No Fine for Ogunleye

Even though Gus hammed it up, Ogunleye's hit was blatantly late. It could not have been blamed on not being able to slow down. Today the league decided not to fine Ogunleye but they did fine Allen for his football CPR.

It's easy to see how Roger Goodell is losing respect among fans. There is something to say about favoritism. Packers get all the breaks this off season with Favre, and we get few breaks. I guess we can just hope for a new commissioner.

I posted this comment over in the ESPN NFC North Blog (God, there are some incredibly annoying Bears and Pack fans over there…) and wanted to cut and paste it over here too.

Yeah, Gus flopped. Sure. But the matter of the fact is that Ogunleye hit the QB numerous seconds after the ball had left his hand, and he lowered his shoulder upon contact.

He didn’t try to step out of the way (which he easily could have done). He didn’t throw his hands up upon contact as if saying, “Oh, crap, sorry.. didn’t mean to run into you there..” (which every other player does in a similar situation). He didn’t show any remorse for his action. And watch it again… as I said before, he LOWERED HIS SHOULDER upon contact. That signifies knowledge of an impending hit and the desire to deliver it.

No matter how not-vicious that hit was, or how crappy Gus’ acting was, it was illegal, should have been flagged, and Ogunleye CERTAINLY should have been fined for it. I absolutely 100% GUARANTEE that if it had been Jared Allen in the exact same situation, 4 flags would have came out and he would have got a $25,000 MINIMUM fine and probably a 1-game suspension because of his “rap sheet” (I forgot, playing hard gets you fined in this league now).

What a joke this is.

Dark and Viking83, you both hit it right on the head. The league must have it’s own kangaroo court in deciding who or what is a fine and/or suspension. There have been hits on QB’s this year that seem like pretty legitimate hit/tackles that have ended up being fines (Adrian Wilson of the Cards hit on Trent Edwards of the Bills). Yeah, Gus played it for all it was worth, but hell yes it was WAY late. So it’s ok because Gus didn’t end up with a concussion?
Then Allen gets fined for using a football for a prop??? Is the league trying to make the Vikings a worse team by hammering them with fines and suspensions so they will end up moving to Los Angeles? Sure smells of a good ‘ole boys network running the show at the league offices to me.
Since I’m on my soapbox about the league and the Vikings, I will throw in how it seems that whenever the Vikes are on a national broadcast, they don’t seem to get equal coverage as the team they are playing. When they played New England on Monday night(at home no less), the pregame had features on Teddy Bruschi and Tom Brady and it was like watching a special about how great NE was, and oh by the way they are playing the Vikings at the Metrodome. And of course the first game of this year against the cheesedicks….it was like a Favre-Rodgers Hall of Fame ceremony….made me want to throw up. I don’t know, it just seems that the league almost gets to decide who is going to win and which teams will be liked and disliked.
The best way to get even with the league would be to just win out and blow through the playoffs and finally win a Super Bowl. It would be great the shove that up the league’s backside!

by AZVikesfan on Dec 5, 2008 5:37 PM CST reply actions

You're not imagining it....

I’ve noticed for several years now that the broadcasters (if you want to call them that) always seem to be rooting against the Purple. It’s bad enough that they almost always get the worst announcers for the games but do they have to be so biased? It’s as if…“Oh, you’re calling the Vikings game this week, don’t forget to hammer them every chance you get!” If the other team goes ahead, it was supposed to be like that. If the Vikings pull ahead, it’s like the other team is making mistakes or just playing poorly. It really gets old after awhile. I agree with you AZVikesfan. The only way to humble those bastards is to run through the playoffs and win the Super Bowl. With the way the league has treated Pat and Kevin, I’d say they have a helluva lot of incentive to do just that.

Heres another thing notice

Go to the Bears, lions,Pack blogs we out blog all 3 of them together and then some. They were all giddy that the Wall was tore down and that their playoff chances increased. Why because for all their bluster they fear the Vikes. And your right they are going to hammer us,but the players know this also.I believe the players going to do a little hammer time of their own.I think the sleeping giant just got awoken no matter what happens in court. If the Wall doesnt get suspended they going to play like maniacs and if they do the other players going to play like maniacs cause their labled not good enough.Either way the fires lit and its going to be a slow burn.

