Better Know the Jacksonville Jaguars: Q&A With Big Cat Country!
Greetings!
I'm Chris, the humble Jaguars blogger from Big Cat Country, one of the SB Nation NFL Blogs. I'm joining you today to open up a discussion about my desperate Jaguars as we look toward our meeting on Sunday.
So if you've got any questions, comments, concerns, or just want to talk a little smack, feel free to do so here, I'll respond to just about anything.
Did you know that the Vikings are the last team in the NFL to come to Jacksonville? Since 1995, you've never travelled to J-ville.
I look forward to your questions!
-Chris

yeah...
what’s wrong with the Jags? I had a $50 bet with a friend that the Jags will finish ahead of the Colts this year. Is there any confidence in J-Ville that they can pass Indy?

The current attitude
Is well, how much worse can it get? Barring a miracle all we’re playing for right now is to finish above .500

I second FSBlue
At one point I thought I the Jaguars were at least resigned to a fate of not going to the playoffs, but would still be better than the Colts.
Then Manning caught fire.
I’d start hedging your bet…

David Garrard?
How is David Garrard as a quarterback? He is fairly old, 30, but seems at least somewhat mobile?
I’ve also heard that he is pretty accurate. Is his lack of success/poor TD/INT ratio due to his receivers? or his own ability?
How big of a day do you think he will have against this shaky Viking pass defense?
Also, how’s good ’ol Troy Williamson doing?

Garrard is the reason we're 4-6 and not fighting with the Lions and Bengals for the #1 pick
He got off to a rough start this season mainly because I think he signed a big extension and thought he was supposed to gun things in there live Favre, and like Favre, alot of stupid INTs happened that he didn’t throw last year. That being said, alot of our offensive foes this season can be pointed squarely at injuries to the O-line. It’s been decimated this year, and the affects can be felt everywhere. We haven’t run the ball well in almost any game we’ve played this season and when we have thrown, Garrard’s been running for his life. As for Troy, we haven’t seen him get a case of the drops yet, then again he’s spent most of the year at the bottom of the chart.

Remember...
Garrard is 30, but with low miles. Though, now he’s a older car with low miles that’s getting driven into the ground on every single play, which isn’t the best thing in the world.
His troubles start and end with the Offensive line. He’s getting hands in his face on every single play and without a running game to ease the pressure, he’s not able to get the ball away cleanly.
I’ve liked what I’ve seen out of Troy, no serious drops, but he’s been hurt with a groin injury for awhile, so it’s not helping much either.

So what would you say is the key matchup?
So far it sounds like our defensive line vs. your offensive line.
In AP I trust

ya gotta be kidding with
Being happy with Troy,he has what 5 catches 30 yards and a TD. Or did ya mean him keeping a warm spot for Gerard on the bench.I had to love his wanting to meet Chilly on the 50 all we had to do is tape like 30 footballs to old Chilli and he would never get touched.
Do ya think your o-line can handle Jared and company,to buy enough time for deep threats or is it possible for a dink and dunk day.Hows your running game going to be.
So, do you think the players will talk as much trash to our’s as they did to the Lions?
Seriously though, how do you forsee the offense attacking our defense? It seems certain that we’ll have all four norsemen coming up, and we’re pretty staunch against the run (again) and I haven’t heard too much hullabalooh about your recievers.
If we get push up front
The game plan is simply, hand it off, wait till they get close, then hit them with the passing game. The Jags offense is straight out of the 60s but when its on, its on. That said, our O-line just isn’t good this year.

Matt Jones
What’s the deal with his situation? I am just wondering if you think that he’ll face a suspension before the end of the year. I have him on my fantasy team and he’s doing well.
Who knows
IMO, they overreacted with the 3 game suspension and the league knows it. I think the debate going on right now is what kind of message it sends if he does get off with no suspension.

Who'd win in a fight
If Troy Williamson dressed up as a winning game plan and Childress dressed up as a long bomb with no safeties back deep?
by Jepp The Viking on Nov 20, 2008 11:23 AM CST reply actions
I would think Childress. He’s, you know, won games. 19 out of 42, That’s around 50%, a little less, but around there.
Troy Williamson would have been lucky to catch 50% of the passes thrown his way downfield. We all know his % is waaaay lower than that. So, definitely, Childress has the advantage. Plus he has a bad ass moustache.
