Love lies Bleeding in my hands
*walks in, pulling the Viking horn from his chest, and sits down with a weary sigh*
Hey fellow Viking fans, at first I thought I was going to get a treat since Fox switched its coverage from the Packer Blow Out of the Bears, to the Viking Tampa Bay game. I live in Redskin country in Virginia, so this was a rare treat. (I get to see the Vikes play prolly four games a year, the rest of the time I'm on my crappy PC watching the the game on the slow server at nfl.com and not the real game, the thing with the helmets to show what is going on in the game.) I wonder if I am the only Vikings fan that has to see our games on the net, gnawing at my finger nails as I wait for the NFL guy to type in what happened on each play. Sometimes it takes ten minutes to get the results of the last play posted.
Well, anyway, I was trilled until the fourth quarter MELT DOWN. I just sat there, in my Vikings PJ pants, Vikings Tee shirt, Vikings Sweatshirt, and my new Vikings hat (I buy a new hat every season!) and clutching my Jim Marshall autographed Fleer "Greats of the Game" trading card from the year 2000. And like so many Sundays before, my team ripped my heart out. A friend of mine has this running joke (he is a Redskin fan) that the Vikings need to get Dr. Heimlich as their team physician because we always choke! I don't let it bother me though, because there is nothing anyone can say or do about my team that could ever hurt me as much as watching them lose. My son even asked me once, why I sit there in the final minutes of every televised game, no matter if we are winning big, or losing badly.
Simple I told him, if you are a true fan of any team, you never abandon them. You get stoic, and watch them go down in flames, taking our hopes for a championship season down with them. I must admit, after the crappy 1983 season, I turned snarling away from the losers who had broken my heart since their first Superbowl defeat at the hands of the KC Chiefs. I was a Redskins fan for one year, and the Skins lost to Oakland in the superbowl that year, and I knew I hadda go back to my beloved Vikings. I guess something in my DNA just sticks me to team from a land I never seen.
Thank the Good Lord that the Bears lost so big to the Packers today!! That ties us up with the Bears.
Rock on and peace out

Grrrrr....
Don’t I feel dumb, since I was skipping between NFL.com and my blog post. A three way tie for first, arggggg!!! Anyways, I’m an English major and numbers just bounce off my forehead. It was nice to get the replies to my post, it somehow makes the pain less….who am I kidding, nothing hurts like a loss to them crappy packers. Not only that, but everyone knows the bears will be out for blood, but at least I will get to see the game since it is a Sunday night trip on NBC!!
Rock hard, Ride free

I share your pain
I didn’t get the game till the fourth quarter switch from the pack game either cause i live in Omaha. I was also monitoring the game on a stupid gamecast thing like you did. It sucks. I usually see the games because i’ll go to buffalo wild wings, but I didn’t have a car this week.

I don't even get to gamecast much of the time
Most of the time I’m at work on Sundays, and have to sneakily check to see if I have text updates from my friends. Better than nothing but still… no fun.
In AP I trust

I live in Arizona
So I have seen three games so far this year. It’s a huge bummer, yes.
Especially considering I write a blog.

VA here too, and it doesn’t bother me so much that there’s a lot of redskins fans here, but the cowboys thing is pretty annoying, so you’re not alone in VA!
What up?

Montana here
Maybe get to see 5 games a year, been a fan since Kapp era myself.Wife came to the basement watched last 10 mins of Pack-Vike game last week.Asked why I keep watching the Vikes year in and year out.Good Question, wish I had an answer.
Kind of reminds me of Lucy and charlie brown with kicking the football, that belief no matter what this time is it LOL.Or it could be I just enjoy painfully be put to death each weekend.Like I read in a post somwhere on the internet,“I have had it with the Vikes,I have watched them for 40 years, and they better turn it around in the next 2 decades.”
Its tough being a Vike fan,but who else would we rather root for.

Virginian Too....
Growing up in the 60’s we didn’t have to worry about the Redskins too much as they lost every year and the only fans they had were the old timers who were clinging to the teams of the 40’s. I became a Viking fan during the Kapp era also…when you couldn’t find a jersey to wear and all you could get was a purple beanie or a sweat shirt if you were lucky. I’ve always considered Redskin fans kind of brainwashed here as the local channels show all their games and the media talks about them they’re the only team in the league. I miss the old days of the outdoor games at the Met… when Bud Grant refused to allow heaters on the sidelines…when it wasn’t uncommon to see our Vikes playin in below zero temps before Thanksgiving…when both teams were on the same sidelines…when homefield advantage meant other teams were petrified to be coming to Minnesota to the playoffs in Dec…when hall of famers like Larry Csonka still feel the hit of a Vikings linebacker years later….Memories like those and others keep me a die-hard fan. I wish they still played outdoors. I never miss a game (thank God for Sunday ticket) and even through the losing seasons, I’ll still be there in front of the tube on Sunday. From what I’m reading here, we all share that same kind of devotion and maybe one day we’ll all celebrate that championship that’s eluded us all these years.
