Looking Ahead
So i was looking over our options this coming offseason to fix our biggest weakness, our qb. Here are the six options i think we have this offseason.
Option 1-we beg gus frerotte not to retire and give us another season of mediocrity while management tries to figure out what to do with the present qb situation, we've been down this road before with BJ and we all know how that turned out.
Option 2- we turn the reins over to Tavaris Jackson again and see if he matured with the one year off tutelage under Gus. Im not totally against this but i will need to see some major improvement to be sold on tjack as our franchise qb. at best i think he is backup material.
Option 3- JD Booty, yes he looked terrible in the preseason but i can see him making major strides come next season, but that doesn't mean he'll be a franchise qb, i like his upside but its just too early to know, my least favorite option
Option 4-You all know that Derek Anderson was bench for Brady Quinn earlier this season, and i see it staying that way in Cleveland as they invested a first round pick in Quinn a year ago, so that could me that Anderson will be available to the highest bidder come this offseason, and if that's the case i would like to see him in purple and gold.
Option 5- Matt Cassel, he's looked good for the Pats and he's mobile. I don't think the patriots will be able to resign him at the end of the season so i could see minnesota bringing him in, but im not completely sold on how good he is, his supporting cast in NE is much better than the supporting cast Minnesota could give him.
0ption 6- Minnesota historically hasn't drafted many QBs and i wouldn't expect them to change that this year. But if they were to take a qb in the draft Tim Tebow or Chase Daniels would be my picks, Daniels is the most pro ready qb in the draft this year and Tebow is quite the playmaker and is turning into a really good qb in florida.

Where is the Colt McCoy, Graham Harrell, or Sam Bradford option? I think this Draft will be loaded with legitimate quarterbacks

Yeah why are there are only two college qbs?
Especially since one is Tebow, who gets knocked a lot for being a system qb. None of these are even among the top 3 at their position this year.
I say pick up Cassel and draft someone.

Picking up Cassel,
and Drafting someone means jettisoning 2 of our three QB’s. Gus Gus mioght retire, so that is one. the other would have to be either TJack or JDB. I don’t think we can find a trade partner for either QB so we would likely have to cut one of those two for nothing. I am not sure what would happen to TJack, if some one else would pick him up or not, but I do believe that JDB would not make it through waivers.

Honestly I wish they’d throw Jackson back under center. The next game where Gus loses it for us with 4 picks, pull him and put in Jackson. And open the damn playbook this time. I want to see what Childress saw in him this whole time. I’m not being cynical, I think it’d just be better to KNOW what he can do instead of having to bite our nails this coming offseason wondering how good or bad he might be.

I've given up on TJack
I’m a “blame Chili first” kind of guy. So when he decided to bench TJack and play Ferotte I believed TJack probably would have looked a lot better with a real coach and was just being thrown under the bus.
But TJack’s reaction to getting benched has convinced me he will never be starting NFL quarterback material. Look at him on the sidelines and he appears to be completely disinterested in the game. He’s not standing near the coaches, no clipboard, no playbook, no headphones. He’s more than happy to hand over the reigns to someone else and collect a paycheck. He doesn’t need to interfere or get in the way but he could at least pretend to care.
I can’t say I’m too excited by any of the QB options listed in this post but if I had to choose I’d say Tim Tebow just so we could see his girlfriend on camera as often as possible.

I wasn’t sold on him before, but two weeks in a row with 400+ yards. Matt Cassel should be our man next year. Even with Randy Moss and their recieving corps out classing our’s, its hard to throw for 400 yards two weeks in a row. I’d say he has some skills. Now if only they’d let him go.

Holy moley, Tebow’s girl has got some tig ol’ bitties.
I hope that Minny at least takes a look at Cassel. It’s hard to be sold on a guy who only plays one year at QB (Derek Anderson???) but it’s even harder to be sold on a college QB (Majority of them are busts). I hope that there is at least some interest shown.
