Charles Gordon to Miss Remainder of Season
Not a surprise to anybody that saw it happen, but Vikings' CB Charles Gordon will miss the remainder of the 2008 season after having his ankle turned to mush on a punt return during the first half of Minnesota's 28-27 victory over the Packers.
There's a link to an animated .gif of the injury in the comments of the game thread below. It's not a full Theismann or anything, but it's still pretty nasty to watch. Gordon's foot basically did a 180. I'd be surprised if any of the ligaments in his ankle made it out intact. Gordon was seen at the post-game press conference wearing hospital scrubs with his ankle in a cast.
The injury to Gordon likely means that Benny Sapp will assume the full-time nickel responsibilities, and Marcus McCauley might actually be able to get onto the active roster every once in a while.
Between the injury to Gordon and WR Robert Ferguson apparently asking for his release, it will be interesting to see what happens to the Vikings' roster over the course of the next couple of days.
Oh, and if anybody missed it yesterday, the Vikings beat the Packers 28-27 on Sunday afternoon. I wasn't sure whether or not everybody knew, so I thought I'd say it again.

Wait, Ferguson wants a release? Why? Because he hasn’t been playing or something?

It was on Access Vikings yesterday

This is the second consectuive game Ferguson has been inactive. Judd reported on Friday that Ferguson has asked the team for his release. We’ll see how his situation develops over the next few days.
I’m guessing it has to do with lack of playing time, yes.

Get rid of Fergy if he wants out.
I’d rather cultivate a younger guy who might actually contribute something some day. Fergy isn’t that guy.

Trade Ferguson
Understandable that he wants more playing time, unfortunate for him that too many other WRs on the team are playing at a higher level than he is.
But ‘release’ him? Trade, sure. The Vikes shouldn’t keep a guy who doesn’t want to be there, if for no other reason then because you wouldn’t want him playing ‘down’ (flashback to Moss in Oakland) because he’s dissatisfied. I think they should get something for their investment in him, though. Especially since he wants to run away at mid-season.
My mind slips back to a really promising young man named Nance, who was snatched away by Pittsburgh. Would have liked to see him stay with the Vikes, and Ferguson let go instead, back then.

I Dont think we will get anything for Ferguson
Journeyman Wide Reciever/Special Teams guy near the end of his career. Let him go unless he can help us with Gordan’s Injury.
God that was a Brutal injury, I threw up when they showed the replay. Yikes.

Whoa, whoa. The Steelers took Martin Nance? Are you serious? Childress, wtf. First Thigpen, now Nance.
We still have Reynaud though, right? He was pretty good too, I thought.

Hey wait a Min...
Now that i think about it Nance was not the only player with young potential. I also think back to a player from preseason who played with us and is now a practice squad player for Tampa Bay our next opponent, Brandon Sumrall…Name sound familiar? it should he looked like a starting Corner Back when he had his chances…If am not mistaken the kid had like 3 picks and when i watched him he was like a blanket on recievers and a great tackler.Makes me wonder why he couldn’t have made the practice squad
