McNabb
Thanks for starting the string..
The perception (from what I have seen) has been that McNabb is unwanted by the fans in Philly and speculation has turned to the Eagles trading him away at the end of the season to make the switch to Kolb. I have always thought that he is in the top 25% of QB’s in the league so have found this curious. We haven’t had a top flight quarterback for an extended period in my lifetime.
Is this really the case or is it mostly Eagles haters showing their bias? Also, what is your speculation as to his fate next year. I realize that his performance loss next week will have a lot to do with the final outcome but your thoughts nonetheless?
Thanks again!
Norm Green still sucks!

It’s a very small minority, albeit a vocal one, that constantly gripes this and starts these rumors and once it hits the media… well… it must be true then! Most of the real fans understand what McNabb still offers and realize that Kolb isn’t ready/may not be our long term answer. It’s always a horrid perception that pops up every year. Well, honestly, coming into Sunday I thought it was about 85% McNabb was back next year. After the Cowboys rout and reaching the playoffs – 100%.
But T.O. and his sideline histrionics wear on a quarterback. He's like the hot stripper you tried to clean up and convert into a real girlfriend. It's a lot of fun until the moment she has her second drink while out to eat with your parents. You unravel quicker than she does.

I think most Philly fans like McNabb, but the pocket of fans who don’t just are louder than the majority who do. The media still focuses on the fact that he was booed at the draft like ten years ago. If your coming to philly there is a good chance you will get booed eventually, why not get started early. I go back and forth, while some people find that constant smile on his face amusing, it frustrates the hell out of me, especially after he just through his fifth ball at somebody’s feet. Overall, he is an above average quarterback, in my opinion, and most teams would take him over the revolving door they have at the quarterback position. I’m just not sure how much of a fiery leader he is, but that is Dawk’s job anyway. Vikings fans would be lucky to get him, if that happened, you could probably pencil the Vikings in as division champs for the next 3 years, especially in that division.

I Believe
we can make a strong case of being division champs for the next 3 years whether we have him or not.

This question isn't relevant to our game at all on Sunday...
But whatever happened to that receiver who said he didn’t know any of the Patriots’ CBs before media day for Super Bowl 39? And what was his name again, Freddie something, right?
Sorry for the irrelevant question, just trying to lighten the mood around these parts…

But seriously, what was his name again? Its bugging the hell out of me, am I right with the Freddie though?

Freddie Mitchell
Fred-Ex, The People’s Champ
Since we cut him apparently he’s tried out for a bunch of teams and been a substitute teacher. You can’t make that stuff up.

The Dallas Beatdown
Are the Eagles really as good as their Dallas Beatdown would make them appear, or was it just one of the games (like our game at Arizona) where everything just went right and suddenly you’re up by 3 scores? I’m amazed at how many national media types are super high on the Eagles going deep into the playoffs. Should we believe the hype, or will there be more of letdown (see: Vikings vs. Atlanta) than many are predicting?
by biggity2bit on Dec 31, 2008 3:59 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Good question
I doubt the final score of this one is going to be Eagles 44, Vikings 6. A lot has to go right anytime you put up that many points, but our defense has been pretty fantastic lately so the 6 points is not necessarily a surprise.
I think it’s fair to say that this team is playing well right now, having won four out of five games to make the playoffs (I know you’re on a good run too). But our one loss in that span was an ugly, horrid affair in Washington. We reverted back to our pass-happy ways and our offensive was terrible. There definitely could be a letdown of similar proportions, and we have not been a very good road team this year (3-4-1), but I expect a very competitive game overall. In my opinion, the one thing you can’t discount is post-season experience. The Eagles have a lot of it, but the Vikings don’t.

Everything went right for us
and everything went wrong for Dallas. Obviously if we were that good we wouldve been 16-0 and awaiting a ring. However, our defense is THAT GOOD. We have one of the hottest defenses in the league right now.

Clock management
Speaking with my father (who lives in Philly), he says that the Eagles have been spending most of their time-outs often instead of saving them for the end of the half, and McNabb still can’t run a two minute offense. Would you say that’s accurate through watching football this season? Or is it more of the McNabb hate-a-thon?

