Championship Sunday Open Thread

Sorry in getting this up here a bit late. . .the Cardinals have already taken a quick 7-0 lead over the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game with 9:20 left in the first quarter, and the Ravens/Steelers game will be kicking off at approximately 5:30 PM Central time.

The Cardinals' score came on a 9-yard TD pass from Kurt Warner to. . .who else. . .Larry Fitzgerald.  Drive covered 80 yards in 9 plays, taking 5:40 to accomplish.

Discuss it all here!

Lucky play for the Eagles

Interception by Aaron Francisco, who gets chased down by DeSean Jackson and coughs it up, and the Eagles fall back on top of it.

That could have been a huge momentum shift.

As a Viking fan...

I’m torn who to cheer for, or rather, cheer against, in the NFC title game. Philadelphia just won a World Series, and their fans are ass-hats of the first order.

The Cardinals, as we all know, have never before been within sight of a Super Bowl, and in theory that should make them more appealing. As a Viking fan, though, I am unsure about the idea of the Cardinals making a Super Bowl before I see the Vikings do so. (I am too young to remember any of the Minnesota Super Bowl trips, which is probably just as well.) With the Cards up 14-3 at this point, it is not an abstract concern.

The Rams, Bucs, Seahawks, Panthers, and Chargers all making it to the Super Bowl before the Vikings make it back…now the Cardinals, possibly? As long as the Lions, Browns, and Saints don’t get there before the Vikings…

I am sure, given the classy nature of Iggles fans, that they won’t turn on McNabb if he continues to play like this.

by MidnightRambler on Jan 18, 2009 2:58 PM CST reply actions

once again joe buck states the obvious…mcnabb has a tendency to be a little erratic at times

Intentional Grounding

I wonder if McNabb will try to argue that he only threw the ball fifteen yards from an eligible receiver because his arm was held, like he did last week. He did lobby for roughing the passer as soon as he threw the ball.

re: helmet-to-helmet

apparently only if the defender is a Viking. Remeber one of ours, this season, getting a 15-yarder (and a fine, if i remember right) when AFTER THE SHOULDERS CONTACTED, THEIR HELMETS DID. on today’s hit, the FIRST CONTACT was helmet-to-helmet. But, of course, there is no favoritism in the nfl.
