First, the good news for Vikings fans. The NFL Network has included a Vikings game in a weekly series that will debut Monday and feature 12 classic games from the years 1975-2004.

Now, the (potentially) bad news. The game that has been picked as a Vikings classic is the team’s Dec. 28, 1975 loss to Dallas in the Divisional playoffs at Met Stadium. Longtime Vikings fans simply know this as the “Hail Mary Game.” Many still haven’t gotten over it.

Way back when, Gonzo agreed with me that this was the second-worst loss in state history - and now, we have the horrible chance to relive it again.

To sum up: NOOOOOO!

In my parallel universe!

I will be glued to the television for that one. I remember it well—Staubach drops back and throws a last ditch bomb-forever known as a “Hail Mary” to Drew Pearson who is single covered on the play by Nate Wright. Nate has him tightly covered and as the ball comes down, Pearson pushes off and catches the ball and runs in for the touchdown however, The referee Armen Whatshisname throws the flag for offensive interference! The Vikes get the ball and run out the clock to advance to the championship game against the Rams, who at the time, the Vikes just plain owned. The Vikes win to advance to the Super Bowl against the mighty Steelers and win their one and only Super Bowl!!
Hey, one can dream cant one! And at the very least it woulda saved one giant headache for a guy named Armen Whatshisname!
