QB or not QB

The Viking's season has been like riding a roller coaster and the QB position has been one of the main reasons. It's always easy to call for the backup qb after the starter throws 3 pics. The grass is greener with the backup until he comes in the game and goes 3 and out.

I certainly won't defend Gus and his int percentage this year, but should we be so harsh and critical when our other options are young and inexperienced? We have seen the TJ show last year and the first two games of this season. Did you cringe like me when TJ dropped back in the pocket....? Gus isn't Tom Brady or whoever else we wish he would become overnight, but he has seen a lot of action in his career and right now he probably is the best option.

As a Viking fan living in Arizona I have watched the local team here for many years and have seen how a qb that everyone thought was washed up and done is thriving due to having a good OL and great recievers. Kurt Warner is having a MVP season but the recievers have caught many of his passes that weren't thrown on target. I have to believe that if the Vikings had a stronger bunch of recievers, Gus wouldn't be the goat that some make him out to be. So maybe before we all want to send Gus to the showers, we should scrutinize the recievers and their ability to get open and catch the tough balls.

Speaking of the Arizona recievers, Anquan Bolden is wanting out of AZ and the Cardinals can't pay him the salary that he deserves. He is one hell of a tough guy and MAKES the tough catches. I hope Ziggy gets on the horn and shoots him off a phone call to get Bolden into a purple #81 jersey next year!

FINALLY

Someone making sense of this. I can’t defend the int’s either but some of those int’s were either tipped or off of the numbers of some of the receivers. If it hits you in the chest the qb has done all he can do. Now it’s in others hands. The thing I like most in Gus is his position. He never planned on starting after all the T-Jack stuff in the summer. But he’s been here for a while and I think Childress saw the right time to take T-Jack out. This was probably his best move as head coach thus far. I’m not religious but man i did a lot of praying when Jackson stepped back in the pocket to throw. Some say that childress didn’t open up the play book enough for him. Probably a lack of confidence on the coaching staff. If you can’t depend on your QB to do the one thing that he should be doing (throwing) than you’ve already written him up for the season. Sucks for t-jack

You know, AD really steps it up when others slip but how much longer can he carry his team? I think Gus knew the majority of the points scored were his fault and he took blame for it, like a man. I know he’ll redeem himself. When we take the north all who oppose will realize that the team doesn’t quit. And as a WHOLE are dominate.

11 ints and not everyone was a bounce off the reciever…i woud say abut 4.the other 7 came from bad reads. I mean if woodson is on B. wade… you’ve lost that match and its time to look for your check down.or how he gave the ball to nick collins. It was awful. This seasonj gus has not gone a game without a pick and it cant be blamed on ther receiving core. Gus wants to make the big play…thats whats makes him better than T-jack.but those chances also cost him. He just needs to find a balance… take what a defense gives him.

AP's record day, 296 in a single game.

These are my feelings. I think that people are giving him too easy of a pass for all his mistakes and nearly blown games. I mean, if it was Jackson throwing three or four ints a game, everyone would be demanding he’s benched. And I realize that we’ve seen Jackson at QB for all of two games, but he was never given much leeway, so I can’t really compare him to Gus, who’s had the playbook far more open.

My point is that Gus needs to settle down and stop trying to hand the game over to the other team. Yes, some have been tipped, yes he’s taken responsibility, but how about learning from the damn mistakes and correcting them now?

JESUS...

We always expect results. I expect them but from the start of the season we saw this coming. YOU GUYS, gus is 80 YEARS OLD! Dude isn’t no Brett or Kurt… He’s GUS. He’s managed wins and thats what we needed this season. He’s not our guy. He is this year cuz T jack is the worst excuse of a QB I’ve ever seen in the NFL… him and Jeff George are tied. But Gus will manage the rest of the season.

Gus is not a good quarterback now nor has he ever been. He is average AT BEST. Last year at Saint Louis he had 7 TD and 12 INT, in fact since 1994 he only throws 1.09 TD for every INT. His plus side, his experience but that is only good if you can actually make the throws. It’s not like he is out there forcing throws in the fourth quarter desperation, his picks are just bad reads or bad throws during normal game play. Thus far his average qb rating is 76.4 and he is about as mobile in the pocket as a drunken Bernie Kosar in a wheel chair. IF this team wins the division, or … nah I won’t even speak of playoffs … but if this team continues to have success it will be in spite of Gus Ferrotte which is a testament to the rest of our teams potential.

"Gus wants to make the big play thats whats makes him better " Tavaris was chucking the ball 50 yds down field on 3rd and six!~

Personally I think Jackson should have been give a couple more games. Childress put all our eggs in this basket if he really believed he was progressing better than Donovan then he should have ridden Jackson and coached him up at least a couple more games. That said Jackson may have continued to struggle and we would still be talking about how bad Ferrotte is!

Looking ahead at the free agent class of 2009 there appear only two quarterbacks who MIGHT be above average (God this team could be scary good if we had an above average QB). 1) Garcia – seems too close to the same old Vikings washed veteran qb theory that never gets us anywhere (exception Mr. Cunningham but that team was special and it could be argued a number of qbs could have produced those results). 2) The Patriots new kid Cassell – if we are taking that route we may as well start David Booty. Btw; if the Patriots are willing to coach up and start a qb that has not played since High School why would we hesitate to start Booty over Ferrotte if this crap continues? I am sorry we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t. At least starting the kid we MIGHT be getting somewhere.

So … we are damned if we do and damned if don’t. If this season continues as it has (unfortunately) I doubt Booty will get any playing time, well actually he might if Gus goes down or continues to play like this do we go to Jackson or Booty, probably Jackson? So Booty likely won’t be our starter week1 2009, Jackson will not be our starter week1 2009 (I hope) so that leaves us signing Garcia, or trading for a qb … Derek Anderson or McNabb?

Last year we won how many straight games without T-Jack even throwing for 150yds. We always have this QB situation. It comes with the territory. If we had an above average qb we would be f’n scary.