Well, when you can't get it done on your own

The only recourse that you have is to hope that everyone around you falls apart.

I’m not going to say anything bad against my fellow SBNation NFC North blogging brethren, because the guys that run those sites are genuinely good guys. . .but when discussions of the most arrogant sports fans are brought up, I’m honestly surprised that Bear fans and Packer fans aren’t brought up more often.

And, quite frankly, I shouldn’t even lump the Bear fans in there. When the Bears are down, at least their fans tend to get a little quieter. Not the case with Green Bay, where they seem to think that a Super Bowl every year is their damn birthright or something. I can’t begin to tell you how many e-mails I’ve gotten from people the last 2-3 weeks that swear up and down that the Packers are better, more talented, and better coached than Minnesota. . .and that’s pretty ludicrous talk from a team that’s 2 games under .500 and firmly looking up at Minnesota in the division standings.

The worst of it is the kind of stuff you read from the racist losers over at Packer Report or the hive-minded filth at Packers Daily. Talk about delusions of grandeur. . .if you want to see what people living through their team looks like, take the risk of logging on to either of those places. I wouldn’t advise it myself, though. I’d hate to have any stupidity rub off onto my faithful readers.

Many other NFC North fans, however, seem to be under this impression that the Williams boys being out somehow makes THEIR teams better. With the way both of their defenses have performed recently, neither one of them have any “gimmes” left on their schedules. And, yes, I say that realizing that the Packers have a game left against the Lions.

For the Most part

The SBNation has good guys running them I agree,I dont always post at the Sites but I do become a member and peruse.Just noticed on our last Poll here we have like 320 votes, think the highest was 45 on one of theres.Plus on game day we always hit at least 700 hits at the least, which when you combine all 3 we always ahead by at least 500 or more.Either they dont blog or cant watch football and type.Either way just goes to show what a fan base ya got going here Gonzo.Oh and after thought how about we make Norseman a keeper league of a couple players. We are bound to get together next year. With no doubt a few more leagues added.

hmm
.Plus on game day we always hit at least 700 hits at the least, which when you combine all 3 we always ahead by at least 500 or more.

Counting ’aint your strong suit, is it? Or reading? Or math?

WCG got over 800 comments on last weeks game thread and another 170 on the first recap post right after the game was finished. The week before that, there was around 350 comments, but that was during a worthless Rams game. The week before that there was almost 700 comments.

So yea… I would really like to know how 700 comments is at least 500 more than the combination of the Bears, Packers, and Lions blogs get on game days.

Just noticed on our last Poll here we have like 320 votes, think the highest was 45 on one of theres.

The last poll that WCG did has 279 votes. One before that had well over 200 votes.

I think blog wars are stupid, especially when they are about who has more comments. But I think people making $hit up is even more stupid.

But go ahead and keep talking about how you wish you were raped by four women.

Guess thinking aint yours either

“We always hit at least 700”Didnt say thats what we hit.You should have done a little research besides on your own blog. And the rape by 4 women was bascicly a metaphor but guess I gave Bear fans more credit then a Pack fan.I knew that would go over there heads, but figured Bear fans would catch. No worrys,I wont ask ya to use your imagination any more.HMMM who would have thought the Lions had smarter fans then PACK and Bears combined.Hint Big, while your trying figure that one out keep your shoes on,the extra didgets will just confuse you.

Alright genius...
Didnt [sic] say thats [sic] what we hit.You should have done a little research besides [sic] on your own blog.

First, it isn’t my blog. Second, here is a little research, from looking back at the game threads on this site. This season, Daily Norseman has averaged 413 comments per game thread. That, my friend, is nowhere close to 700. Further, you have only been over 700 comments once. In fact, you have only been over 600 comments once. So please… do tell how you “always hit at least 700.”

