Championship Sunday Open Thread
Sorry in getting this up here a bit late. . .the Cardinals have already taken a quick 7-0 lead over the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game with 9:20 left in the first quarter, and the Ravens/Steelers game will be kicking off at approximately 5:30 PM Central time.
The Cardinals' score came on a 9-yard TD pass from Kurt Warner to. . .who else. . .Larry Fitzgerald. Drive covered 80 yards in 9 plays, taking 5:40 to accomplish.
Discuss it all here!

Lucky play for the Eagles
Interception by Aaron Francisco, who gets chased down by DeSean Jackson and coughs it up, and the Eagles fall back on top of it.
That could have been a huge momentum shift.

As a Viking fan...
I’m torn who to cheer for, or rather, cheer against, in the NFC title game. Philadelphia just won a World Series, and their fans are ass-hats of the first order.
The Cardinals, as we all know, have never before been within sight of a Super Bowl, and in theory that should make them more appealing. As a Viking fan, though, I am unsure about the idea of the Cardinals making a Super Bowl before I see the Vikings do so. (I am too young to remember any of the Minnesota Super Bowl trips, which is probably just as well.) With the Cards up 14-3 at this point, it is not an abstract concern.
The Rams, Bucs, Seahawks, Panthers, and Chargers all making it to the Super Bowl before the Vikings make it back…now the Cardinals, possibly? As long as the Lions, Browns, and Saints don’t get there before the Vikings…

Philly Fans
I am sure, given the classy nature of Iggles fans, that they won’t turn on McNabb if he continues to play like this.

I'm sure the Cardinals would be quite happy
To trade touchdowns for field goals all afternoon.
14-6, Cardinals, 9:02 left in the first half.

What?
What did Joe Buck just say about Matt Birk?
It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a Viking to raze a village.
That ball wasn't out of bounds
The Cardinals can look to put the dagger in here, I think, because it should be their ball.

Not reviewable?
Wow. . .to quote Harry Doyle, “Personally, I think the Cards got hosed on that one.”

I don't know what McNabb is complaining about
There wasn’t a white jersey within 15 yards of that pass.

Intentional Grounding
I wonder if McNabb will try to argue that he only threw the ball fifteen yards from an eligible receiver because his arm was held, like he did last week. He did lobby for roughing the passer as soon as he threw the ball.

Incomplete
If that “catch” by Boldin is allowed to stand, this game is over—the Cards are obviously meant to win.

Personal Foul
If I’m Warner, I thank Demps (or whoever it was) for that late hit.

Why the hell
Would you blitz on third and long like that when Cardinals receivers have been carving up your secondary all day long?

MAYN HOL UP!
This is ugly
I was really rooting for the Eagles because if the Vikings were going to lose, I would prefer it to be the eventual NFC champion. Plus, I hate Kurt Warner and really don’t want to see him in another SB. But its the Eagles look like shit and I don’t think they can come back from this.
On the other hand
If this score holds up, it will be the second consecutive year that the Vikings absolutely destroyed the NFC Super Bowl representative in the regular season.

That's a start
I hope they can get another score before Arizona so the game can stay interesting for the 4th.
I had Arizona +4
And the over (47) on another message board I post on.
So I could stand to see another 11 points, yes. (-:

Let’s not crown Arizona’s asses quite yet.

Wow
Excellent, we have a game. It’ll be interesting to see if the Eagles defense keeps up with what they did in the third quarter.
Also, fuck me but Akers blows today. Wow.
Warner channels his inner Brad Johnson
Very nice.

Huh
Don’t see that too often, though Warner was unable to channel his inner Brad John….. damit Gonzo, I was typing that when yours went up.
12:30 Drive
12+ minute TD drive for the Eagles
I get my wish to not see Warner in the SB
Vikings get beat in the first round by the eventual NFC Champs
Gonzo covers the spread (but misses on the Cards +4, sorry man)
That’s a nice story for the end of this game.
1 point game…this is the way a championship game should be…got a feeling we haven’t heard the last of Larry Fitzgerald though
Here's to hoping
Jim Johnson got smart and it is the last we’ve heard of him, unless you’re rooting for the Cardinals, of course.
4th and 10 for Philly
Once we come back from the two-minute warning.
Could be Philly’s season riding on this play.
No pressure or anything.

If this were the Vikings
I’d be half dead right now. I can only imagine what Philly fans are experiencing on this one. (although, if they’re baseball fans, they can’t be too upset no matter what happens here.)
McNabb
He could obviously still win this game, but given those last few throws I wouldn’t be surprised if McNabb is puking in the huddle right now.
No on McNabb in Purple. Not gonna happen, wouldn’t work if it did.

The Cards might have gotten away with a PI there.

Gotta run to Wal-Mart
But I’ll be listening to the AFC game on the way there (thank you, XM Radio).
Enjoy the second half of the doubleheader for now, folks!

Watching the Steelers game right now...
And isn’t helmet to helmet a penalty? Or am I imagining things?
When you go to somebody's house, you don't crap on their floor. Being a fan of one team does NOT give you license to be a dick to fans of another.
re: helmet-to-helmet
apparently only if the defender is a Viking. Remeber one of ours, this season, getting a 15-yarder (and a fine, if i remember right) when AFTER THE SHOULDERS CONTACTED, THEIR HELMETS DID. on today’s hit, the FIRST CONTACT was helmet-to-helmet. But, of course, there is no favoritism in the nfl.
