Ladies and Gentlemen, We Have Extra Football

It wasn't necessarily pretty, and it wasn't always fun to watch. . .but by God. . .

THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS ARE THE 2008 NFC NORTH DIVISION CHAMPIONS!!

And they earned it by going out and doing what they needed to do.  They didn't "back in," and they didn't wait for Chicago to lose (even though it was pretty nice that they did). . .nope, they won their game, and they got into the post-season.

Celebrate everything right here, and keep an eye on the Eagles and the Cowboys if you can.  Thanks to Chicago's loss to the Texans and Tampa's inexplicable loss to Oakland, our playoff opponent for next weekend is going to be the winner of the game that's going on in Philadelphia right now.

one’s tough. I’d probably lean towards playing Dallas though

Both teams are really tough. I’d love to see the Vikes whoop up on the Cowboys though.

Any time we can "BEAT" on the Cowboys is fine with me...

Cowboys please...

McNabb could pick apart our secondary
We have no one to spy Westbrook adequately
Jim Johnson’s defense would make T-Jack poop his pants
Tony Romo is a big mistake waiting to happen
TO and Roy Williams drop more passes than they catch
THE COWBOYS COACH IS WADE PHILLIPS

Enough said…

i immediatly liked this guy. While I am a little biased as an eagles fan (an try hard not to), those last three made me chuckle

My worst fear

Would be to see Reid own Childress and win the game from the sideline.

that my friend

might never happen. Our fat man has lost a game or two for us. Though on the other hand, Childress has done the same for you

Alright, I have nowhere else to post this so...

I just saw McNabb execute an amazing play where he scrambled, and while scrambling directed Buckhalter to an open spot, and threw a perfect pass to Buckhalter, who then ran an extra 40 yards or so for a huge gain. That is what I hope for Tarvaris to become, someone who can not only scramble, but set up/improvise passes while on the run to create big plays. He can pass for big gains, and he can scramble for big gains, but if he can do both… then he would become a true dual threat at QB.

By the way, I’d rather face the Eagles. The Cowboys might self-destruct, or the star power might play up to it’s potential and win the game. Plus we’d have that mentor(known for his horrible coaching gaffes) vs. pupil(also known for his horrible coaching gaffes) storyline. Although it would be nice to beat down on he Cowboys.

On The Ascent

This team is on the rise and will create havoc in the playoffs.

by purplegrey on Dec 28, 2008 4:07 PM CST reply actions

I'm torn

I want the Eags to win since I’m from Philly and I hate the ‘Boys. But if that’s the case I’ve got two of my favorite teams playing next week.

But if the ’Boys win, I get to watch Romo fail for the third straight time in the playoffs. AND mock my co-worker from Texas.

So… go ’Boys!

Dallas got 8 sacks in a game recently, against a Giants O-line that has been solid this season. I hate to imagine what they could do to our O-line. Give me the Iggles.

by Frost on Dec 28, 2008 4:34 PM CST reply actions

and they got none from the Eagles

while the eagles got to Romo for 5 sacks, 2 FF and an INT. While I truely think T-Jax has a lot more potential then Homo will ever have, he has yet to fully develop. Man, i wish i just didnt jinx us and T-Jax will throw for like 300+ and run for 2 touchdowns.

Wait, I wish I could delete posts. I think Turner beat him out.

No, he did get it. Whoo!

by Frost on Dec 28, 2008 4:37 PM CST up reply actions

Nope

Peterson – 1,760 yards
Turner – 1,699 yards

According to my math, anyway.

Peterson had 1,657 yards coming into today and ran for 103. Turner had 1,491 yards coming into today, and ran for 208.

Just about to post the same thing Gonzo...

We might be in trouble. I really wanted the Cowboys, but…as usual…Romo and Wade Phillips are choking.

Great win over our practice squad today… I will enjoy watching the mediocre Eggles beat you next week

wow!

the eagles scare the crap out of me. of all the weeks to win a game, oakland screwed us out of playing a beat down tampa team. chilly better get his shit together this week. if we come out flat and unprepared like we did against the giants the eagles will trash us. but we are in and anything can happen in the playoffs. SKOL VIKINGS!!!!!!!!

Pass Protection

Childress and Bevell must do a better job scheming the pass protection against the Eagles (they went nuts on Romo).

Two weeks in a row T-Jack has had people in his face all day. They didn’t double the sack leader late last week and allowed Giant defenders free runs right up the middle all day today. Several of TJacks passes/ completions today were under pressure, a couple of which looked horrible.

I expect to see a lot of screen/ draw on any down next week.

The Vikings will need a much better performance up front on both sides of the ball for a playoff win. Go Vikes!

by LoveHate on Dec 28, 2008 6:23 PM CST reply actions

Congratulations, guys

You’re a team I definitely don’t want to have to face again in the playoffs, but I’ll be damned if you didn’t take care of business in a big way.

Best of luck to you!

Eagles It Is

I’m worried about what the Vikes D can do against a scrambling QB. I’d much rather have faced Dallas (as much as I can’t stand Dallas).

Hopefully we’ll have Phat Pat back, and better game planning (HA!!! I can hope, though)

by JasonAve6413 on Dec 28, 2008 7:02 PM CST reply actions

Good Things

1) How stoked am I that we only had 2 penalties today? Very!
2) Before the Childress Prevent Offense came into play – that 3rd and 8 conversion to BB @ the 2 minute warning was H.U.G.E. The “usual” Vikes don’t make that play.

GO VIKES!

by JasonAve6413 on Dec 28, 2008 8:06 PM CST reply actions

Just a thought...

Wasn’t Childress Reid’s offensive coordinator in Philly before coming to the Vikes? I wonder if that will affect the way the game is played at all.

He was…but its a bit of a red herring……Reid has been calling the plays in philly since god knows when if i’m not mistaken. So Chilly’s job was more analyze the opposing D and give suggestions type of a role.

What Reid knows about chilly: he can analyze defenses and attack.
What Chilly knows about Reid: his favorite plays and tendencies

Eagles fan here

I’d have to disagree (I freely admit I am biased here), but the problem is everyone knows Andy Reid’s tendencies. He loves to throw the football. The question is: can your secondary stop us? As for us, we might know some of your offensive tendencies, but I know nothing about your defense.

It’ll be a good game I think.

by ajay on Dec 29, 2008 3:33 PM CST up reply actions

haha

+1. You play Ried and you know to drop 7 back, unless someone took over tha Fat Man’s body and he decides to use our Pro Bowler in the backfield. He has been prone to do that sometimes, mark sometimes

i know that as long as AD takes care of the ball and T-jack takes care of the ball no one will stop us. Mcnabb meet Jared… Hey lets put him on the left side next week because you know they are gonna bootleg like crazy to that side to negate the rush of JA but if he comes out on the side then what

didn’t meet DeMarcus, so hopefully he wont be meeting Jared anytime soon. Though i do believe Jared is the better rusher. Can anyone sneak JA a keg or two please? I will pay
