Nest Season!!!
So, we did it! No, no, no... not the superbowl. But we won our division and finally got into the playoffs!!! But it was an upsetting loss. Coulda, shoulda, woulda done better if... who knows. Play the blame game all night long but in reality the Wilfs are keeping our coaches and we're going to build off our team! So where do we go from here?!
#1) THE BIG QUESTION?: Do we keep T-Jack for our starting QB of the 09' season??? Well. Against a great playoff Defense, he looked pretty horrible. Before that, he looked ok. So thats that.
#2) What positions do we target to make better for us to become that superbowl team??? Personally, I have to bring it back to question #1: what was the biggest problem on our team this last game and season?... QB. I honestly think we need to pay someone to get it done. We need sacks, we get jared allen. we need a reciever, we get barrian!!! So lets get that QB! Second, I think we look at a possible good 2nd reciever? Bobby wade is... well i cant stand him. Rice is ok, but kinda gurly when it comes to going up for a ball. I see us drafting depth in the older ages. O-line, D-Backs, D-Tackles.
#3) Next season... for better or worse? Do we improve under childress for a 4th year?
SO, stay positive, stay on the band wagon, we made it to the playoffs, we need to improve. Lets keep it going baby!

First, they need to can the special teams coach, if for no other reason than to send a message that the type of performance they’ve had all year is unacceptable. Demoting Bevell and bringing in someone new would be an option I wouldn’t mind either. We’re stuck with Chilly for another year; could be worse.
1. I’d like to see the Vikes get an experienced QB who is somewhat better than Frerotte: Jeff Garcia, Kerry Collins (he looks better now, doesn’t he), or ??? (suggestions welcome). I’m OK with keeping TJack as the possible starter but we need a better 1-2 QB combination. Also not sure Gus will want to come back after being not getting the chance again this season.
2. Your suggestions on other positional needs are solid. Upgrade at WR would be nice, but I’m not sure I’d say it is key. O-line upgrades important as well as depth/youth at DBs. I’d like to resign Farwell, Jimmy K and Birk if he’s not too expensive, but probably not other FAs.
3. Without a significant improvement in the passing game and special teams I don’t see us being much better next year. If we have TJack as QB for the season I say the record is the same, at best, especially considering we may not have the Wills for the first four games.
BIGGEST CONCERN: We don’t improve enough to keep AP with the program and he starts dreaming about playing for teams who can get the job done.

FA Quarterbacks
Here is a starting point at signing a decent QB to go with TJack as a 1-2 (order TBD):

or this might be better
http://www.kffl.com/static/nfl/features/freeagents/fa.php?y=2009
Kurt Warner (I think that would be sweet – probably not happening now);
Matt Cassel
Jeff Garcia (this would be a great fit, would have been better than Gus this season)
Rex Grossman (that would be ironic . . . . )
Kyle Boller
Kerry Collins (not happening anymore)
Charlie Batch
JP Losman
Patrick Ramsey
JT O’Sullivan
Chris Simms

Kurt Warner sure would look good in purple I’m thinking. Or Garcia.

Personally...
I wouldn’t care if we got a crafty veteran for a Super Bowl run, but wouldn’t everyone be happier if we found a guy who would be back there for eight to 10 years for the Vikes? I was always a Matt Cassel guy, but that ship has sailed this season, and McNabb is definitely not leaving now, so I really have no idea right now. None of those QBs listed really appeals to me long term.
Knowing Childress, the Vikings will not use a good pick on a QB, so there’s that. So until I see differently, I have no idea, and am honestly fearful for the QB position for next year.
And it’s only the first day of the offseason. Ugh.

I would hope they don’t use a pick on a QB. That’s 3 consecutive years with a QB pick. We already have Booty to develop. We’re not the Packers here. We just need a veteran, some one better than Frerotte, that is mobile and accurate.

So far...
So far, it looks like Booty isn’t going to bring in any competition. Jackson needs someone to push him, at least, or someone to take over the reigns. While I would love to get a veteran like Cassel or McNabb, it’s not going to happen. I’d rather draft someone to bring competition to training camp.
If Jackon wins it there, awesome. At least he’s got a fire lit under his ass. If not, we have another legitimate option at the QB position.

End of the 1st round wide receiver like Jeremy Maclin would fall right in our laps if we wanted to go that route for a WR, dude’s a beast.
I think we can do fine with TJax next year, without having to break the bank on a washed up veteran QB. Concentrate on upgrading the O-Line, and we give him more time to make the decisions he’s getting rushed on.

That's the thing though...
Our offensive line is GREAT. Compared to others in the league, the only place we really need to upgrade is right tackle. Tarvaris was watching the rush and not the coverage, which lead to a lot of his bad decisions. We at least need to bring in someone to compete with him; he just did not get it done when he needed to.
Drafting a wide receiver…I don’t know. I’m usually not a fan of taking wide outs in the first round (see: Williamson, Troy and Organization: Lions), but a late round pick could work. I’d rather take a quarterback, lineman, corner, or safety. Hell, I have no idea what’d I’d take. At least we have time to think about the draft now.

