'09 Draft

I'm not saying we should look forward to it now, we're still in the playoff hunt for certain, but what are your guys' opinions on what we need for the team? Obviously QB was on the charts just a couple weeks ago, but another solid performance by Jackson, I think, removes the need. He played well against the Falcons, slipped out of some would-be sacks, made good decisions downfield, made HUGE plays with his feet, etc.

So, what do the  Vikings need?

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a better wide reciever. No disrespect to our current corps, but another fast, surehanded wide out couldn't hurt us any. We could get O-line as well, I suppose, but its servicable so far and hasn't really hurt us too bad this season.

Secondary maybe? I don't know.

O-Line

Right side, so when Artis Hicks is injured, somebody other than Ryan Cook can play.

Or a nickel back.

Ryan Cook is a disaster at RG. I have raging convultions every time he steps on the field.

we need a qb

jacko played good today. jacko played great last week. last year jacko almost made a miracle comeback in denver which kept him as starter this year. what does he do at the begining of this year? play so poorly that he lost his job to GUS FREROTTE!!!! a couple good games doesn’t mean anything. we need a veteran qb for jacko to learn from. a good veteran, not another hand me down like gus. i would love to see mcnabb or cassel personally. the problem is that chilly will probably be around next year and he has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he can not pick a qb. see thigpen

What was he, 21/33 for 222 yards and 2 TDs? That’s not good? Not to mention the 60+ yards on the ground on only a handful of carries. That’s pretty damn good. You can’t put the loss squarely on his shoulders, he was playing well enough to win.

by Frost on Dec 21, 2008 7:46 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

that is good, why doesn’t anyone want to talk about bernard’s bump up, or adrian’s 3 clutch drops? no let’s all blame childress and jackson, because they want us to lose… really how ridiculous is this?

What up?

Anyone that thinks TJax has been anything but extremely SOLID since returning to the lineup should get TJackedUp!

Interesting

I thought you would coe in and give credit where credit is due, yet after Tjack playing a good game, you still trash him. Not only do you insult the posters here, but you lie as well?

With the protection Tjack was getting near the end there, Frerrotte would have been killed.

I know he played bad in the beginning of the season, but you have to admit he’s done well since he’s been back in the line up. I mean, if he can keep this up through the rest of the season and perhaps the playoffs, then I don’t see any reason to get another QB unless Frerotte retires.

i know cassel is not a veteran

but i would still take him. what about derek anderson? he had a bad year but so have our qb’s

Vikes Need

first round need to target OL or CB.
Second round target WR or OL or DL (need another DT to back-up)
Rest of rounds best available talent with ties going to WR and CB/S

yes i agree with you, thank you for not saying a qb.

What up?

by snakethejake on Dec 21, 2008 7:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well

I wouldn’t be too upset if they take a flyer on somebody in rounds 5-7. Of course that depends on how Booty has looked in practice. Since he would either have to be the back-up or let go if we want to bring on another QB.

Most definitely

You can never have enough linemen, and Benny Sapp just seems to mess up too often.

In AP I trust

This is a very bad draft for QB's

unless a whole lot o’ underclassmen declare that nobody believes will.

besides, T-Jack has played well enough to earn that starters spot.

Biggest Needs are:
1. Starting Calaber Right Tackle.
2. Successor to Winfield.
3. Successor to Kliensausage.
4. Successor to Big Pat
5. BPA

Other then Right Tackle, we don’t need to worry about drafting any immidiate starters, but we do need people with the raw tools to become starters.

can we draft a new HC and OC?

That’s a good point. I forgot about Kleinsasser. Whatever happened to Mills anyways? He’s always a healthy scratch for some reason. I think its a bit early for a replacement to Phat Pat though. He’s still got a few years in the tank, I’m sure.

The Vikings need help...

Everywhere.

I would prioritize Safety and Wide Receiver with O Line and LB’s (backups) in the late rounds.

I would try and bring in J. Garcia as a mentor to Jackson. He is more the type of player fit for this offense. There is no way Cassell is the guy; the Vikes don’t have the personnel to line up in the shotgun and spread formations every down. Are they going to trade their six FB/H-backs/TE’s for six Wide Receivers? Cassell isn’t the type of player for the WC scheme Childress uses! Please stop with that!

by LoveHate on Dec 21, 2008 9:35 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Garcia

Would be great especially if he would come in as a backup. He could teach Tjack alot and since tjack is injury prone we need somebody who can come in and play should he get hurt or become ineffective.

As far as the draft, I think O-line, DBs, and LBs are what we need, a good WR wouldn’t hurt either.

WR!!!

I would really like the vikings to go after a good, SURE handed wide out. I think that having Berrian is real nice, but Sidney really hasn’t shown that he can create separation. I think Bobby is nice at the Slant. I just want a wide out who can get us first downs. I would love a Hines Ward type of receiver, not a burner, but a sure handed wide out, who can run block, and enjoys nothing more than to break the will of the corner he is facing. Speed is less important to me than sure hands, good sound route running, and hard nosed run blocking. A compliment to BB, kind of like a new Cris Carter and Moss (obviously big shoes to fill), you get my just. Eric Decker in the third or fourth round perhaps? (Though I doubt he will be leaving school after this season.)

Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder.
