Bye Bye Childress

Ziggy, it's time to say bye bye to Brad.  Poor play calling and no creativity.  We have Peterson and we use him like a part time back.  Time to move on.  Go get Shanahan, Cower, or Schottenheimer.   Then find a QB in free agency.  See you next year in the Super Bowl baby!  Also time to find a punter .... check out the former kicker for the North Dakota State Bison.  He is really Fabulous!

A change has to happen if they want to get better. I know it is unlikely they will get Cower, Shanahan or Schottenheimer, but they do need to make a move. Ziggy has got to be disgusted with todays game. It was boring for the fans to watch. It was not a good NFL product.

No chance in hell that Childress is done this year.

I mean, maybe if we had a Quarterback and a fucking Center who snaps the ball TO the Quarterback instead of “in the general area” we’d have been better off.

And I don’t think a “Veteran QB” will be worth a shit, McNabb isn’t going anywhere, there is nobody hitting the market that would be worth a damn anyways.

Eagles fan here

Hasn’t he gotten better every year? I mean, hasn’t your record?

by ajay on Jan 4, 2009 7:40 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

yes

and in that regard, i’m glad and hopefully we keep him.. who has time to start all over with a new system and all of that crap, these things take time, yeah i was ready to fire him at the beginning of the season, but we made the playoffs, the season got turned around, and call me a flip flopper or whatever, but we should be patient

What up?

by snakethejake on Jan 4, 2009 7:42 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I dunno, I realize he’s gotten better every year, which is good, but I’m still torn. The guy calls stupid plays so often lately, and Shannahan is open, he knows how to utilize RBs. And hey, guess what, we have the best pure runner in the NFL. I think it’d be such a sweet match if we could get Shannahan to at least come in for Offensive Coordinator or replace Childress.

by Frost on Jan 4, 2009 7:52 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Sounds like you a willing to continue with the mediocre play. I’m not. A veteran QB will be available this year …. Anderson from the Browns, Cassell, maybe even McNabb. In fact, Favre would make things interesting if he decides to play another year or two. Staying pat is not an option as far as I’m concerned……

by Mallers on Jan 4, 2009 7:42 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

According to ESPN- Cassell is getting tagged. McNabb isn’t going anywhere and as was evident this year: Derek Anderson fucking sucks.

by Phenom507 on Jan 4, 2009 7:45 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

kill yourself…y would we bring in a new quarterback who doesn’t even know the system. This team is ready to win right now and we dont have time for making system changes. Cassell looks good because of the offense they run and Mcnabb is playing way to well for him to come to the vikes next season. Anderson sucks period!!! Just give it time and be patient

by vikesfan4lyf on Jan 4, 2009 8:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Possibly because Jackson doesn’t seem to be doing very well in this system. Or its the recievers who are making him look bad. But he had quite a few questionable throws this game. To be honest, he’s lucky he only had one interception, the way he was just slinging it out there.

by Frost on Jan 4, 2009 8:13 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Don't tell me you want Tjack

if that is what you are trying to say then you are nutty

by vikefansd on Jan 4, 2009 11:45 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Pennington had a waaayyy worse game than TJack yesterday.

Just sayin…isn’t he supposed to be a bit of a veteran?

I’d take Tarvaris over Chad Pennington anyday.

by AustinVike on Jan 5, 2009 7:28 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Chad Pennington played the Ravens. . . I don’t even want to think about how bad Jackson would have done if he was subbing for Pennington in that game.

by Frost on Jan 5, 2009 8:21 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

There's no way...

You sound as if you think he would have played exponentially worse. That is just not the case. The Ravens Defense is not exponentially better than the Eagles; better I’ll conceed, but only shades.

by LoveHate on Jan 5, 2009 9:37 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

you have to be crazy

to think that Brett Favre is the right QB for ANY team right now. We need a new starting QB next year, T-Jack is not the answer. I’m okay with Childress because I agree that continuity is crucial in a run for the super bowl.

But how about that call at the beginning of the game to not take the holding call to put the eagles out of kicking range? I thought that was a bit stupid.

by skiumah06 on Jan 4, 2009 9:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Forcing the score?

