There's hope

Well, I just got back from attending the NFC Championship here in AZ, and I can't believe the Cardinals....yes, the perennial loosers Cardinals, are going to the Super Bowl! Unbelievable. They played a great game against the same Eagles team that beat the Vikings. Yes, this is the same Cardinals team that the Vikings destroyed....in the same loud home Cardinals' stadium exactly a month ago today.

From a Viking's standpoint I can only think that they must look at today's game as hope that this Viking's team is not far from being able to win a Super Bowl birth themselves. Having a veteran QB was essential to this win. Warner made a number of great plays, not only completions but some of his incompletions were throw aways that avoided sacks. TJ just hasn't seemed to make the progress needed to be able to advance as a leader.

I hope the Vikes fix the QB problem. The Viking's team doesn't need an overhaul, just a new leader in the huddle. And oh yeah, Wisenhunt is a great coach who assembled a great staff....too bad the Vikes didn't grab him when he became available from Pittsburgh. I'm not a Chilly fan, it wouldn't break my heart to see him go, but that would probably set the team back at least 2 years.

If the Cardinals can make a Super Bowl, the Vikes have to keep up the hope that they are close to making it back themselves. Good luck in 09 Vikes! We will see the Purple here in AZ again next year!

Kudos

Well said sir.

Vikings should mimic the cards!:

1: Build great stadium
2: find a Veteran qb
3: get a Possesion wr (Someone like Boldin) to go along with a homerun wr (Berrian like Fitz)
4: Give the playcalling duties to someone who knows what they are doing (and gots some nuts), that way the HC can strictly focus on managing the game. This avod

This Team

is only one or two pieces away from championship caliber. Kurt Warner proved that a veteran QB makes all the difference in the world. I was amazed at how many times he beat the Eagles blitz today. He definitely did his homework on that defense. Every time they showed Dawkins on the sidelines he looked shellshocked. As far as Larry Fitzgerald, what can you say? He’s the second coming of Randy Moss with the strength of a bull. How many Eagles did it take to tackle him? Three or more on far too many occasions. In the next to biggest game of his career, he showed up biggest (as he has all playoffs long). The Vikes can be that team. Ziggy just needs to pull the trigger one more offseason and the offensive playcalling needs to improve (yes Chilly, quit giving us fits with your predictable KAO). Several people have stated on this site that A.P. and Chester need to play at the same time and I agree. That’s one way to keep the defenses honest. It’s going to seem like a long time coming but I can’t wait til September.

Makes me think...

…about the Giants last year. They came out of nowhere and ended up winning it all. Yet the Vikings smashed them during the regular season. Only difference is this year the Vikings played the Cards during their slump. But the Vikings did win and if both teams played at full potential, it could go either way in my opinion.

LAvikings,
I really can’t help but think about that new stadium being build near LA. Which makes me think about the Lakers. I really hope the Viking’s don’t leave Minnesota, but they won’t stay without a new stadium. And I just don’t see a new one coming anytime soon.

The Vikings have most of the talent in place to be contenders for years to come. A few more pieces and they could be a dynasty. The things that all dynastys have in common is a franchise QB. With a Veteran QB like Warner or Garcia, the Vikings would be great for 2 years max. With a franchise QB, the Vikings would be great for years and years. Look at the talent the Colts have had for the last 6 years. Besides QB, is there really that much more talent than the Vikings have now? If I remember correctly, the Colts have had 12 plus wins every year for the last 6. I’m not saying there’s a Peyton Manning out there to be had. But it doesn’t change the fact all great teams have great QBs. The Vikings need to do whatever they can to acquire one now.

And get a new coach

Agreed

With all of the above, main post and comments, with one caveat;

@ PurplePeopleEater – The Vikings might also stay, even without a new stadium, if they win a Super Bowl between now and 2011. Like centrists, there’s a lot of band-wagon fans out there who chase after whoever wins the big game, and they can make the difference.
