Trade Chester Taylor?
Does anybody else think that Taylor is too talented for a backup and that we could add real value to the team with an aggressive trade? At best he sits out 50% of snaps. As one of the top five backs in the NFC, we could bring in someone (through the draft or otherwise) at an equal talent level that could play 100% of his downs. I'd also add, I think AD is worse when he has to split his time with Taylor. He's a timing back and thrives off getting a lot of touches over the course of the game.

We have to remember that Peterson could go down with injury at any time. COnsidering how much the KAO is now dependent on the running game, I for one would hate to see Travaris having to be solely depended on to move the chains. Other teams like Dallas are looking to add depth to the RB corps in the draft, because it seems to be a position you can never have enough depth at.
The other side of the coin would be, where would the player we trade for play to get a ton of touches (or downs even). Defensively, the starters are very, very solid. The D line was a little thin with the losses up front, but the addition of Allen now makes it a strength. LB´s are solid, Leber could possibly be upgraded, but it would have to be a significant upgrade in talent, especially with Lebers contract on the books for a couple more years. DB is also a strength, we will see how good they now are, given that they wont be having to spend near the same amount of time in coverage before the QB gets pressured.
Offensively it also seems tricky to slot in a new player. QB is not changing this year, that seems a given (could we get a starter at QB for Taylor anyway?) Wr´s are adequate with the addition of Berrian, with Rice as the #2 and Wade in the slot. OL could use some depth, but would it be wise to try to drop a fresh body into the Zone scheme after the line now has a year together under its belt?
Sure, if someone is offering up a top 15 pick for Taylor, the Vikes would probably be all over it, the likeliness of them getting that value in return is slim to nothing.

we need to keep him. remember last year against oakland when AD went down and he pretty much saved our butt by having an awesome game. we need that. many teams are going for the two back punch and i think we have it perfected right now with our two fantastic backs. HE NEEDS TO STAY A VIKING!

Keep him...
In today’s NFL you have to keep a guy like him on the team; the years of the feature back are past us and the rb by committee continues to grow more and more. It’s a matter of these players taking advantage of their snaps and their chances when presented to them.

No thanks
A half century ago, maybe, but in an NFL where you can play up to 20 games in a season that actually count, you need the second running back to be about as feared as the first. Let’s not tempt those few unscrupulous defenders who seem unconcerned about taking cheap shots to take your best guy out.

I'm convinced
Well, with the draft over, I’m convinced that the window has passed for any productive trade of Chester Taylor. I agree, having two backs has its upside. And, I have no beef whatsoever with Taylor. He’s been great for us. I guess the question I’ve had all off season is whether he’s too good to play second fiddle. I’ve always liked M. Moore, and far earlier in the off-season thought the Vikes might have toyed with keeping Moore as their second string and adding value elsewhere with a Taylor trade. But, now that the team’s solidified, I’m happy to go forward. The most convincing case, I think, was made by Iceland-Viking. I think that with T-Jack’s youth it gives us that extra bit of insurance we need as he develops, a maturation process I, for one, am looking forward to watching.

Never say never
If the right trade opportunity were to present itself, as with any player on the roster, the Vikings would be foolish not to make the move. I just don´t see the Vikes getting enough value for Taylor in return to lose the second solid RB option. If they somehow could swing a Taylor for Peppers deal, if the trading partner had such a crazy need at RB that they would make such a move, of course they make that trade. The only position on defence that I could possibly see an upgrade would be LDE, and on offence WR or T(probably depth not upgrade). So even with potential trading partners willing to give up the farm for a quality RB, there would be very few quality parts that would interest the Vikings in return.
I guess the one thing this points out, how strong the Vikings are at all the starting positions this year, as well as down to the 53rd man.

AD needs CT to be GOOD
Taylor does two things for Peterson. One: he keeps the young superstar from taking to many reps. Two: he beats up opposing defenses so they are worn down.
The success of Adrian Peterson depends on his health. If he can stay fresh, he can run circles around opposing defenses.
The Vikings and Adrian Peterson need Chester Taylor. I could be wrong. I thought they needed Tony Richardson too.
