Pre-Playoff Predictions

Hello fellow Purple People.  The Packers and their suckish ways handed the Bears a win tonight, making the road to a Vikings playoff spot even harder to reach.

The Vikings will clinch with a win over New York or a Chicago loss next week.  For some reason, I don't think Coughlin will be so called "resting".  If I am right then it will make a Vikings win harder to achieve.  Here are some keys to the game:

  1. Annoy the living shit out of Eli Manning.  We need Jared Allen and Kevin Williams to get in there and knock his ass down.  This should wear him down and cause him to be inconsistent.
  2. Shut down Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward.  I don't think Derrick Ward will rush for over 200 yards against the Purple-let's be realistic here.  I do see however the two of them combining for over 100, so we gotta do something to stop them, espescially if we can't get any pressure on Eli.
  3. Create some turnovers for Pete's sake!  If we can pick off Eli Manning once or twice and knock some balls loose then we can keep the Giants from getting any points.
  4. Open the playbook for T-Jack.  This guy still needs to prove to some very unintelligent people that he can be a starting QB in the NFL.
  5. Limit turnovers.  If T-Jack plays as well as he did the last 3 games, he shouldn't be much of a threat to us.  If Peterson fumbles, take him out for a drive or two, perhaps disciplining him would help.  We do have Chester Taylor after all, right?
If we do all these things in a somewhat good way, we will pull out of this shit with a playoff berth and a most important win.  It should result in something like this if we follow these keys:http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recap;_ylt=Aql_EKzlLQqt2CXfVsxQ.D6M2bYF?gid=20071125019
Unless the Bears and Giants change their theme songs to Livin' On a Prayer by Bon Jovi, things will look well for thy Purple People.

I wish I shared your level of optimism

But, to be quite frank, I do not.

I’ve seen this movie too many times before. I know exactly how it ends.

The boys have got to become men sometime...

Either TJ and AP grow up and play or they fold and the Vikes move on through the years and look for people who can

Oh, man. Gonzo Gonzo, you gotta be optimistic here. I know the G-men aren’t resting starters, but when we play well we can hang with the best of teams.

PS: I hate Mason Crosby.

If I drink the Kool-Aid...

…and assume the Vike’s reach the Playoffs (which I think there is about a 60%), the question comes down to this:

Dallas, Tampa, or Philly?

I would hate to face Dallas in the Metrodome, and for some reason am scared of the Eagles. I would prefer the Buccs to win the 6th WC spot. For that to happen, Dallas will need to lose and Tampa win. If Dallas and Tampa both lose, Philly is in. Any other scenario gives us the ’Boys.

If we can somehow manage to beat the Buccs, we travel to Carolina…where my optimism goes way higher. We have already beaten them, and I do not fear their DeAngelo-attack.

After that…well, let’s stop the fantasy. :)

I'd prefer Atlanta again...

is there any way to get them again? I wanna show them something this time!

by mjmrad on Dec 23, 2008 2:27 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Never mind...

ATL is playing St. Louis, so they’re a lock for #5, meaning they’re likely headed to Arizona, unless CAR loses (I’d say ATL is lucky to get either ARI in first round or a bye, provided they take care of biz at home against St. Louis)

Correct...I think

(Boy, the NFL playoffs are complex…)

I think you got it about right. We cannot face the Falcons in the first round, or the second round. In the second round, we must play Carolina, because they locked up the 2nd seed. We cannot face Atlanta until the 3rd round.

Falcons in 2nd round

If Atlanta wins this weekend and Carolina loses, then Atlanta gets the 2 seed and Carolina gets the 5 seed. Then, if we’re the 3 seed and win our wild card game, we get atlanta in the divisional round.

Alright, my bad.

I thought Carolina had locked up that 2 seed. Thanks for the correction.

Bears as wildcard

Chicago is actually ahead of Philly in the wildcard chase. The Bears would also need to lose to Houston for Philly to make it. (I think I’ve go this right)

I would love for the bears to get the wild card so the can come to the dome and get rocked again. It wouldn’t get much better then that

Jared Allen is to football what Jason Voorhees is to Lake Crystal.

Heh that would kick ass.

The only way we can face the Bears is if...

1) The Vikings win
2) The Bears win
3) The Eagles win
4) The Raiders win

At the very least, we can hit Eli Manning enough that Tom Coughlin realizes it might be wise to pull Eli out for the game. Maybe.

Prediction

This is an all-or-nothing game for the vikes. I think that Brad Childress will stun all of us and they’ll run some form of Wildcat w/ Berrian in the backfield. Or maybe Aundrae Alison.

GO VIKES!!!!!!!

How Many Chickens Do You Have?

Sorry, but ready this post got me feeling very uncertain.

All the Vikings have to do is lose to the NFC top-rated Giants and have the Bears beat the hapless Texans (almost a certainty) and were all bitching on here for the next several weeks.

It hurts more if you’re emotionally up. You all should be preparing for relief rather than dejection.

by LoveHate on Dec 23, 2008 9:29 AM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You play to win the game!

Coughlin is going to play to win… however if think that they may downgrade some of their beat up guys, i.e. Tuck, Fred Robbins might go from questionable to doubtful, or probable to questionable… I don’t see him holding back Jacobs. So all the Giants fans will be holding our breath for the Giants’ knees.
I honestly don’t know how good the Vikes are but I was pissed to see Chicago win… (a) their offense sucks, and (b) now the Vikes are going to be playing their hearts out.

You play to win the game!

Their defense sucks too. They couldn’t stop Aaron Rodgers at all.

by Frost on Dec 23, 2008 10:16 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The way it should be.

In a way, I am glad we are not “backing” into the playoffs. Remember, the goal is not to reach the postseason, it is to win the championship. If we settle just for an extra game or two, we are settling for mediocrity. The Vikings need to show that they deserve to be in the playoffs. What better way than to beat the team most consider the best in the NFC. If we cannot win this game, we have only quickened the inevitable. Let the Giants bring their best. I truly believe we have the players to match.

I Agree..

The team needs to go out and take it. Beating the Giants will not only put us in the playoffs but it will send a message to all of the naysayers out there that the Vikings are legit and anybody that faces us in the post season will have a fight on their hands. SKOL!