.And [sic] the rape by 4 women was bascicly [sic] a metaphor

A metaphor? Interesting. But even if it IS a metaphor, you still claimed that 80% of men would like to be raped by 4 women. Which basically means that you are an idiot.
Hint Big [sic] , while your [sic] trying figure that one out keep your shoes on,the [sic] extra didgets [sic] will just confuse you.
What is a didget?

Dont have time to go back and look

But I know that we was over 800 on Da Bears game, believe we was like close to 900 on another.I dont get to see many games. The didget,is real simple its a digit which I broke the tip of last weekend. Now to get to being raped, either your flaming or your stuck with 4 fingers and sister thumb.I have been with 3 women at a time, and though it was willing.Kind of hard to rape a man,he is either willing or he aint. Are you sure your not a closet Pack fan most Bear fans are tongue in cheek.Take blogging for what it is.Sometimes you have to read between the lines, kind of tough for ya.Try reading it with your eyes crossed. That failing get a seeing eye dog.Or better yet when that nice lady in white brings that little container in.Have her read it for ya.Try to enjoy the game today,be honest with ya,ill be rooting for the bears to lose today. But I will root for Bears against Pack.Just the nature of the beast.

I DID go back and look. It took about five minutes.

And yes… the Bears game was a big thread for you all. And it was significantly better than any other game thread that you have had this year. And once again, you said that you "always hit at least 700." Which you completely made up, and it does not resemble anything close to the truth.

This isn’t an opinion. It is a fact.

.Now to get to being raped, either your flaming or your stuck with 4 fingers and sister thumb.

Right… because I don’t want to be raped, I am either “flaming” or “stuck with 4 fingers and sister thumb.” Classy. Of course, the fact that you think that 1) rape is funny, and 2) men can’t be raped, and 3) men want to be raped shows the type of person you are.

The rest of your comment I can’t understand, as I don’t think it was written in English.

Once Again

I went back and took a look ,couldnt even find the Bears game thread. But did find a lot of second half threads with 400 or more posts.Guess we just watch the second half.

2 and 3 there seems to be an oxymoron but we will let it go.

That you keep coming back shows you have way too much time on your hands and that only your view and opinion counts.Which being we are in the USA is your right.Do I care, not really.Try not to take everything in a literal sense, sometimes examples are used and if your going to think on 1 dimension,do so.

heh.
I went back and took a look ,couldnt [sic] even find the Bears game thread.

You couldn’t even find the Bear’s game thread? Really? That was last week – possibly the easiest one to find.

That you keep coming back shows you [sic] have way too much time on your hands and that only your view and opinion counts. [sic]

Does that mean that because you keep responding, only your view and opinion counts? But here is the funny thing… I am not stating an opinion. Giving the number of comments in the game threads here is giving a fact, not a opinion. You should read up on the difference sometime. It would be good for you.

Do I care, not really.

Of course not… you just keep responding, but you don’t care at all. Right.

Try not to take everything in a literal sense,

Then don’t state things in very literal and direct ways.

if your [sic] going to think on 1 dimension,do [sic] so.

In other words, if I want to continue to point out your factual errors, I should feel free to do so. And you can feel free to keep pretending that I am stating opinions.

On top of that

I have been to the site when we went well over 700 posts most games.Today another of them. Its what we do,its not like I went to the blog you post an said you sucked.Stated it here for the Purple not the pink.

You keep coming back because as you said its not your blog. And as far as facts just because you state it doesnt make it a fact.Hence the current problem facing the Nfl atm.Just because you believe it doesnt make it so
And no Big I really dont care,I would fight for your rights to believe whatever you wished, just aint got to agree with it.

To tell the truth this is my last response to you, believe what you wish.I know we avg 700 posts per most games, cause I get to join my fellow fans while they post. And thats all the Facts I need wether you believe it or not.I would fight for your right to disagree no matter who and what you are.

show me

If you really average 700 comments per game thread, show me that. This isn’t a difference of opinion.

And yea… today’s game thread went over 700 comments. That makes two this year.

You are making things up, and I called you on it. And now, because you cannot back up your made-up “facts,” you make more stuff up, and then go on an incoherent rant that kind of looks like it is English, but I am not quite sure.

