Around SBN: Peyton Manning Medically Cleared To Resume NFL Career

This is the Week...

This is the week the Vikings put together the type of total team performance we have been dreaming about since before week 1.  This is the week our season officially begins with a slate so clean you can eat off it.  After all, we have the same number of wins and losses and there are more than two teams tied for first place.  It may as well be week 1 as far as three of the four teams in the NFC North are concerned.

This Vikings team has had enough of the inconsistency.  Enough moments of feeling emotionally curb-stomped by an epic error that leads to failure.  Enough flights home feeling like they outplayed an inferior opponent only for the score to say otherwise.  Enough time wasted answering questions about why they weren't able to get it done.

Something tells me Childress and company have used all this Troy Williamson crap as fuel for a massive fire about to be started come Sunday at noon.  As if the motivation of beating Mike Tice wasn't enough for him, he now has a joke of a  defensive back who tries to play offense calling him out personally (I still can't get over the fact that he said all that and isn't going to play).

I originally thought this type of spark was going happen against Green Bay two weeks ago but was let down by mistakes as we almost let it slip away (thank you Mason Crosby).  I had a sour taste last week and thought the Bucs D could limit us pretty well.

This week, however, no doubt whatsoever-- it's on.  The Vikings will get the blowout, beat-down, statement victory we've all been craving that comes with a well-played game in all three phases.  I'm going to go out on an even bigger limb and say that this is the beginning of the kick ass offense actually kicking ass.

I know some of you will get a good laugh out of my optimism, but I really feel like despite what we've seen so far that we have the talent and coaching to win a playoff game.  To those who are laughing (and those who agree with me)-- let's hope this week can be the beginning of you changing your mind.

Well, it is against the Jaguars. Of course, we only have one more win than they do.

I disagree...

I disagree with both of you. While I know we won’t blow out the Jags, I think we have an opportunity to win by a safe margin. Assuming we can slow down Maurice Jones-Drew, Garrard has been inconsistent enough (in my opinion) for us to put the game on him and force him to beat us.

Can he do it? I think so. Will he? I doubt it.

I suspect Kevin and Pat Williams to be playing like there’s no tomorrow because…well…there may not be for them. At least four tomorrows. Jared Allen will be pretty upset and itching to hit somebody; hopefully he doesn’t get too cautious fearing a suspension from Czar Goodell.

Chad Greenway = the man. Just needs to work on his coverage. Expect double digit tackles from him.

As long as we force Garrard to beat us, I think we’ll be fine. Make any team one dimensional and you can probably win. Force them to be one dimensional and force some turnovers and you’re practically guaranteed it. The Vikings are certainly capable of doing that. It just depends on which Vikings team we get.

If you've been a Vikings fan for long...

You’ll know that believing isn’t enough.

The Vikings franchise has the worst luck in the history of sports. Period.

Well, maybe not history of sports, but for the NFL in recent memory.

Of course, I’m biased.

And I do believe. To the point of pain sometime, I believe. I wanted Tarvaris to just blow the doors off. I want Childress to be a great coach. I want the Vikings to be contenders. I believe they can. They just haven’t shown that they’re ready I guess.
