Coaching Situation
So...let me get this straight.
Jon Gruden has won a Super Bowl.
Mike Shanahan has won two Super Bowls.
Bill Cowher has won a Super Bowl.
They're all avaliable, and in "F YOU former franchise" mode, so they want to kick some ass. But we're gonna stick with Chili? I think I want to vomit.
This is like a porn star walking up to you and asking if she can "practice" on you, but we're gonna say "No I'm married to a frigid, asexual control freak...I'm good."
PLEASE ZYGI...DITCH THE FAKER FOR A REAL COACH!!!

Mark Wilf says we are sticking with Chilly.
For some reason I doubt we would lie.

Childress is a mess ! Confidence is shot and it shows n the sidleine and in crunch time. He coaches Not To Lose. Any of those would make Vikes instant contender because they bring the belief that they can win !

I think Childress’ style can be better described as coaching “not to lose too badly”. He doesn’t seem to be too dismayed by losing, but he’ll kick a FG to pull within 10 points rather than try to win. That kind of coaching irks me something awful.

Mutleyil, sounds like you have some wife issues
But I like the way you think on the HC situation.
Unfortunately, Childress is under contract for two more seasons and from what the Wilfs say, they are at least satisfied with the progress he’s making, even if most of us aren’t.
The trend in the NFL is to hire these nobody DB coaches and coordinators. I guess they’re less expensive or something. Otherwise, why go with the unknown if you don’t have to, when you could have a proven winner?

Why it's good to hire "nobody DB coaches and coordinators"
Tony Dungy might be the best HC not named Belichick in the past 10 or so years. He was hired by TB when he was the Vikings’ D-coordinator, and has moved on to build 2 Super Bowl Championship teams.
It will be interesting to see how Mike Tomlin’s Steelers do in the next few years. Even if they win the SB this year, it’s mostly Cowher’s team.
What are the standards for a proven winner, anyway? Jim Haslett led the Saints to the playoffs, but didn’t replicate that success as a coordinator and interim HC for the Rams. Joe Gibbs and Denny Green were considered proven winners at one time, but probably aren’t now. Unless some organization can coax Dick Vermeil out of retirement again, I can’t think of many readily available proven winners.

CAn you imagine Cowher on the sidlelines with that im gonna put my chinin your butt look ! There would be no more party boats no more questionable supplements just go and play football till you dit atitude ! Chucky and Shanahan would bring a more vast playbook and some intensity as well….why would you not hire one? SB=new stadium=more money….if thats whats holding them back. I mean what progress has Chili shown? they have talent, a terrific D and the best RB in football. Chili is the bonhead that thought Jackson was McnAbb Junior…wait maybe he is does McNabb have a ring? or are we just going for second place?

Maybe Cowher or none of these
Cowher is a great coach, and Shanahan is not far behind. Yes, all 3 have won Super Bowls, but Cowher was the only one of the group who won it as the architect of the team (Shanahan inherited Elway, who seems to have been the most important player). KC fans want Cowher to succeed Herman Edwards, and since Cowher’s coaching career began in KC, that could be likely. As much as I like him, I think the Vikings organization requires an offensive-minded head coach.
Gruden had built the SB losing Raiders, and that had to be an advantage while leading Tony Dungy’s team past his old one to win the Championship. How have the Bucs been since then? He was supposed to have had similar strengths as Childress (offensive-minded, QB guru), but the Bucs have been unspectacular offensively and Gruden did not develop a QB there. I also have to think that the nose-wrinkling, posturing, and bravado would get really old after more than a season or two from the players’ perspectives.
Shanahan is a great coach, but I doubt that he will give up the amount of power he had in Denver. In some ways, he would be a great fit in MN if Frazier had control of defensive personnel, but I doubt that would really work. He’s best suited to start from scratch somewhere else.
