The Rest of our Year - Predictions
We had an earlier post about this, but I want to see W/L predictions and playoff predictions, if you care to share...
@TB - close game, but I get the feeling Gus is going to blow this one since TB has a REALLY tricky D and it's an away game. 5-5
@JAX - another close game, but I see the Vikes winning this one. Jax has had trouble closing out games, and David Gerrard hasn't been throwing quite as well. 6-5
CHI - This game has me worried...it will undoubtedly decide the division, because, if we lose, the tie-breaker would go to CHI. If we win, CHI would likely be 1-2 games back with a tough remaining schedule. CHI has been playing really smooth ball this year. However, there's no way THAT many breaks will go against us again in the dome. We squeak it out at the end. 7-5
@DET - This will either be close or a blowout. If Chilly has ANY sense, he'll preach how close the first game was until he's blue in the face. This should be a win, though I suspect it'll be close too. 8-5
@ARI - Sorry folk, we will get blown out in this game. ARI wins something like 55-38. 8-6
ATL - This game has me scratching my head. This club has taken out all of the other North contenders. However, MIN has played well against NFC South clubs this year. Since it's in the dome, I give a slight edge to MIN because ATL's run D is still not that great...expect a big game from AD after the loss in ARI 9-6
NYG - After seeing Eli dismantle the Steelers, Cowboys, and Eagles in back-to-back-to-back weeks, I'd say it's safe to say this team is your #1 seed locked up by the last game. Expect an early lead by the Giants, but MIN roars like hell in the second half, when the Giants' backups are in. 10-6
Where does 10-6 leave us? Most likely that will be a #3 or #4 seed, meaning we will play against one of the top wild cards. The way things are shaping up, that could be anybody - the Redskins, Cowboys, Eagles, Bears, Panthers, and Bucs are ALL in contention for that spot. Whoever it is, I'd say that AD will probably shine at home in the Vikes first home playoff game since, what, 2001?
Round 2 we travel to either NY or ARI, where we get our butts handed to us on a silver platter. However, it sure is better than the last few years...
What do you all think?

Hmmm.
I disagree on the AZ game as that team essentially lost to the hapless 49ers. That, and AZ has no offense. We should take the Giants easily as they’ll be playing scrubs because they should have the division locked up. For some reason, we’ve pounded the Giants last two years so I like our chances versus any team in the NFL. We played the Titans tough at home after all.

we wont lose to the bucs or the cards
na bucs shoulda lost to KC… KC!!! and the cards shoulda lost to the 49ers… the NINERS! and I don’t like the cards at #2: they have PHI, MN, and NE. so lol and Playoff spots.
#1: Giants
#2: Atlanta ( I see atlanta maybe losing to us and maybe… MAYBE San Diego)
I like the Cards at #3
#4: MINNESOTA! =)
#5: Redskins
#6: and Carolina stealin there way into the playoffs.
The Bears have GB twice, Us again, the Saints and St louis team that can show up any week and win. I think the game between us and Cards will decide #3 and #4… so should be cool.

The Williams Wall cloud
If the Williams’s are suspended make that record 7-9 at best.

11-5 if we dont lose this game we will lose to Arz maybe but i still think we can handle them…if san fran can find a way into that game when they really shouldn’t have been…then we’ll be fine, i think…i believe AP could have a massive day on the Cards, because man…Frank gore was finding some holes

oh excuse me i wasnt done…However if w dont lose to the Cards we are are going 12-4 and taking 2nd seed. I see carolina getting the 3rd seed and finishing maybe 11-5 but it looks more like 10-6. go look at the schedule and tell me if you disagree. Arizona might finsh 8-8 but i can see a 9-7. so they get the 4th seed. look at the schedule and tell me if you disagree. Widcards could be one of these 4 teams…Tampa Bay…The redskins who i think will take the 5th seed…the cowboys…and ami really saying this but the falcons.

So if we can get past the Cards and the Buccs we got a 60% percent chance of winning those remaining games

My preseason prediction was 7-9
At 5-4, the Vikings should be 2-7 (and on their way to 6-10 or 5-11) by my estimation. With those 3 unearned wins vs. Detroit, NO, and GB, I still think they will finish 7-9:
@TB: loss
@JAX: loss
vCHI: win (the Vikes could also lose this one and win an upset in its place)
@DET: win
@ARI: loss
vATL: loss
vNYG: loss.
Of course, I WANT 12-4, but I don’t think that is realistic given the Vikings’ QB situation and/or playcalling and coach (who is ultimately responsible for both).