I’ve never seen that done. You never take points off of the board, but you never intentionally put them on either.

by LoveHate on Jan 4, 2009 10:41 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Cassell will be available for the right price. Sometimes you have to pay the piper. Anderson is better than you think. If McNabb stays in Philly, make a trade of Kolb. Do SOMETHING! TJack is not the answer. Wake up!

by Mallers on Jan 4, 2009 7:52 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Why would we take Kolb? He’s no better than Jackson. And I’m not sure how Cassell would work out here. I was all for getting McNabb, but the bastard is playing too well for the Philly fans to call for his head. Maybe if he has 4 picks against the Giants they’ll let him go and we can McNabb him. Hahaha I’m so clever.

by Frost on Jan 4, 2009 7:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Dude

You do not want Kolb…I’m not sure the Eagles even want Kolb.

by ajay on Jan 4, 2009 8:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No way

Cassel is worth what they’d have to give up to get him. This team needs to take care of the O-Line more than anything else.

by cheaptoy on Jan 4, 2009 8:07 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The status quo will be maintained...

Our Schedule seems a bit easier next year…

Really what the Vikes need is an Offensive design makeover!!! We need screens, draws, trick plays, plays that get receivers open, something, i don’t know. You put any QB in this current system and it’s hard for them to thrive, at least that’s what it seems like.

Next year we’re gonna have to have amazing/ at least good QB play to go anywhere in the playoffs! That’s the bottom line. So far Baltimore’s Flacco is the only Inexperienced QB left in the playoffs and that’s mainly due to the fact that Ed Reed and the Ravens D. Score more points than there offense. Flacco manages well, though.

But honestly, will Cassell be able to learn our system??? Our prevent “KAO” offense!! This offseason will be interesting, but I don’t expect much at all!

by solafide on Jan 4, 2009 7:53 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Kolb will end up being a quality QB in this league. TJack won’t. Quit making excuses. Thats what got us into this mess. Players and coaches have to be accountable. Talk to Shanahan about that. He understands the game.

by Mallers on Jan 4, 2009 7:57 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Childress shouldn’t go anywhere.

He’s had a steady increase in wins as a coach, and who are you to say that Jackson won’t be any good? He’s played well lately, the game has (finally) slowed down for him, and of all the people you were suggesting, I would only take Cassell, and I don’t think the Vikings trading away the farm for a QB is going to help anything. We need secondary help, we need a new fucking OC worse than you can imagine. In fact, I’m not opposed to making Eric Bienemy(sp?) O.C. and see what he can do.

Anderson is awful, he had pretty much an exact clone of the Vikings’ talents there (maybe less O-Line) and did nothing.

by Phenom507 on Jan 4, 2009 8:00 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I have to agree with this post. I was thinking about having Bienemy replace Bevell too. AND, while watching the game, I couldn’t help but wish we had a better cornerback.

by Frost on Jan 4, 2009 8:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

r u serious???

This is what its all about. Now that TJack has some experience and he knows that he’ll be our starting quarterback next year plus the fact that we get better every year the Vikes maybe ready 4 that superbowl push. Bring back Henderson and Fat Pat, Shiancoe has become a reliable target, the draft is coming up, and AD is bringing the heat to the next level we should be ready. Our defense is stepping up big time and all we need is our offense to produce. Get some more offensive weapons out there because i’m tired of hearing people say all the vikes have is peterson. I like how our defense is now so if we use our offseason time wisely hello playoffs 2010.

by vikesfan4lyf on Jan 4, 2009 8:01 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

i don't know what is this love afair with TJack

You wtch today game and you can sit there and type post. He still have bad mechanic, footwork. The reason he got intercepted is it was supose to be a quick out pass and he look to the otherside. When he look to the other side he loose track of the db When it is crunch time he resort back to his dump pass. Lets be serious. He is one of those player who look goood but dose not produce. Or it is loke a girl who look really good but no substance.

by vikefansd on Jan 4, 2009 11:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Many of the dump passes were a result of the pressure, having to get rid of the ball quickly.