We have our moments also

Where we have imploded, but when Ogunleye hit Gus,that was it.That was the turning point Gus might be a Bitch but he is our Bitch and no one slaps her around but us.Defense denies 4 attempts to score from the one,Chilly calls a bomb from the one.Statement plays, and it went downhill from there for the bears.Should have thru the flag and let the sleeping giant sleep. Now the League slaps a couple good guys around, lets a love tap go, but throws the stop to give CPR to a dying football.Yea,buddy ya done pissed off a Team and made them a Team, some shit is going to happen, and soon.

by speedlod on Dec 6, 2008 12:42 AM CST up reply actions

NOT FAIR

This is absolutely, positively ridiculous. I don’t mind Allen getting fined $10k for using the ball as a prop – everyone knows you’re not supposed to do that kind of crap.

Benny Sapp deserved the fine for the slap/punch that drew the 15 yarder.

But fines are handed down every week for what look like legitimate, football playing hits. For Ogunleye to NOT get fined for decking Gus…. I’m just befuddled. How can that possibly be?

by JasonAve6413 on Dec 5, 2008 9:59 PM CST reply actions

A thought

Vi King posted on the Star Tribune website, as a comment to this piece, that perhaps the league is not suspending Ogunleye because they are considering a suspension. If this is true, it seems more just, but I still feel we would have heard something about it.

by DarkWalker25 on Dec 5, 2008 10:14 PM CST reply actions

I hope they don’t suspend him for that. It wasn’t THAT bad.

by Frost on Dec 5, 2008 10:21 PM CST up reply actions

That hit

was pretty flaggrent, andto not get a fine is rediculas, but then, when was the last time the commish fined or suspended a packer i wonder. we need to ride Godell out of the NFL before he totaly ruins this sport. prior Commissioners spend years making this league the most even and par league in all of sportsdom. and I feel that that is largely responsible for the breadth of its fans. on any givin sunday, any team can win. and that can’t be said for all sports teams, in all sports leagues.

but this commish seams bound and determined to make the NFL like the MLB, five teams get everything and everyone else gets scraps. When goodell first took over, and started handing out suspensions to misbehaving players, i thought he was just what was needed. someone to clean up the thug behaviors. But then came the brett gate, and then the uncalled for fineing of JA, And then he unsuspended, not once but twice pacman jones so he can play for the other favored son, dallas. finaly he fails to fine Ogunleye for a flagrent late hit on the QB, and tries to suspend our wall only when it could affect our playoff chances but no one elses.

Well, I would say more but my battery is about to die so I will post this and say good night.

Last Packer suspension?

I don’t know. . .do you count the fact that Nick Barnett was supposed to be suspended for the season opener this year but was allowed (by the league) to basically buy his way out of it?

Because if you don’t count that one. . .I don’t know the exact date, but I can assure you that it’s been a while.

Agreed frost

25k should do the trick,QB was in a undefensiable posistion and back peddling, though still believe a little ham up by old Gus.But after the ball is released he shouldnt have been touched, but wait a minute. The League has disclosed it knew the ball was released, but the Ref decided not to the throw a flag on the grounds he could be sued.Ogunleye states it was a love tap,not a late hit.NFL now takes a stand that no late hits are contained in love taps.Memo back in 1901 was sent to all teams concerning this.

by speedlod on Dec 5, 2008 10:34 PM CST reply actions

Complete BS.

How do you fine Jared Allen and not a late hit? I understand the prop thing and i’m sure the punishment is justified, but then, how is it in the same game a late it is over looked? Bad acting or not, i’m starting to wonder myself if this years refs got their licenses’ from a cracker jack box.

This is un-called for and any other North team would be whining and bitching through out the SB nation. We can say what we want about one of our own because there is an understanding, but when someone from the outside tries to harm one of us it’s disgusting and downright a stinky load of BS. Ehh, I’m not sure about that one. I think he probably should have gotten fined if the League wished to play fair, but I don’t think the NFL is just out to get us. that’s a bit of a stretch.