Zero faith…when the shit is hitting the fan then all is lost. Were 5-4 and have to think seriously like we can make a push i think we can. it is realistic. chilly can coach just as good as any one can…how about are players play with the same intensity and drive as AP. then it would be all good. but frerotte and the special teams has been a heel. corrections can always be made week in and week out so there is time to make them.just manage the game frerotte and we can finish strong.

“@DET – This will either be close or a blowout. If Chilly has ANY sense, he’ll preach how close the first game was until he’s blue in the face. This should be a win, though I suspect it’ll be close too. 8-5”
This isn’t college football. I doubt Childress has to remind anyone that the first Detroit game was close.
“na bucs shoulda lost to KC… KC!!! and the cards shoulda lost to the 49ers… the NINERS!”
It seems all of you are forgetting that in the NFL, any team can win on any day. Tennessee almost lost to Baltimore, does this make them bad? Every team will have down weeks, so to use this argument to say TB or ARZ are crap is not very analytical. Guess what, the Vikings almost lost to Detroit…DETROIT!!! I guess Tampa should walk all over us then……..
As for my predictions…I see us finishing 9-7 or 8-8. Yes, every game from here on out is winable. But that doesn’t mean we WILL win every game. Every game is loseable also (look no further than Detroit game). I think it is fruitless to look at each individual game and predict who will win, because upsets happen every single week. You don’t know which game AP will give up a costly fumble. You don’t know which game Frerotte will suck beyond hope.
The most telling thing about this team is that they play every game close, and because of this they are basically a .500 team. There’s really no way around it. Which is why I say 9-7 or 8-8. Of course, any team can get hot or cold. They could very well finish 11-5. They could also finish 6-10. But if I had to put put money on it, the odds are a 9-7 or 8-8 finish, plain and simpe.

yeah
but you can’t really go by the AZ/SF game, thats a divisional rival and we all know how tricky that can get.. if we can get to Warner, we can win the game, but first we have to focus one game at a time and next is Tampa Bay… They have a stingy defense, but their offense is a lot like ours.. if we can stop the run and make garcia beat us i don’t see them doing it, the toughest games left are CHI, ATL, and NYG in no order.
What up?

Warner
If the Williams wall is in tact and allen on the side. Do you think Warner will even see them coming? Has he faced a great D like this one? I don’t think AZ will be as hard as everyone is saying. Warner hasn’t faced a D like ours yet.

I say...
It’s going to be hard but really possible to go 7 out. It can be done.

it was also possible to go 9-0 through our games so far. it just doesn’t happen.

yeah but tell me we wouldnt have beat the packers on monday night…or the colts for that matter because we dominated….if we would have had a quarterback who could MANAGE more than just a slant route,or a swing pass to his runningback.

I don't like calling Gus a game manager.
He’s honestly more of an average gunslinger.

Whoops. Read you're comment wrong.
Manage to make more throws, not manage the game. My bad.

Just for the record...
I absolutely hate the terms “gunslinger” and “pick-six.”
The Vikings will probably go 8-8. It’s possible to get ten wins, but we’re going to have to get lucky against a couple good teams. The Vikings will most certainly not win out. Tampa Bay, Arizona, Atlanta, and New York are the big ones on the schedule. Detroit should be a gimme, and I think we should beat Chicago seeing as it’s incredibly tough to sweep division opponents. Jacksonville will be tough, but Garrard has not been playing well lately.
So, taking into account the two wins we absolutely should get against division opponents, that would put us at 7-4. I believe we can beat Jacksonvillve, so that’s 8-4. The other four teams are all very quality. I don’t necessarily think we’ll lose to them all. The Giants could be resting starters; if not, we will most likely have a hard one there. Assuming they have everything wrapped up, that’s a possible win.
Arizona’s offense is too productive right now. I don’t see us getting that game.
Atlanta and Tampa Bay are the two big swing games. Atlanta is a game I think we can win, but we’ll have to rattle the superb rookie Matt Ryan (wouldn’t he look good in purple?). Tampa Bay is going to be very hard, but they are very inconsistent. If we can take out the Bucaneers, I think we’ve got a shot at the playoffs with our remaining schedule.
If not, it might be time to look ahead to next year and the Vikings new starting QB Matt Cassel.

Or Sam Bradford
What are your feelings about Tebow? Should the Vikes go for him?

Well that would be me using "gunslinger." I'll refrain from doing so from now on.
On a side note, what would a good term for a QB like Gus be? Besides the obvious adjectives that might come to mind. He’s not a game manager really, but he’s not a home run guy most of the time either. Just plain average?
