TJack Fan or not, this scenario is PERFECT

for the Vikings! Why you ask? Let me tell you.

I think we can all agree the Vikings are a decent QB away from being legit contenders in the NFC. We all know (or at least you should) that Gus is not a viable option going further for the Vikings.

How do get that missing piece? Some say trade for McNabb, others want Zygi to back up the truck for Cassel. I think we might already have our guy. Now, before you tar and feather me, hear me out.

Tarvaris Jackson is a raw talent. He is mobile enough to make plays with his legs. Has the arm to make EVERY throw in the NFL. Trouble is he is very raw.

Now the ideal situation would have been to take the Aaron Rodgers approach and let him sit and watch on the bench for a couple of years. Unfotuantely for Tarvaris, Chilly in his infinite wisdom threw Jackson into the fire much to soon.

However, Jackson spent the entire training camp getting #1 guy reps, started the season (albeit injured) as the guy and underperfomed (to put it mildly). Now Jackson has had the opportunity to sit back and watch and see what he has to do in order for the team to win. And it's not throw for 300 yrds a game, he doesn't have to throw 2 TD's every game. He just needs to (thanks Denny) drive the car!

I think we seen last sunday signs of Tarvaris 'getting' it now. Yes, it was the Lions but it was still a pressure packed situation on the road in a game we were behind and HAD to have.

Jackson will find himself in the exact situation this sunday and thats PERFECT. We have to find out if Tarvaris can possibly be our guy going into the future. We have a fair amount invested in him, yet have no idea what kind of player he can be. Perfect world ,Tarvaris grabs the reins and doesn't let go. Just think how good it would be (regardless of how this season finishes) to go into the offseason and draft time feeling pretty good about our QB situation. If we already have our QB on the roster that opens up the door to really go out again and make a Jared Allen or Benard Berrian  type aquisition.

Exciting time right now for us Purple brothers and sisters! Our future will be a lot more defined over the next couple of weeks! Hang on tight!

Oh, and Go Saints!!!

could not agree more

Either he can or he can’t (I think he can) and I am certain that Gus can’t. I was begging and praying for TJ in the Tampa game seeing what an old qb that can move was able to do to us and than having to watch gus and his patended bounce pass……..I can’t be the only that notices that pretty much every pass that he throws had to have the receiver diving to the ground to catch it thereby eliminating any YAC.

I am so fricken excited to see the game this week…..my only fear is that Chilly is going to handcuff him again and make him run the play that is called ….even if it perfectly clear that they have the perfect defense for it

Chilly won't handcuff him (I hope!)

I think Chilly’s acknowledgement this week that he “may have overcoached” T-Jack the first two weeks was as enormous as anything we’ve seen. I’m not only thrilled to see TJ get the nod – I’ve written numerous posts to that effect – I’m hopeful that Chilly, too, has learned something here, and that we’ll see progress this week not just in TJ but in the coach-quarterback relationship!

Playbook Selection

I really hope the playbook is opened up for T. Jack. I’d like to see some deep shots, and throws in the seam to #81, basically playcalls past the first down marker. The Vikings better not limit him to the bootleg check down crap of the first two games. Honestly if you give T.Jack the same playcalling as Frerrote, hopefully he can surprise us on Sunday – and he better throw it away or slide for positive yardage when he’s got pressure, I don’t really want to see T.Jack make throws on a non-bootleg scramble! In Detroit his accuracy seemed amazingly better, let’s hope the same happens in the desert. Also, the running game looks better when T.Jack is in, wonder why? Go Saints!! Tonight on NFL.com watch it!!

He can't hit the deep receiver well yet

But they still need to run that same go-route they did on the Bears on the 1 yard line. The Bears had 8 up front. In their minds, my mind, Al Michaels and John Madden’s minds, everyone in the Metrodome’s mind, it was a guarantee that the Vikings were running on 1st down. With Shiancoe drawing coverage from the lone safety and Tillman expecting safety help, Berrian had about 10 yards of separation once Tillman noticed the safety was covering Shiancoe.

