Never Mind. . .the Vikings Have NOT Increased Their Trade Proposal

Hey, remember last night when I said that the Vikings were throwing their 2009 second-round pick into their trade offer for Jared Allen?

You do?  Aw, crap.

Anyway, our good friend Judd Zulgad at the Star-Tribune is making it sound as though that's not the case.

The Vikings appear willing to send the 17th overall pick, as well as the first of their two third-round selections (No. 73) in this weekend's draft to Kansas City. The Chiefs, though, likely are looking for a first- and second-round selection and also are talking to other interested teams.

This includes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Allen, who had 15 1/2 sacks in 14 games last season, remains tentatively scheduled to visit with that franchise this week. It's possible the Vikings could improve their offer in an attempt to eliminate competitors.

They COULD increase their offer. . .that tells me that they haven't done it yet.

Don't get me wrong, I still think that this is going to get done regardless.  But, in my somewhat biased view, the less the Vikings have to pay, the better.  I have no problem with them throwing in next year's #2 if it gets Allen here, but all other things being equal, #17 and #73 this year are just fine by me.

And remember, folks, tomorrow is the day that Daily Norseman v2.0 will hit the Internet.  The transition will probably happen sometime during the late night/early morning hours, so by the time you wake up in the morning, it's possible that this very website will have a whole new look.  I hope you've started reserving your accounts and learning a little bit about the new platform. . .the guys behind the scenes and I will try able to help you out as best we can.

Have a good evening, folks!

Vikings should sign him
The Vikings should sign him to an offer sheet NOW.    We give up this years first round pick, a DE anyway, and next years first round pick.  This way we are unable to draft another Dimitrius Underwood, Troy Williamson, et all next year all while getting a top defensive player.  Essentially, we would only give up one first round pick for Allen.

A bird in the hand!!! I LOVE our Front Office!!!
A bird in the hand (Jared 15.5 sacks, prime of his career) is worth three in a bush.

How many of the following groups of three players would you rather have if you were a Viking fan or GM?  If you find even 5 groups of three you would rather have than Jared...that would only be a 25% chance of success.  Would you take that chance?  Create 20 pingpong balls. Each one has a list of the three players taken in the draft in spot 17, 73 and 82 the past twenty years.  Place another ping pong ball with Jareds name on it.  Hold that p.pong ball in your hand. Would you rather keep it (it's yours for sure) OR would you rather take your chance on reaching into the bucket and picking out one of the twenty other balls. You would have to prefer TEN of the choices below even to make the trade a 50/50 chance at getting a better deal.

Before we cry about giving up too much and just how shrewd Peterson is, think about what we probably would have got instead....a LOT of hope but probably not much greatness in spots 17, 73 and 82.

There are only five years out of twenty that I would even stop and consider being better than Allen.  Out of those five even as much as I love HUTCH it's still easier to find a very, very good replacement for HUTCH than it is to find a replacement for a Jared.  WOW!  Thank you K.C. (now I know how the Mets felt when they got Santana)!!! This sure feels better than being on the other side.

Way to go Vikings!

K.C. fans...you now have lots of HOPE!  maybe the ping pong balls will give you another Hutchinson or E.Smith or J.Taylor.....enjoy the draft on Saturday....it's a great day of hope.
