Leaders of men

Fast forward to 2009 season.  Brad Childress's office is now empty.  He's just had his last rounds with the owner and is given the long deserved 'Pink Slip'.  From the ashes of the past three seasons come a new leader.  You!  Yes you the one demanding and pleading for a better season.  Your now the new Head Coach.

So where do you start?  Gus obviously is not the long term answer.  So then, who is?  And who would you give the opportunity to over come such odds in the National football league?

Brad is history, now our future depends on some wise decisions and a  new coaching staff.  Who comes and who do you let go?

Here are some obvious problems that you need to deal with.  Make you decisions wisely, you only have a one year contract.

Our QB situation.  Fix it!

Special teams have been lacking.  Where do we weed out the problems?

Do we go for another reciever?

Do you want to stabilize an offense with J.D. Booty?

Is our Offense line up to par?

How about defense, secondary?

Will you bring in your own coaching staff?

How do you punish players with off the field conduct?  Even if they are your very best.

Me as a head choach… o goodness we would go 0-16, next question

AP's record day, 296 in a single game.

I’m pretty sure if any of us were the HC, they’d be 0-16 lol.

Anyways, I think the first thing to do would either be A) Fix up the O-line a bit. The QBs need time to make decent reads/throws, or B) Get that Go-to-guy WR. . . Since Chad OchoCinco would be a FA in the ‘09 season, BAM! I’d snatch his ass up quick. Let Wade go, or maybe try and trade him off to someplace that needs WRs.

Julius Peppers is hitting FA also, so it’d be tempting to go for him to make our D-line even better. He would, of course, need to switch over to left end.

And off the field conduct, eh. As long as they aren’t getting suspended I couldn’t care. If I was HC it’d be all about winning.

Here we go

All right
QB-i would give tjack a second or third chance whatever this would be, then i would resighn gus or another vet that can tutor our young qbs. if the pack would be willing to trade i would go after brohm, but if not qb would the first thing i address in this years draft.
Special Teams- i don’t know much about special teams but i know that our P and K aren’t the problem, may be bringing in people that can get down the field and wrap up when tackling
WR-all right i like the way Berrian’s look the last few weeks and i would like to see how Rice develops over the season if he would play, if neither put up good numbers i would for sure look for the go to guy that wouldn’t be a team distraction and would help one of our young qbs along
O Line-though underperforming at times i believe with a little more time together and some decent coaching they could be one of the best. I would for sure resign Matt Birk he’sthe anchor to the line and bringing in a new center now could be disastrous
Defense-line and lbs are solid, no change there except for maybe depth, secondary i want to see williams perform and i like the rook johnson if sharper retires and winfield is solid but getting old, griffin on the other hand should be moved to safety but we’re set at that position so shop him around and give mccauley a shot he looked good last year so why hasnt he played this year (clueless), and then also look for depth through FA and the Draft in case someone goes down or doesn’t work out
Staff-Bevell will for sure get the boot and i may replace him with schottenheimer, linehan, or kiffin. Keep frazier if he doesn’t get another hc job elsewhere and if he does i dont know what id do maybe billick. i really dont know enough about the other coaches so this is the bigges ? for me
Punishment-if they aren’t suspended or disrupting the team with what they do off the field they’ll play because i’ll need all the talent i can get

Probably still go 0-16, but....

QB situation: Matt Casell and JP Losman are both UFA this off-season and I would make a run at them (in that order). If neither can be coaxed, then try again to trade for Rosenfels. Don’t think the Vikings have a chance at one of the top 3 QBs that could come out and any later round QB wouldn’t improve the current roster situation (because none of them could start right away). Next year though (assuming the picks from this year workout), Vikings could package picks to pick best QB (Didn’t Colt McCoy say he was going to stay for his senior year?) because most other holes would be filled through this draft FA.

New Special Teams Coach/Offensive Coordinator – Frazier would still run the D, but I would look at bringing in a offensive coordinator that A)is flexible and creative with the game plan and B)can change the scheme to match the players, not vise-versa.

Get a WR in the draft: No need to use an early pick, but I would be looking for a tall, red zone threat WR. Personal favorite: Rames Barden out of Cal Poly SLO. He is 6’6’’ and is avg. over 100yrds a game at that lower level. Could be had in the 4th round this year.

The rest would be taken care of with these draft picks:
1st – Malcolm Jenkins CB, OSU
2nd – Chase Coffman TE, Mizzou
3rd – Dallas Renyolds, OT BYU
4th – Rames Barden, WR Cal Poly-SLO
5th – Ron Brace, DT Boston College
7th – BPA
7th – BPA
