Favre to the Vikings Already??
That didn’t take long.
A sports radio station out of Milwaukee, WSSP, is reporting on its website that the Vikings “already have inquired about signing [Brett] Favre, pending his release from the Packers.” (Technically, the Vikings would have had to call the Packers because Favre is under contract to the team.)
While Minnesota certainly could have interest in Favre the problem is that there is no indication the Packers are going to grant Favre his wish and release him. That means the only option for Favre to get to the Vikings would be via a trade and Packers General Manager Ted Thompson isn’t about to deal the future Hall of Fame quarterback to an arch-rival in the same division.

I have loved this team/organization...
But I will immediately stop watching football in any capacity if the Vikings would even consider doing something like this.

Honestly, it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve taken the franchise player from some other team. As I recall, Cris Carter and Cunningham were both from the Eagles and had spent the majority of their career there.
Am I sold on Favre being the catalyst to win the SB? I don’t know yet. It wouldn’t hurt to give him a try at the very least. He’s got the accuracy we need, if he can cut down on turnovers, we’ll be good favorites. That and I want to see Packers fans’ hearts break after their own QB crushes them Monday Night and their team is left in the hands of Briam Brohm.

Carter
began his career in Philly, but definitely spent the vast majority of it with the Vikes.
I wonder if Favre and Sharper get along. They’re ex-teammates.

I recall last season Favre saying he’d be willing to give his left thumb to have Adrian Peterson on his team.

Oops Thank You
I’m so sick of people saying how it would be stupid to sign Favre and that he’s a egomaniac and all this other bullcrap.
Favre is great quarterback and if he played for any team other than the Packers Gonzo and others wouldn’t be so ignorantly opposed to Favre becoming a Viking. Favre is what would put this team over the top.
“That Guy” is a better QB than we’ve seen here well since uh, Tarkenton? and even that’s a maybe. With our stud running game Favre could cut down on the interceptions by not having to carry the team on his back.
All this said I don’t want to get too carried away, I really don’t believe it will happen but I also don’t think there’s a chance in hell that the Pack pays Brett 12 million to sit on the bench. I don’t think he would accept that role and he shouldn’t have to.

At the risk of sounding like a jerk. . .
If Favre is so wonderful, why aren’t the Packers doing backflips over his desire to return? Do you think that Aaron Rodgers has shown them THAT much?
Favre wouldn’t put this team “over the top” and, in fact, it’s a little over the top to suggest that he would. And then WE’D get to put up with all his off-season drama and BS. No thank you. . .let’s let the Packers deal with it.
Oh, and Favre couldn’t lift Fran Tarkenton’s jock strap, let alone carry it.

I wouldn't trade for him
That way we wouldn’t have to deal with all this crap and his 3 years of contract left. I would only want the Vikes to sign him to a 1 year deal, possibly 2 at the most if for some reason he were to get released unconditionally. I think since Favre must realize by now that he will have a tough time deciding when he really should retire he’d be more than willing to sign a 1 year deal.
As Frost said down below it’s because of the PR nightmare this has created. No matter whether you hate Peter King or not read his Monday morning QB column today. He talked directly to Ted Thompson and McCarthy and the Packers had decided to take Favre back in March. Then he flip flopped again. The Packers committed to Rodgers over the summer and now feel they can’t just give him the finger and take Favre back as their starter. However I think they’d be stupid not to. If Rodgers wants to move on to a different team when his contract is up they’ve got another young guy in Brohm to groom as Favres replacement.
Either way, my main points is that I think a lot of people are just heinously against Favre because as Vikings fans we’ve been bread to hate him. I think his egomania and other negatives are being way overblown on this site. I don’t hear any of us complaining about Sharper now that he’s in purple and picking the ball off for us. I don’t think any of us would be complaining when Favre is keeping the defense honest and giving the ball to AP for 50 yard TD runs.
As far as the Tarkenton comment, it’s really damn hard to compare guys from such different eras because of how the game has changed and the level of competition. However Favre has a better overall completion , and TD %, Tarkenton does have a .3 Y/A and is .1 better in INT %. So really and argument could be made either way. Fran also had about twice as many rushing yards so that is a definite factor in any argument. I think they’d both do just fine carrying each others Jocks around but I have no idea why they would want to do that. Gross.

what do you mean by "our"?
“If he played on any team other than the Packers Gonzo and others (Real Viking Fans) wouldn’t be so ignorantly (Correctly) opposed to Favre (Clemens) becoming a Viking”
Yes, you are right. You are right in the sense that a Viking fan would object to his Decade+ long arch nemesis (regardless of his shit personality) becoming our quarterback. I still enjoy rooting for the Vikings, which is one reason I would never be a packer fan…i wouldn’t want to have to root for the Brett Favre’s

Huh?
First off I’m not sure what you’re trying to say by calling Favre Clemens. Is it the painkiller addiction? Very different in my mind. Favre was man enough to admit it to the public and change his ways where as Clemens denies constantly despite so many saying he’s guilty. Either way I’m not going to get into that.
As far as Favre’s Shit personality, are you serious? I don’t know but even as a Vikings fan I can’t really say he has a shit personality. If you can point out some instances of that, I’d be interested. Just making a claim like that and not pointing anything out doesn’t really make a very good point. ‘
At least you’re owning up to the fact that you pretty much don’t want him on the team because he was our arch nemesis for so long. I never saw it that way though, I hated losing to the packers but never once did I hate Favre or really any single player. If they had a guy who played dirty then I would have hated him but seriously, why hate a guy just cause he’s good.
Well, I’m done being a Favre apologist, didn’t realize the hate that ran through purple nation.

