Vikings need a STARTING QUARTERBACK badly!

Tavaris Jackson will never be a starting quarterback.  He started poorly in 2007 and he ended poorly in 2007.  I saw no improvement!  If anything he digressed.  His mechanics were an abomination as he kept throwing interceptions with only one foot or no feet on the ground.  He alone is responsible for most of the Vikings losses with is horrible play.  The truth is that he is by far the worst quarterback in the NFL!  He would be lucky to find a job as the third quarterback on another NFL team.

If Brad Childress does nothing to address the STARTING QUARTERBACK situation then the Vikings will again be 8-8 or worse.  Teams know about Adrian Peterson and how wonderful he is.   They know to bring 9 in the box to stop the run.  They know that Tavaris Jackson can not beat them with his horrific play.  There will be no bail outs this year by Peterson.  He needs help and help means a REAL quarterback....not a highschool one!  If Childress sticks with Jackson, they should both be released.  Childress for NOT HAVING A CLUE and Jackson for being THE WORST QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL!

I love the Allen move on the defensive line...but I not have done it.  That move should have been made to get  A QUARTERBACK.  Ask yourself, which position is more important?  Who touches the ball on every offensive play?  Who is the team leader?   Who is responsible for make crucial decisions during the game?  Yes...the quarterback!   If the Vikings had made the same exact trade for McNabb ...the Eagles disgruntled QB...we might me talking Superbowl not another 8-8.  Think about it?   A spread offense with four receivers wide and a passing threat for defenses to worry about.  Add to that, Adrian Peterson, running against a spread defense.  Anyone else agree with me...let me know.

As far as the draft, now that the Vikings have played most of their hand, we must draft for a quarterback.  My suggestion is Booty from USC.  He will be available when the Vikings draft and he is a potential sleeper.   He played in a pro style offense and he is mechanically sound with great accuracy.  His arm may not be the strongest but neither was Joe Montana's.  I feel that Booty could help the Vikings this year if given the chance.

McNabb?

Donovan is a shadow of what he once was. He is NOT the answer. If Brohm is there when our turn comes around, grab him. But he probably won’t help this year. His upside is that he is tailor-made for the west coast offense.

As for you comment that J. Allen DE is not as important as the QB; I disagree. He will (hopefully) pressure the QB so our poor DB’s don’t have to cover for 6 seconds. We also won’t HAVE to blitz as often so LB’s can actually drop back and we can actually play the cover 2. And finally, teams won’t be able to double and triple team K. Williams on a constant basis anymore. His production shall increase. So, although J. Allen doesn’t “touch” the ball every play, his disruptive nature should have a ripple effect on our entire defense. And defenses win championships! At least that’s my opinion.

"Jackson for being THE WORST QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL!"

David Carr.

That said, There’s three things I’m watching for this year to see if T-Jack can make it.

1) Can he stay healthy? Every game T-Jack did not start last year, we lost. That was six games if I recall correctly.

2) Can he avoid the jump pass? Every time I saw that, I winced. He needs to learn that sometimes, it’s okay to take a sack.

3) With competent receivers this year, can he keep the defense honest? The way defenses were able to beat us last year, was by ignoring our passing game entirely. And given our passing choices of Williamson and Shiancoe, I can understand why.

If the answer to all three of those questions is yes, Jackson should stay. And it’s something we won’t find out until the end of the year.

We don’t need to replace either Childress or Jackson right now. Teams take a while to develop under a coach, and QBs need to develop into a system. The Dolphins have had a revolving door for the past several years, and look where it got them. We draft a developmental QB in a late round to grow into our backup QB, and possibly our starter if T-Jack doesn’t work out. And finally, our offense doesn’t need an outstanding QB. It needs a competent one. The QB needs to keep the pressure off of the running game. The rest will work itself out.

Compared to?

After this year, barring injury, I expect Tarvaris to have a more successful season than Leinart, Yong, and Cutler. Even if he’s competitive with his cohort, he was a steal at the end of the second round. For those who didn’t see improvement over his first year, your blind. There were a few ugly moments, to be sure. But there were many games where he looked poised and got the ball efficiently where it was designed to go. In my opinion he throws the nicest ball since Moon. Expect it to start hitting its mark consistently.

Check the Math

1. Vikes last year were 8-4 with T-Jax as a starter.
2. His QB rating would improve quite a bit if Troy and Shiancoe caught the TD passes that I could’ve grabbed.
3. Tarvaris has only played in 16 games. 16 games = 1 yr.
4. Does anyone here think Eli Manning is the best QB in the NFL?

Go back to find Gonzo’s post where he lists the numbers of T-Jack compared to QBs of the same class (Leinhart, Cutler, and Young, I think). T-Jack is right in the middle.

Jackson. Booty......

I think you have to cut Jackson some slack and give him more time to develop…. As far as Booty goes most thought he would be snapped up as a 3rd round pick and a good one at that…getting an accurate, tough QB in the 5th round? Steal
