Adrian Peterson and Cedric Griffin benched
If you ask me, Chilly made the right decision here - we don't need leeway to the point of more "love boat" incidents. What do you all think?
Here's part of the article on Access Vikings:
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Coach Brad Childress said that running back Adrian Peterson was held out of the Vikings’ first two offensive series today because he was late to a team meeting on Saturday. “It’s just how we do business,” Childress said after his team’s 30-12 victory. “We talked to our leadership committee. They are all unanimous with that and that’s just the way it goes. Everybody else is accountable, they’re accountable as well.”
Said Peterson: I fully understand it and accept it. That’s one thing I know abourt our coach, there’s no prima donnas. … It wasn’t really anything big but I respect his decision.”
Although it went largely unnoticed, cornerback Cedric Griffin also did not start because he also was late for the meeting. Marcus McCauley started in Griffin’s place. That fact was easy to overlook because the Jaguars fumbled on the first play from scrimmage and Napoleon Harris returned the ball 27 yards for a touchdown. Griffin returned on the next series.
Peterson also was benched for the Vikings’ opening offensive series in the regular-season finale last year at Denver after being late for a team bus.

I think AP might finally be getting tired of Colonel Klink. Maybe if Childress is late for a team meeting we can see what the offense is really capable of.

I can’t blame Childress for this, to be honest. It makes him look weak if he gives Peterson leeway from team rules just because he’s an amazing player. We dont’ want him turning into a Chad Ocho Cinco.

Adrian and Chester should go 60/40 on carries.

That decision is fine.
I just hate not knowing what’s going on. The announcers never have ANY idea what’s going on so it never helps when they try and analyze the situation.

There ain't no "We" either
(In team) That commercial was hilarious. That certainly isn’t AP’s attitude beginning to wonder about some others tho.
Remember the 40 for 60 Bunch. Maybe we need to pound that point out again. Put it in the locker room and on players T-shirts with photos of greats past.
The idea It is “WE”! We are part of program with a proud past and heritage. In this day of free agency there must be a way to make these guys feel they are part of something special and the fans live and die with them on Sunday afternoon.
Players in other sports feel that way. Detroit and Montreal in hockey, the Celtics and lakers in NBA, Yankees in baseball. I see some of that in Steeler players and up til recent years Da Raiders.
It is OK to deal out some discipline and it sure made AP aware right of the start he is not exempt from rules

Gonzo on 60/40
I agree but mix it up a little. Have Taylor come in with plays designed for his expertise and same for AP. Have you noticed this bread and butter run calling is worthless. It seems like on delayed handoffs and counters these guys tear it up. But this bash the line crap is so “high school” any D can stop it. We sit at our local hangout here and can predict when a big play is coming just by the way the timing of the handoff is handled. AP and I even noticed Taylor, just thriving on that extra split second for the O line to create a hole and then they are pulling off 10, 15, 20 yd. runs. They don’t even care about the LB’s and D backs as it becomes one on one.
As a former coach you can blend a lot of scemes into basic run plays but I seldom see the Vikes create these scemes to accomodate the skill they have at RB. Combined it would not be impossible to have 2200-2500 total yds rushing in a season with Taylor and Peterson. Single set, I form without a FB would open up a ton of options. Even more split back sets. All these give the illusion of a run with screens, fade out, fake short dump pass with a delayed draw type hand off not to mention TE and WR slant option.

They’re running more cutback plays for Peterson, to their credit. I agree with you on the special running plays though. The HB Draw is just killing teams. Sometimes I think its stupid to do, like in the 3rd and long situations, but then I see Chester Taylor convert a 3rd and 13 with the play and I can understand some of the questionable playcalling.

Right on Frost
Doesn’t that 3rd and long crap make you scatch your head? Sure it worked with Taylor but it still is a failure the majority of the times. Maybe more draws and cutbacks are in the works more-if Chilly and Beldar the Conehead are watching film.
What drives me most nuts is all the “bread and butter” calls that are made when everything else has been working. It’s like we have a 7 pt. lead, “let’s be carefu, we might overdo itl” If we are that afraid to mix things up for the whole game we’ll never see if this offense can do anything.