...
The Clemens comparison is based solely on the god complex – they treat fans disingenuously by toying with the idea of retirement very publicly. They also deal with it throughout the season, creating media frenzies around their individual selves rather than the team. To further this, Favre has now joined the ranks of the retired/un-retired. We watched him cry about the sport, and if we wanted to watch a little sportscenter before bed, we were forced to watch Favrecenter, and i’m sure he watched too as his career was glorified to the utmost (not unjustifiably, because yes, he has been a phenomenal quarterback over the years, there is no denying that – how great? people do differ in their perception). All this is well and good, if you stay retired. Don’t publicize your “itch” to return to Chris Mortensen after “your” Packers have reached out to you on numerous occasions this offseason (and you chose time and again to stick to your retirement). Make it private, and do it in a timely manner. Favre did neither and has now created a spectacle of himself and his team (but really himself), based on the publics’ undying, boundless adoration that he has created with his past efforts.
This was my main argument regarding his “shit personality,” but yes it goes further. For all the small-town southern charm that this man has (as did Clemens), and for all the Wrangler’s common-man commercials he gets paid millions for, he is just as much the opposite as is possible. The whole appeal that he had in his nonchalant, laid back, country self, is eroded at the core by acting as if he’s above his team, and above his employer. This is a job, this isn’t a circus. When he signed a 10-year contract worth 10+ million a year, there was no get-out-of-my-contract-whenever-I-want clause. The fact that he has been able to galvanize any support is beyond me, when if you look at it as an employer-employee relationship, he lied to his boss, then gathered his One-Man-Union together to bang on the gates.
If flashy, in-your-face T.O. pulled this nonsense, regardless of career accomplishments, you wouldn’t be having any of it. It’s the same way Bonds was splattered in steroid blood, and it took lying under oath, and perhaps even more to turn people against Clemens. That good ol’ boy American white country smile does wonders for deception. Hell, ask George.
And with that, T-Jack year 3, let the glory begin!

Thanks
I see your point but I don’t entirely agree. I guess I don’t see Favre in the same level as Clemens . . . yet. If he were to keep doing this over the next 2 or 3 years then yes I’d start thinking he was a bit of a dick. From what I understand Favre didn’t want to get out of Green Bay until he understood he wouldn’t be the starter, and that’s a bit understandable. A guy who really had one of his better seasons last year sitting on the bench for a guy who’s never made and NFL start in his career? Call me crazy but that seems dumb to me. At the same time the Packers made a commitment to Aaron Rodgers and well I respect them for not turning their back on him. I’d much rather have to face an Aaron Rodgers led Packer team than one with Brett Favre at the helm.
I’m a fan of T-Jack but you can count me as one of the group that would be excited if somehow the Vikes got ahold of Favre. T-Jack is good but put a veteran back there like Favre and I think the Vikings offense ranks at least to 10, possibly to 5. With Tavaris that’s much less likely to happen. The nice thing about Tavaris is that when he does have a horrible game, which he will at some point this year, the fans in the stands can start the best chant ever.

God Complex
It seems like the Packers fans have been deifying him so long that Favre actually believes that the universe DOES revolve around him.
I pity the team that gets stuck with Favre this year.

They aren’t doing backflips because it’s a PR nightmare. They turned the page on him after he said he retired, made it the Rodger’s era. Now he’s come back. They wouldn’t even think about Rodgers being the QB if he hadn’t retired in the first place. He chose too late to return, and now it’s put them in a bind. That’s why they aren’t happy.

Sure, let's bring Favre in...
Yes, let’s get him on our team and make him the official team custodian. He could clean the bathrooms at Winter Park, and down in training camp, and when the big season starts he could bring his trusty pail and mop to the Metrodome and meet some fans face to face on game day.
He is a total Drama-Queen, and we don’t need him. Let him go to Baltimore (where the Packers would actually let him go – the AFC) and get destroyed by the Colts/Pats/Chargers/Browns/Giants.
There are a lot of sneaky good things working for T-Jack, and frankly I am excited for him. He will have a better receiving corp – with Berrian and then Rice coming into his 2nd year, and has more starts under his own belt, this being really his “2nd” year, and he is a smart kid with a great arm.
Knowing the system, knowing the coaches, the calls, the check downs…having a true deep threat that can actually catch the ball, and of course, all the other team’s game-planning the whole off-season around our RUNNING game…
T-Jack is going to surprise a lot of people, just not me.
We may not win it all this year, but I think we will be in the high end mix over the next 2-3 years, and then who knows…!?

I'm opposed to trading away too much for him
...but if the Vikings didn’t need to give up much to get him, then I’d be all for it.
The Vikes already rolled those dice to get Jared Allen this year. Berrian was a great FA pick-up, too. Most or all of the pieces are in place for this team to make a serious run at a championship.
I know some are drinking the purple Kool-Aid regarding Tarvaris Jackson. Sure, there are some real reasons to think he could improve this year, but none of that means that we should expect him to be as good as or better than “That Guy”. No way! Even the eternal optimist can’t go that far, and neither can T-Jack. All of T-Jack’s potential will still be there whenever “That Guy” retires for real.
Yeah, it’s tough to see “That Guy” in a good light after being an arch-enemy for too many years. Even if some of us are not over that when a deal is made, won’t all of us be able to move on after defeating the Packers on Opening Day with their ex-QB or again later in the year or again when the Vikes go to the playoffs while the Packers stay in Mr. Rodgers’ neighborhood? If not, then you weren’t a real Vikings fan anyway.

It doesn’t transform into Skol-Aid until the team scores “That Guy” or T-Jack leads the team to the playoffs.
