gotten from the land of cheese.
Keep bringing fun rivals on the site and good luck to the Texans. Except this Sunday

Best of luck to you guys on Sunday. If you could hold J. Allen and Peterson out for us, I’ll buy you a beer.
