Should the Vikings Move to a Single Wing Formation?
What do you think, guys? The retro single wing formation, for those who haven't read the latest issue of SI, works best with more than one able running back who can run and throw. While Peterson may not be the best passer in the league, Taylor's duck against the Saints showed promise. :)
Should the Vikings move to a "Wildcat" formation and forget Frerotte?
If you care to read more of my opinion on this, please check out VikingVigil.com later in the week. I should have something up by then.
Until then, however, please discuss whether or not the single wing formation would work in Minnesota.

I think the move back to the retro style is kind of dumb, to be honest. You’ll notice that even the Dolphins have backed off on their wildcat formation, and that, minus the game against New England, it really sucks.
Granted, the playcalling now isn’t anything to be jealous of, but the single wing died for a reason.

Voted other
The only way this would work effectively and also maybe very well is to have Tarvaris as the QB cause you could have a defensive tackle cover Frerotte split out wide but Jackson could be a potentially dangerous receiver.

Nah
How well a play works or not is dependent upon variables other than who will get the ball. Only one will get the ball, and the guys left to block for him aren’t as effective as the ones on the bench at the time if Jackson is in for Tahi and Taylor is subbed for Shiancoe/Kleinsasser, etc.. The pass or run variable has a much larger impact on the defense than which player will get the ball in a predominantly running formation.
I had to laugh when Childress claimed to have started Taylor instead of Peterson because he needed to shake things up a little bit. Yeah, as if the problem was having the best RB in the NFL on the field. That reminded me a lot of his attempt to improve the passing game by cutting the team leader in TD receptions on Xmas Eve in his first year.
If Coach Childress thinks that this will help his ego or potentially add some sort of attention as a genius or old school wizard, then he will do it. It doesn’t need to make sense or produce good results in the win column.

I love the new Peyton Manning commercial.
Frost, no offense, but I disagree on the Miami comment. I believe that Miami’s success has relied on some of the best play-calling I have ever seen. I get a Miami game on cable about every other week, and it has been simply phenomenal. The reemergence of Ronnie Brown has also worked wonders for their system. I don’t disagree that the Wildcat formation would hurt us; there is no way to know if that would help, but I would love to see Frerotte get the f off the field. If any team ran Wildcat to its highest potential, it would be the Vikes, however I don’t think it would translate to consistent success. Plus, we’d still have Childress behind the helm calling every play the other team expects. And yes, single wing will never make a full return in the NFL. I guess I don’t disagree with your post. KC Viking your last sentence is hilarious.