Plus they seemed to cover the deep balls very well. They covered everthing well, really. This isn’t to say you’re whole argument is wrong, he made some very dumb decisions and got away with some bad throws, but just take all the factors into consideration.

you cant see that the Eagle did not respect his passing ability

That is what i am trying to say. He need to make them pay for jumping the route. When a guy jump the route mean he does not respect your defensive reading ability.

by vikefansd on Jan 5, 2009 12:53 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

He could pump and throw over the top.

by vikefansd on Jan 5, 2009 12:54 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think he got away with too many bad throws. How many extra interceptions did the Eagle’s drop? At least 2. It was a tale of two halves for him really. The first half, he wasn’t bad, despite the pick 6. The second though, he seemed to regress. Alot. Part of it was recievers not catching or holding onto the ball, but part of it was the bad throws also.

by Frost on Jan 5, 2009 8:23 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Don't get me wrong, he definitely didn't play well.

I’m just saying he could’ve played a lot worse. He had some really nice throws in there too. Basically, he was a roller coaster in that game, except he had more lows than highs.

In AP I trust

by FarvaForTheVikings on Jan 5, 2009 11:47 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The love afair comes from the fact that now he has a little play off experience under him and he has the whole off season to work on his game. The game will get much easier for him now because his confidence should boost. OUr vikes will return to form barring injury wit a few good draft picks. Next year is our year and if we dont atleast make it past 2nd round then goodbye childress.

by vikesfan4lyf on Jan 5, 2009 2:08 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Get rid of Childress.
Get rid of Bevell.
Make Leslie Frazier the head coach.

Every sportswriter, every blogger, every analyst on TV knew that the Eagles were going to confuse the heck out of Jackson and get pressure on him. So after running umpteen G*d D**m plays up the middle, WHY IN THE F**K DON’T YOU HAVE PLAYS THAT WILL MAKE IT EASIER FOR TJ????

God forbid, call a roll out, a bubble screen, a middle screen, a QB draw, a naked bootleg… SOMETHING OTHER THAN RUNNING IT UP THE GD MIDDLE.

Not to mention the usual cluelessness and lethargy of the offense when the clock gets below 3 minutes in a half. I mean, wtf????

In this day and age

Unless a team consistently finished below .500, continuity is highly important to long term success.

by cheaptoy on Jan 4, 2009 8:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Take a pill, Mallers.

You know the players like/respect him, right? You know how much a smoother operation the Vikings have been since he’s been there, right? You know we have a young quarterback still finding his feet in the NFL, right? You know the defense that Tarvaris/Brad struggled with today in their first playoff game ever is the same scheme that limited Tom Brady and Randy Moss to 14 points in the Superbowl, right?

The only possible coaching move today that fans in the right mind have any possible reason to bitch about would be declining the holding call early in the game to possibly put Akers out of field goal range. Otherwise, what did the coach mess up today? Tell me, specifically, what Mike Shannahan does with Adrian that Childress doesn’t do.

Cassell… really? Haven’t we already seen a quarterback light it up facing Randy Moss coverage only to totally suck ass once he’s not seeing the same look every single down. We’d have to give up two first round picks to get him. No flipping way.

by drew10 on Jan 4, 2009 8:48 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Sorry, I just want to point out that when the Eagles played the Pats, they did NOT have Moss. That wasn’t until last year that they had really good wideouts.

by Frost on Jan 5, 2009 8:25 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

We don’t need a QB like Cassell or Anderson, we need a game manager who doesn’t turn the ball over and makes the short to intermediate throws. No one like that is available this off season, so we need to sit still and hope Tavaris develops further with the easier schedule next year. Doing otherwise is just a waste of resources that could be invested in our other weak spots.

by BacksThePack on Jan 4, 2009 8:50 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Wilf has his sights set on a...

Stadium! The Vikings are building a great organization even with the predictable play calling (and I don’t mean run/pass, more like which run and which pass).

