The Vikings finally got off of the schnide last week against a pretty good Panthers team at the Metrodome. The team they'll face today, the Tennessee Titans, resembles that Panther team a little bit, as well as the Vikings themselves.
The Titans want to try to grind things out on the ground with a pair of very good running backs, and they have the sort of "thunder and lightning" combination that the Panthers did. LenDale White is the power guy for the Titans, while rookie Chris Johnson does the speed work. Johnson's had a few spectacular runs already this season, and the Vikings will have to know where he is.
The Titans also, like the Vikings, have made a recent switch to an aging quarterback, as they replaced the injured (and largely ineffective) Vince Young with long-time Viking nemesis Kerry Collins. At this point in their careers, Collins is basically the same quarterback as our own Gus Frerotte. They're not going to wow anybody, particularly with the groups of receivers they're working with, but they can more often than not manage a game effectively and get the job that needs to be done accomplished.
These are two very good, very talented, smashmouth football teams. A blowout in either direction would come as a huge surprise, as far as I'm concerned, and I think we're going to see a low-scoring, hard-fought battle in this one. Here's hoping that the Vikings can weather the storm without LT Bryant McKinnie for one more week and make it through the hardest stretch of their schedule at 2-2 before making a Monday Night trip to New Orleans next week.
SKOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL VIKINGS!!!!
Oh, and feel free to bounce back and forth between here and our friends at Twinkie Town this afternoon as well, as the Twins attempt to capture their fifth AL Central title in the last seven years. A Twins win and a White Sox loss today gives the Twins the division. . .any other scenario will require the Bitch White Sox to play a make-up game against the Detroit Tigers on Monday, (potentially) followed by a one-game playoff against the Twins at U.S. Cellular Field on Tuesday. First pitch for both games is right around 1 PM Central time. Should put it right around the start of the second quarter.

DT Kevin Vickerson
WR Paul Williams
Minnesota
QB John David Booty (#3 QB)
LB Vinny Ciurciu

This is Tapeh’s second consecutive healthy scratch. Good to see we’re getting our money’s worth there.
Edwards is out with a shoulder injury, and Otis Grigsby is going to get the start in his place. Brian Robison should also see a bump up in his playing time.
Letroy Guion is active today for the first time. Wonder if he’ll see any action.

If you're looking for something to make you feel good...
Switch to the TB/GB game real quick – TB is in the red zone
Dang!
Gus had Shiancoe down the seam, but #81 would have had to be 8 feet tall to catch the pass.
We are driving, though. . .big 3rd down coming up here.

Oh, are you kidding?
Vanden Bosch goes low and cheap on Frerotte.
What a punk.

Rally Breath
Everyone got your Brenavin shots ready?
Worked last week :p
TOUCHDOWN, VIKINGS!!
After the Vanden Bosch cheap shot, the Vikings get a fresh set of downs, and Peterson carries it in from 3 yards out.
Extra point from Longwell, and we’ve got a one-score game agaim.
Drive went 79 yards in 11 plays, taking 4:13 off the clock.
Titans 23, Vikings 17, 6:00 left in the game.

Play Calling
So – anyone want to 2nd guess the play calling on that series?
Not exactly insightful to blame the coach when your veteran players keep coughing up the ball in your own red zone.
Crap. Big return.
That’s crappy.

Well, if Gus is the guy, this is where we need him.

I don't think we can ask for anything more
than to have a chance to drive down the field 98 yards to win the game. LET’S GO!!!
Score update
Bucs 30, Packers 21, pretty much over
Twins 2, Royals 0, bottom 6th
White Sox 5, Indians 1, bottom 7th

I was wrong
I guess we could have asked for something more….like not losing that timeout
Why'd we use the last time out?
What’s half the distance. . .a yard?

Like a challenge
They wanted to try the 2 minute challenge on MAdden mode instead of just allstar

Gotta admit. . .Nick Harper was wide open there.

So to answer the question
I guess Ferotte isn’t the answer?
So what does that mean now?
Surely I mean it means something? Childress needs to be held accountable.
Childress needs to be under very tight scrutiny
I’d rather get the rebuilding process started now, rather than wait until January. Why leave him as a lame duck for 3/4 of a season?
Ball Game
Frerotte throws an interception, and the Titans turn it into a Chris Johnson TD run on the next play.
30-17, Titans.
Frerotte is going to the locker room.
It just keeps getting better.

Jackson in at QB
We’ll see if we actually throw the ball.

Deep game analysis
I suspect the three turnovers that directly resulted in three touchdowns may have hurt our chances of winning this game.
Holy white flag, Batman
Did we REALLY just punt the ball away, down two scores with no time outs?
For the love of. . .Brad Childress should be fired before the Vikings leave the visiting locker room tonight.

Punt???
Well, there’s that prevent offense
This post would be better if I wasn't screwed by the refs!
Uhhhhh noooo seriously...
Is this a joke or something? Because I just don’t get it. What the fuck is going on with shit?
NOt Punting!!!!!
Fire Childress…he doesn’t even understand that we need to score
Punt
Given the way the offense is playing, maybe there’s a better chance of scoring from the D forcing a fumble.
Do you guys get that we were down 13 points on 4th and 13 of our own 25th yard line?
What magic play would you have called?
Not one that
gave us absolutely NOOOOO chance of coming back. I guess losing graciously is better than attempting to try?
It's not a matter of what play to call
It’s a matter of you going into the fetal position and sucking your thumb in that spot.
That’s exactly what Childress made his offense do.

Worst coached offense in the league...
Despite the best one two rb combo, this is the worst offense in the league, it stinks
Silver Lining
Hey, if you told me we’d be one 1/2 games out of first after the brutal first 1/4 of the season I’d take it.
This post would be better if I wasn't screwed by the refs!
What a waste...
That AP’s talents are being squandered under this offense is criminal…Brad Childress, go directly to jail, do not pass go, and no get out of jail free card…you must be fired immediately
Over to Twinkie Town for now!
White Sox lead Cleveland 5-1 going to the top of the 9th.
Twins lead the Royals 2-0 in the bottom of the 7th. Twins have runners on first and second with nobody out for Morneau.