Really, it’s just best available right now for us in the draft. The elite OL and QB’s will be gone, no sense in reaching for anybody. There will also be plenty of DB’s late 1st available and we’ll have first shot at that ranged DB’s if we want them.

Cozy Dome Life has led to Delusions
I love to scan the blogs of other NFL teams and I must say that having read a great deal of them over the past year that Minnesota Vikings fans have earned a very special mark….most delusional. I can’t believe how many of you thought your team was actually good. How many of you started drooling that TJ was suddenly a new, improved quarterback because he had a couple of respectable games. How many of you thought you were going to beat the Eagles..most of the NFL insiders new otherwise. How many of you think that somehow the entire league and all sportscasters hate your team..only you make the Vikings the center of anyone’s universe. Lastly, how many of you began this year, and are already saying it about next year, that you are one player away from going to the superbowl. You have way over estimated your team talent in every facet. Your quarterback, pick any on your roster, is not taking you to the superbowl. Your receivers are a sad bunch of slow, cement hands. Your defense is far from being imposing at any level. Adrian Peterson’s stats are generally based on one breakaway run with another 20 carries at 2 yards per which reflects both on him and the offensive line. Taylor is the better back and if you were wise you’d trade mr. fumble peterson while he still has some value because he’s a five-year back at most. Of course you already know your coaching sucks so you need to set realistic goals for next year like mayble six wins most of which will come from the NFC north.

Go away.
Go away, Packer fan. Bashing our team because yours didn’t even make the playoffs is vomit inducing.
If you’re going to argue, at least use well thought out, grammar infused sentences. Not wall of text garbage.

Well, sorting through this wall of... stuff, I can say.
None of our receivers are slow and cement handed. Actually, most of them have pretty good hands, or decent at the very least. Berrian is pretty darn fast, and Allison isn’t a slouch in that department either.
I’ll give you the QB point, just because I don’t have much to back myself up with.
Our defense is not opposing on any level? You just lost any credibility. If you’re seriously going to say our defensive line doesn’t scare the living hell out of you, you are either lying or, to use your own word, delusional.
The linebackers are solid, maybe not scary, but definitely solid.
The secondary is iffy, I’ll admit. Antoine is solid, Madieu has done very well, Ced has improved, but like many have said, Sharper’s lost a step.
The Vikings’ schedule for next year is quite easy. I’m sure you haven’t looked at it, because if you did, you would should realize that almost every team in the NFL could manage six wins, so the Vikings should definitely manage that.
Honestly, I don’t know why I just went and spent all that time wasting rational thought on you, because while I try not to be mean (even with Packer fans), you obviously weren’t putting much into yours, and you don’t know sh!t about the Vikings.
In AP I trust

lolol You want to talk about delusional? How about the Packer fans who thought you were going to even MAKE the playoffs this season? Yeah, that really worked didn’t it? How many games is Aaron Rodgers going to lose for you guys on the last possession in a close game next season? And you come in here talking about QB issues. Go back to your glass house.

Let the bidding begin.....
Special Teams needs to be revamped……
1- I think Gus is gone, did his thing and it was decent enough but not gonna get it done long term.
Would love to see them sign Garcia to compete for the starters job with TJ. Not sold on TJ yet but I don’t think we’ve got a say in the matter, chilly loves him and he’s got promise but next year is the make or break (hopefully)
Maybe booty is our man? We should draft another QB in the later rounds.
2- OL needs improvement…Tausher from Green Bay?…would love to steal some more talent away from those guys to make us better. A little disapointed in Birk’s play but he’s a good leader…we’ll see if he takes a pay cut to stay around. (continuity between him and the line and the qb….if it’s jackson)
I’m gonna put jimmy k in here too since he’s basically an OL anyways. I think we’ve got to keep this guy around…best blocking TE in the league is worth something (mills, shiancoe and jimmy) I really liked mills at the beginning of the season but shiancoe has been a pleasant suprise!
3- Next season will be better….chips on shoulders and all that jazz….if we stay healthy I think we’ve got double digits again especially if we get creative on offense enough to win the field position game instead of 3 and outs when we’re stuck inside our 20 (oh yeah cover the dang punts too)….for cryin out loud get the 2 minute offense in check!!!!!!!! That’s awful to watch…..we can get more than 5 plays in 2:00…..
4- Houshmanzadeahahdazahdeah would be a good pickup but I’m not sure how much of a team guy he is….can we trade for Calvin Johnson??

We don’t have enough cap space for a superstar reciever I don’t think. Berrian costs alot. I’d rather we sign Warner if he’s available than get Houshmenzada.

I like Warner but with our OL will need to beef up the pass protection…don’t think he can make plays like Garcia does with his legs…but I do prefer Kurt if we’re talking pure passing ability.
Check this out….