Though given the ticket fiasco, it may be further away than previously thought.

by LoveHate on Jan 4, 2009 9:12 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

My opinions:

Don’t get Cassel. We need to get better protection, no matter who’s lined up behind it. I’m not tottaly sure how franchise tags work, but if Cassel’s tagged we have to give up at least a first round pick, and I would much rather use that to get someone to better protect the QB (preferably a right tackle), whomever that may be next year.

I seriously doubt McNabb will be available, so I won’t even waste words on that point.

I would not touch Derek Anderson with a 10 foot pole, let alone bring him in to play QB for us.

If we draft a QB, he shouldn’t start this year, so that options out.

In my opinion, as much as I know many of my fellow Vikes fans will hate this, Tjack is probably the best option at this point in time. I’ll wait to see how the offseason progresses (who gets released, doesn’t get resigned, etc.) to be completely sure, but most of the other options seem high risk, average reward.

I would like to see Cassell duplicate his performance with Vikings personnel

The bevy of WR’s on the Pat’s roster doesn’t compare the numerous TE’s/H-Backs/FB’s on the Vikings roster. It’s chess and checkers.

Our offense is built around a strong running game and a short passing game. I don’t think Cassell’s strengths play into that.

by LoveHate on Jan 5, 2009 12:18 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

none of you can blame this game

on jackson.. he had eagles in his face all game… what does that mean? the line was horrible.. which it was today.. we need to draft an OT to replace Cook first… our defense ill be better next year with henderson.. if we get a decent WR in the 2nd road.. we will be golden… if any QB has the same pressure that jackson had.. it would be just the same… and no one realizes it… its the lines fault… not jacksons

by hickenizgriz on Jan 5, 2009 12:19 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I agree with most of your points...

My only thing is that Tjack has to take some of the blame, he had some very bad/stupid plays. Still, I mostly agree that the subpar blocking had a BIG role in his play. Tjack had his ups and downs.

by FarvaForTheVikings on Jan 5, 2009 12:28 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think...

If we don’t resign Birk, Ryan Cook could possibly suffice if not thrive at a switch back to center and I think Childress and Co. are aware of this. Artis Hicks or a quality rookie could hold down the RT spot, it’s just a matter of when the right guy is available in the draft.

I’m curious to see where Sidney Rice’s ceiling is. This year would have been his rookie year had he not come out early, but the body and hands seem to be there— it’s just a matter becoming a more refined receiver I guess.

Jackson was poorly protected and made some bad decisions, but I didn’t notice receivers getting seperation very often. It sucks that the Berrian contract most likely means we won’t be making a run at Anquan Boldin, but even if for some reason we did, I wouldn’t like having that much locked up into two wideouts on a power running team. I think in the end we won’t be taking a wideout early in the draft or making another splash FA addition at that position.

by drew10 on Jan 5, 2009 2:27 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I think we need to improve the secondary before we improve the wideouts after watching this game. Sharper lost a step, and Tyrell just isn’t quite ready yet. He’s got the skills, but he doesn’t have the smarts and familiarity that Sharper does.

In regards to Sidney Rice, the guy actually did pretty well for the time he’s played. He had that knee injury early on, and it really slowed him down. Here’s hoping he’s there for an entire season next year.

I Couldn't agree more

I am so frustrated by this team. I have been a viking fan since 1974, and it has been a painful 25 years! The fact that this team has never won a super bowl says alot. They need a coaching change desperately. They squeeked into the playoffs—actually, they had no business being there—and lost as was expected. The fact that they barely won the final game of the season, at home, against the backup players for the Giants, speaks volumes about this team. Their run defense is awesome, but their pass defense, especially with short passes, is putrid. They need a new QB badly, and a new head coach badly. This guy childress is way too conservative and is not creative at all!

Let’s face it, the only reason they made the playoffs is because their division is terrible. We need some changes guys.

by Vegan Thug on Jan 5, 2009 9:04 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I hesitate to go as far as your last statement said.

They won 10 games and beat all of the NFC division winners. The two West division winners were even worse. I’m already looking forward to next year. WE CAN BUILD ON THIS!!!
