What's the Real Deal on Rodgers?

Can anyone give an impartial view of Rodgers? I'm more than happy to bash him and believe the Vike blogs trashing him, but obviously the coaches over there think he's good enough to win for them.

However, the Vikes' coaches have plenty of dissent from fans about T-Jack. So what's the real deal on Rodgers? Does he have the potential to really excel and surprise a LOT of people, or is he like Grossman and Orton - damn impressive in a pick-up game, but not worth much in the NFL?

This FanPost was created by a registered user of The Daily Norseman, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the staff of the site. However, since this is a community, that view is no less important.

Nobody knows...

The kid has been hype hype hyped up. A ton. And you haven’t seen much of him on the field. Like not even a full game. Not only that, but I’m sure the Packers also get their share of dissent about Rodgers. Especially when Favre is traded and Rodgers loses a couple games in a row, management will hear about it.

People are judging him entirely too early, to be honest. He hasn’t even played a full game against a starting defense. He came in when Favre was hurt and games were out of reach. He’s fragile. Those are just about all the facts anyone knows about him so far.

Still a rookie

He could be good, bad, or average. He’s never been tested. I think physically and mentally he is relatively solid. He has more experience than your typical rookie starter, so I think the boneheaded plays and misreads will be lower than your average guy. But he has never faced a true defense in a full game when it is close. The Vikings, with solid defense and almost guaranteed strong pass rush, should really test him early on. Man, if that game was in the Metrodome I’d be surprised if he didn’t absolutely crumble.

The biggest knock on him so far is that he seems very fragile. He’s been hurt a lot for a guy that hasn’t been hit much. He’s been hurt in practice and limited game experience. Sometimes that is just bad luck and it goes away. Then again, some people just don’t have the body or know how to fall the right way and they get hurt a lot.

One thing is for sure. If he goes down early, the Packers season goes down early. Their talent is in spread passing and with a true rookie QB in Brohm there is just no way they’d be real competitive. I hope the Vikes injure him in Lambeau to be honest. Not career ending or anything, just a season. That way my dream of Culpepper playing in the Metrodome wearing green would become a distinct possibility…

College success vs. NFL success

Roger’s Head Coach at Cal (Jeff Tedford) was the same head coach of Trent Dilfer, Akili Smith, Kyle Boller, and Joey Harrington. All first round picks, all busts.

Apparently

Rodgers was absolute trash in the team scrimmage during the Packers training camp. Like he threw 8 or 9 straight incompletions and was boo’ed. I don’t think Jackson’s thrown that many incompletes straight in a row ever.
