why daunte, why?
John clayton reports, that the Detroit Lions and Daunte Culpepper have agreed to a 2 year deal. Although culpepper retired earlier this season, i guess if the right team came along, he would sign with them.. unfortunately for him and he's probably the first person to ever say this, but the lions were the right team.. what's everyone's opinion on this?

Just because they got Culpepper dosn’t mean they are going to be a contender. Remember, there D is a big problem.
but remember, we beat them by the hair on brad childress’ chinny chin-chin, and all they need is some culpepper motivation.
What up?

I think it's going to be like last year (and I said this before the first game)
Close first game, blowout second game (in favor of us obviously).
In AP I trust

This is not a move for the now
They signed Culpepper to a two year contract; this year he will be learning the offense mostly. Next year will determine whether or not the Lions front office thinks that he will be able to give them the answer they need at quarterback until a younger prospect can take the reigns.
It’s not a terrible move; honestly, what do they have to lose? They’re already winless with only two viable QBs on the roster, and even that’s a stretch. Culpepper won’t be a factor this year, though it will be interesting to see if he starts this week or next. How desperate are the Lions? I’m guessing very.
It is an upgrade but...
They’ve got for more problems all over the field. Culpepper can throw for 400 yrds but if their D can’t handle the opposing offenses their out of luck.
Return of the Daunte
With all his issues, I hate to say this, but the Lions are probably his last chance in the NFL, no one else is desperate enough to take a chance on him. Even the Vikes, as needy as they are for a good QB, won’t consider him.
I just hate seeing an athlete as good as Daunte was, literally on his last legs, begging scraps at the bottom of the barrel. I hope he has what it takes again and can stay healthy, get his career turned around.
Daunte the Person
Is really a decent guy.. My friend was his former HS coach and Daunte was always there to help out our new team with uniforms, equipment.and showing up for fundraisers. He gave back to his home town by raising $ with other NFLers to buy computers for a school in a community of underprivilaged. Then they all came and taught the kids basic computer skills. Daunte was victimized by what I believe was poor advice. If he had just stayed the course, rehabbed under Viking supervision and worked with the new staff, I honestly believe he would have healed properly. Then his agents, under the shadow of a knee injury, want to renegotiate an already lucritive contract and tell him ho the Vikings are being “mean” to him. When al hell breaks loose and he fires his agent, it is too late.
It is too bad he could not have tried out with the Vikes, acknowledge the mistakes and even as a backup, leave the organization he started with in dignity.
I really hope Daunte does OK. Not beat the Vikes but maybe help Detroit get a new start which would be about the best he could hope for in finishing his career.
He gave us some fun moments. Don’t let things on the surface fool you. Daunte got shafted by his agents. He is a good guy that deserved better advice.
