Slingbox?
I live in Chicago and don't have cable TV and would love nothing more than to catch all the Viking games this season. I'm toying with the idea of buying a Slingbox and having my Dad send the games to my computer from his television in the Twin Cities. Does anyone have any experience with the Slingbox? Reception? It seems like a slick workaround without having to pay big prices for the NFL bundle.

Well I don't know much about sling boxes
except that they are expensive. However, I am a fellow Vikings fan in the Chicago area! We should catch a few games! Gotta stick together down here in bears country.

I've heard good things about Slingbox
So much so that if I ever end up deploying to somewhere for a year after I’m done with my assignment here, it’s going to be my first purchase.
It seems like a pretty good deal. I don’t know how it works as far as changing the channels or anything, but I’m sure it would be fine.

Your forecast
Here Gonzo, let me help.
“It will be hot. I mean really, really hot! It is a relatively dry heat though with next to no humidity with only the occasional sand storm.”
That should cover it for about 90% of your forecasts if you deploy. I can change that if you are lucky enough to get sent to the ice for an Antarctic summer. It is the same thing, except change hot to cold and sand to snow.
I’m here for you Buddy.
It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a Viking to raze a village.

Well, actually. . .
I was going to shoot for Soto Cano, Honduras. Antarctica might be interesting, but I thought that was only a Reserve or Guard slot. . .might just be for my career field, I don’t know.
I don’t mind going anywhere. . .but I’d hate to have to give up the site or something if I was gone for a year. AFN and a Slingbox should be enough to get me by in most places, I would think.

Yeah, my understanding is that you hook it up to your TV and you can get any station on your computer (anywhere in the world) that you get on your home television. As for cost, as cruton647 mentioned, it is expensive, but a lot less expensive than it would be to buy a bundle through NFL, or (in my case) to catch all the non-Bears, non-Primetime games at a bar.

One of my co-workers uses Sopcast to watch his Cowboys when they’re not on TV. You might want to give that a shot if your using a LCD TV.

Tried The Slingbox
When I was in an isolated location, I bought the slingbox for my friend in MN. I borrowed a projector and put the games up on the wall – it was pretty cool, but I believe my internet connection sucked so it was jerky, the video often lagged behind the sound, and it was frustrating.
The one catch with the setup I had was that I had to watch what they were watching. Since my buddy has 3 kids, sometimes the channel would change when a kid got ahold of the remote. Sometimes I checked in during a non-game and returned the favor. :)
Overall, very cool idea but even when I had a decent connection the picture was still a little fuzzy.