The key is passing the ball on as many first downs as possible. Run the flat passes to AD, screen passes to AD, spread the defense out that will most likely dare the Vikings not to run.

Spread em out

I’d like to see 4 WR sets where the field is spread out and let TJack run wild – Michael Vick style. If he gets hurt, so be it. Throw Booty in there and call it a season.

Yeah!

With the NFL’s leading rusher, the best thing we could do is under utilize him! Let’s pass the ball 40 times a game and punt on third down so we can keep the ball out of AP’s hands! Go Vikes?

16 Games!!!!!

Tavaris Jackson has started 16 games in his NFL career! Sixteen!

He’s gone 8-8. Eight and eight!

The idea that he has sat this long is ridiculous. I don’t know what Childress was looking for out of the position when he made that decision. It couldn’t possibly have been what we’ve seen from G. Frerotte for the past 11 weeks.

We’ve won games, but this season hasn’t been satisfactory. Under Frerotte, the Vikes have 26 passing plays longer than 20 yards, lead the league in Int’s and sacks per attempts.

Gus Frerotte has earned a career in the NFL (I don’t want to do the leg work, but I am almost certain he isn’t a .500 guy), but to suggest that he is a better option at QB than Tavaris Jackson is preposterous.

Anyone who thinks the book is written on the career of a guy who has started 16 games, has won half of them is an idiot; probably shouldn’t be a Vikings fan and really shouldn’t be sharing their opinions in a football forum!

one more thing

without explanation, Childress would go into next season with T Jack as his number one after sitting him for the majority of this season.

Well....

" I don’t know what Childress was looking for out of the position when he made that decision"

He was looking for Wins. And he got them.

Why would you call somebody an idiot!!!!!!!

LoveHate and yes as a coach you look for results, they were obsolete with Tavaris behind center. Everyone has a right to their opinions.

There is

a little bit too much optimism on T-Jack going on right now. TMW said it with the deep receiver comment.

“Trouble is he is very raw.” Not true. So far the trouble is that he doesn’t read down the field very well at all. On the other hand, I love T-Jack’s scrambling abilities and he throws the short routes well and somewhat confidently.

Let’s hold on to our horses a little here. There were plenty of reasons to scream for pulling T-Jack out early this year and last year.

by skiumah06 on Dec 11, 2008 2:33 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

There were absolutely ZERO screams from me about pulling Jackson.

I would also say that Gus has had MORE problems with down field reads as he leads the league in INT’s in 2 1/2 less games then the next guy!

VikeGuru is a doofus!!

Gus

Might still play word is out he took some snaps.

by speedlod on Dec 11, 2008 3:24 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

There may not

have been any screams from you, but I as well as many other Vikes fans were….

Also, as easy as the 99 yard td pass to berrian was, I don’t see Tarvaris making that play. I also don’t see him hitting Shiancoe on the sweet seam routes he runs.

Don’t get me wrong, I hope like crazy that T-Jack tears it up from here on out, but i’m just saying…. he still has tons to prove, let’s not get too excited.

Forget about next season 1 time! When do you stop building and start laying it all out RIGHT NOW!?!?!

This team is loaded with talent… The time is now. Let’s quit taking the Brad Childress, minimize, think-future, lower expectations, make excuses, say things are fine when we could be so much better, etc. mentality and FIND A WAY to win!

BRAD CHILDRESS IS SO LOST… DON’T FOLLOW HIS LEAD!!

THANK YOU

I’m so sick and tired of the catch phrase for Minnesota sports, which is “maybe next year.” That’s always been the problem. No matter who it is, Wild, Twins, Vikings whatever. We get into a race, and about halfway through, we’re already talking about next season!!! And, of course, we fold like a cheap suit. Save that next season crap for after the Super Bowl celebration. I’m asking for everyone to stop talking about next year, please wait until the Vikings are 100% completly finished. And be thankful we’re not the Lions.

Yes, let’s not mention the head coach’s name with “next season” after he takes us to the playoffs. Hopefully. Honestly I don’t think he’s as bad as people are making him out to be. He’s improving it seems. I mean, he said he overcoached Jackson. He’s admitting mistakes now. That’s gotta be promising.
