QB options in '09

hey there vikings fans, QB has always been a problem for this team and even when we do have a good one they get hurt (culpepper)

im not sold on gus frerotte as a starting QB for this team for next year, in house replacements taravis jackson has had his chance and didnt come through, i think that john david booty would thrive in this offense since it is almost the same offense he played with in college at USC and he was successful there and he didnt have AP.

there are some options in the draft,FA and trades that i would be interested in for next year

through the draft: tim tebow, chase daniels, matthew stafford

i think that all 3 would be good QB for the vikings tebow is a good scramler, daniels is a good pocket passer and stafford is also a good one as well

through FA: matt cassel, kurt warner, michael vick?

ok before everyone jumps all over me for mentioning michael vick, let me explain myself about that one, what he did was absolutely stupid and digusting, but he was messed up with drugs and his past gang life and he has served his time and seems to be a changed man and if he still has his wheels and he still has a decent arm i would take the chance on him. matt cassel could just "manage" the offense good enough for this team to be successful and kurt warner still is a good QB at age 37.

through trade: brady quinn, billy volek, chris redman, troy smith, colt brennan (i wish!)

if the brown are sold on derek anderson as their future QB then i think that they will trade brady quinn, volek has a solid arm, redman was good for the falcons last year, troy smith is small but is quick on his feet and has a good arm, he has always been a favorite player of mine even though he played for OSU and my favorite college football player ever COLT BRENNAN! man i wish that we drafted him instead of JD booty, colt doesnt have the strongest arm but he is smart with it, he isnt just a system QB like some people might label him, i really think that he is the real deal and some team will take a chance on him and the rewards will be great and i hope that team is the vikings, for those bashers of colt, the sugar bowl wasnt his fault, it was worse than the patriots in the super bowl, he had no time to throw and he was sick during the combine and the senior bowl, also remember this preseason against the colts? that is the qb colt is and is going to be in the NFL

nope

Shouldnt Vick have atleast a year’s suspension ahead of him?

And what rhymes with Tebow? Hell No! He’s a good college QB, but I don’t see a whole lot going on there in the NFL..

If any of these are a possibility, i’d say maybe and maybe Derek Anderson, just because it seems like he’s going to get replaced by Quinn one of these days and he’s too pricey of a back-up.

What up?

with the exception of Chase Daniels...

this team would suck just as bad…..

all the FA’s you list are crap…

any rookie taken in the draft is at least a year away, even if he is baptized by fire ala Joe Flacco or Matt Ryan…hell, I’d be tickled to have either of them….

Mike Vick….yeah, just what any team needs

we’re in for several years of average QB play, and records hovering around .500

Ego Boy Brad missed his chance when he didn’t even glance at Chad Pennington…

Yeah, I thought for sure we’d have at least worked him out. Sure, he doesn’t have the arm strength, but that doesn’t matter. Berrian’s not catching the long strikes thrown his way anyways.

I don’t know much about staffordf or Daniels, but Tim Tebow, I know, is a system quarterback. College is alot different than the NFL. As for the free agents, Cassel isn’t wowing anyone in New England, and that’s with Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Warner is getting old in years, we’d end up replacing him after the season probably, and Vick isn’t going to be playing in the NFL. Except for maybe the Bengals. (ahah I had to take that shot)

Redman shouldn’t be starting in the league. Smith, we saw how good he was in the preseason game, Volek is only getting older riding that pine. There’s no way we get Quinn from the Browns. He’s their future. And Colt Brennan… I don’t understand your fascination with him. Yeah, he looked good in the preseason game, but he’s not starting for a reason. I really wanted to bring in Losman, maybe he can still be brought in, but I doubt it.

At this point, it just feels like, even if we had Tom Brady, we’d find a way to lose our games.

Tim Tebow is a college system quarterback. I wouldnt touch him with a ten foot pole in the NFL. The college quarterbacks I would want to draft in order: Chase Daniels. Matt Stafford, Graham Harrell, and Chase Holbrook. Then maybe Pat White but only if I was forced into it. Mobile QBs maybe great for madden but in the NFL an intelligent, strong armed QB Pocket Passer will always take you farther – thats why White and Tebow wont be NFL stars.

Colt Brennan is decent and right now i’d take him but I wouldnt bet the farm on him.

Derek Anderson would be alright also. I could live with getting him in a trade or FA.

Losman – heck no. Same with Michael Vick. Buyer Beware.

Overlooking Michael Vick...

Obviously the falcons wouldn’t be interested in taking Michael Vick back. When this all happen ESPN analyst said he could maybe come back one day as a wideout because of his arm but i would hands down in a second take Michael Vick. Whats he gonna do? DOG FIGHT AGAIN?! lol Could you imagine him and AP! It’d be like high school football. Running the option =D i think it’d be really cool!

Yes

thats probably exactly what he would do. that dog fighting thing was not a one time thing that he just got cought up in. it was something that he orginized because he liked it. That is pattern behavior, and people like that rarely change for the better.

So definet no to vick. most of the Free agents don’t really inspire me as true franchise QB’s and the QB’s in the draft, while there is talant there, few look ready to step right in.

My 2 cents

Tim Tebow is no option. The guys he’d have to play against in the NFL are too big for him to run over like College ball…and have you ever watch him throwing a ball? People slam Jackson’s throwing but praise Tebow? Duck hunting season starts in Florida when this idiot steps on the field.

Matt Stafford is an interesting option out of Georgia but I don’t think he can step in next year.

I’d still like to see a stat on the number of dropped balls by the Vikings butter fingered receivers…especially after a stat was thrown up in the Green Bay game about TJack only completing 20% of passes outside the pocket. I wouldn’t but all of those incompletions on him.

At this point I think it might be time for a “Booty call”. What do we have to lose??? Frerotte wasn’t great in either of his starts and Tjack’s confidence is shot.

We’d lose even worse than normal. Booty is not ready. At all. He threw too soft in the preseason and I’m pretty sure he had 1-2 picks a game. Against 3rd stringers mostly. I don’t even want to imagine him starting this season. Yuck.

I think there is more potential there than people are giving him credit for. When you have the pathetic play calling that he has been exposed to and the number of dropped balls and missed routes by the receivers even Tom Brady would look bad out there. I’m not saying he would develop into Brady but he is better than what we are seeing out there.
