DRAFT.... A.... QB

Lets see, past few teams to win Superbowls... you tell me which one stands out

05 - Pats - Tom Brady

06 - Steelers - Ben Rothesberger

07 - Colts - Payton Manning

08 - Giants - Eli Manning

09 - Vikings - Gus Ferrote / T-Jack

JUST, DRAFT, A, QUARTERBACK. You may need help in other areas, and obviously AP was a different situation, but in 2009 there is absolutely no excuse to draft a QB with our first pick. NONE. You need a QB to win, Gus Ferrote, t-jack, and John David Booty just arent Super Bowl quality quarterbacks, sorry to break it to anyone.

You don't need a QB to win...

We’re 8-5 with a 94 year old QB who moves around in the pocket like he’s in a wheelchair lol The only QB up there that plays for a team ‘Almost’ like the vikes is the G-Men cuz they have Jacobs. We have AP. AP doesn’t play for Tom ‘gayboy’ Brady, or Ben ‘everything always hurts on me’ Rothesberger lol We’ll get a QB but personally I think a pocket passer wouldn’t be good for out team. We gotta feed AP the rock and have fast QB. Bring Vick in!!!

Vote Vick!

Might as well shift to the Pistol formation full time...

and draft Colin Kaepernick(6’6 245 QB by then) if you want to wait that long(draft of 2010).

Depends on whats available where we pick really. No point in reaching for a QB, when we could use help just about any where but RB.

Yeah...

We definitely need a quarterback that can throw the football in the pocket with the added ability to scramble. I can’t believe how anyone could see it any other way, the only thing this team is missing to be a contender is a quarterback. Let’s face it, that’s a pretty big aspect of the team.

And we do not want Michael Vick. Vick simply is not a true quarterback. He has horrible passer ratings, terrible accuracy and makes stupid decisions with the football. While he may be an exciting player, he is not a superbowl caliber quarterback.

However, with all that said, I think it is an interesting point when people say you don’t need a qb to win. To a point it is true. Trent Dilfer won a SB behind that incredible Tampa Bay defense several years ago. But the thing with Dilfer was that while he wasn’t an exceptional quarterback, he certainly could make the right decisions and provided somewhat of a passing threat.

What I think the Vikes need to do is either draft a QB in the first round, or try and get a hold of McNabb, Brady Quinn, or Matt Cassel (spelling?).

correction,

Trent dilfer played for Baltimore when he won the SB, Brad Johnson was Tampa’s QB, but your points still holds true.

Trent Dilfer is probably one of the worst QB’s to win a SB, but Baltimore had one of the greatest defences ever assembled, and a solid run game. our run game is probably better then Baltimores wass, but their defence was much better then ours is right now.

Our D would be right up there though if not for a few key injuries this season.

yeah,

for every matt ryan there or 4 ryan leaf’s. I gotta give props to atlanta, i thought they made the wrong move when they drafted him, but it turns out they were right. but that is as much luck as it is any thing else.

And who ...

… praytell would we draft in the first round? this is a widely considered weak year for senior QB’s, and most of the highly regarded underclassmen are expected to return to college next season. unless someone declares early, and falls to us somewhere in the 20’s, two very improbably things to happen, there wont be any one available for us to draft, that isn’t better then what we already have. better to find out now, what we have in TJack, and if need be, go after the best option during the offseason, whether that be derek anderson, matt cassel, Kurt Warner, or Jeff Garcia. If T-Jack isn’t the man, then one of those guys will need to be our leader for 1-3 years while we develop somebody.

wont reach us,

we needed to play even more poorly then we did if we wanted any chance to grab him.

If no underclassmen QB come out this year...

Rumblings are that there are no quarterbacks worthy of a first round grade and some don’t even have any in the second round. So coalcowksi, I would prefer we let things play out and take the best player available.

PS— I heard that from Gil Brandt so I trust the shit out of it.

I have heard,

similer things from Walter Football, and form espn. most grades on the qb crop this year, too meny falts, not enough umph.

more likely

we look to fix the right side of the line in the draft. there are 4 or 5 OT who will be drafted in the first round. I bet one of them will be ours.

O-line would be nice. Having a better line is always a plus. Ours isn’t terrible, but they aren’t very good in pass protection.

by Frost on Dec 10, 2008 6:31 PM CST up reply actions

O-Line's...

built with high draft picks are a perfect foundation for AP and protecting the QB. Look at Carolina, all of them are from the first 3 rounds.

by BacksThePack on Dec 10, 2008 8:24 PM CST up reply actions

Matt Stafford????

His completion percentage is 56.9% in COLLEGE!!!

We would be better off further developing tjack or booty or just picking up a younger QB who hasn’t proven himself. Stafford isn’t worth any more than a 3rd round pick.

by BeardedAxe on Dec 10, 2008 6:28 PM CST reply actions

Matt Stanfford is

a consensus top 5 pick, most expect him to go #1 to Detroit, unless Sam Bradford declares early, but again, most of the Super Underclassmen are not expected to declare early, so …

I know

His draft rating is grossly inflated by the weak QB draft. Stafford is nothing special besides his physical attributes.

by BeardedAxe on Dec 10, 2008 10:04 PM CST up reply actions

Hell no

Use T Jack next year. If he doesn’t work out or show improvement then wait to draft Matthew Stafford.

I’d rather get McNabb right now. Unless Jackson can wow my socks off in the next couple games.

by Frost on Dec 11, 2008 9:01 AM CST up reply actions

Ugh...

MCNabb is all fun and games to wish you have on your team, until you actually have him and realize it’s not as much fun as you thought.

Even if we had McNabb, he’s a 2-3 year stop gap and we’d need a QB to groom in the mean time.