Generally True
Andy Reid does not manage his timeouts very well (and I read, interestingly enough, that neither is Brad Childress -is that correct? I wonder who he learned that from…). I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen a timeout blown early in the second half, generally on our first offensive possession. And it’s for some stupid reason, somebody lined up improperly, etc.
I’d also say we’re not great in the two-minute offense. I don’t think it has to do with McNabb per se, but rather that Andy and the coaching stuff take forever to call a play. It’s been a problem for years.
Do the rest of the Eagles fans agree with me on this one? Or am I being too harsh?
by ajay on Dec 31, 2008 9:03 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
True on both counts
You are correct that Brad Childress has clock management and time out issues too… and two minute drill execution problems from the sidelines as well. It may get credited to the teacher – pupil thing but it is just as frustrating.

Regardless, thanks for your haphazard attempt anuj… and by haphazard I mean, starting the thread and then not replying in it once…

What's the deal with Westbrook?
I know that he’s been injured, but I have never seen a star player as hot/cold as he’s been this season. After he got hurt, he had several bad games, lights it up for two games, then another bad two games. Guess the question is, is he really back to his old self yet, or could he have an off game?
by keomr on Jan 1, 2009 3:51 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Its more of touchs. Andy can’t make up his mind on whether to feed the ball to westbrook 25-30 times or 10-15. Give Westy enough touchs, he will soon get into a rhytem and break out a long one (as seen in the Giants game), but dont give him enough, and there will not be production (as seen in the following Redskins game). Andy simply needs to get Brian more involved running the ball to see more production. He was hurt early-midway thru the season, but he is 100% now.

Come on, folks
We’re not dealing with Packer fans or Bear fans here. . .or even Giants fans (a couple of whom are, apparently, still talking).
These threads are designed to increase traffic between our brother sites and our own, as well as give us some insight into the opposing team. We’ve got one over at BGN that I haven’t completely kept up with.
There’s really no reason for us to “hate” the Eagles or anything, regardless of how this weekend’s game goes. Let’s try to keep this solely in the realm of football chatter.

I do them for most games
The only games I don’t generally do them for are divisional games, because it’s hard to look at a divisional opponent with any sort of objectivity.
But yeah, it’s nice to get the perspective from the other side.

Is the reputation warranted?
How did Eagles fans get the reputation of being some of the most ruthless and hard to please? I think you are up against some stiff competition with Packer fans. Please take this more as curiosity rather than a jab. (Sometime it’s hard to tell on the internet.)

good question
Packers don’t snowball Santa, Packers love Brett Farve, whether he throws picks or TDs. Eagles fan are ruthless in the Linc (sometimes overruthless). I can’t speak for Packer fans. I can sum it up like this. Michael Strahan once told ESPN that he hated traveling to Philly. Why? It was the only place where he say a 8 year old kid shoot him a birdy and have his father pat him on the back. That DE that retired from the Raiders (just had a blank moment and forgot his name) would never drink anything from Philly hotels. Why? He was always afraid that someone would posion his drink.

Passion + Beer = Stupidity
I think our fans are very passionate and mixing that with alcohol can become “dangerous.” Its certainly not ALL fans, and even the select fans that take part in the moronic behavior dont act like that on a daily basis. The same guy that yells at you on Sunday at the game (shit-faced drunk), can very likely be the same guy that holds an elavator for you on Monday, even if you’re wearing a Giants hat. I dont know too many stories about the “ass hole Eagles fans” that starts in the mall or a grocery store. Most start with, “At this bar i was at…” or “At this weeks game……”

If you can't sell out a playoff game, should you lose the right to have a home game?
by 700 Level on Jan 2, 2009 1:39 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
no thats a very valid question.
I wonder that myself sometimes. I can tell you that i love philly fans… but i also REALLY dispise some of them too. Eagles football is a huge part of my life! But it certainly should never trump life itself, or become such a big deal that it clouds your vision of someone because they’re not a fan of your team. I fall into that sometimes, and realize… holy crap its only football!!!
That being said, i truly believe that the “bad philly fan” thing is a self fulifilling prophecy.
Some people love that mantra, but you’d find that about 80 of Eagles fans are great people who just genuinely love their team to death and just get a bad rap for the other 20 that get ripped at the games and start fights
