Jackson on the Vikings punt return woes
This is certainly not meant to mock or gloat... I just thought you guys might find this tidbit from Matt Mosely's interview with Desean Jackson about the Vikings' punt team interesting.
Fortunately for the Eagles, Jackson settled down and ended up making a huge contribution. His 62-yard punt return set up the Eagles' first field goal and his 34-yard catch put the Eagles in position to take a 9-7 lead in the second quarter. Jackson later added a 30-yard punt return up the left sideline to give the Eagles the ball at the Vikings' 40. After doing a live shot with a Japanese film crew, he told me that he watched film of Reggie Bush returning two punts for touchdowns against the Vikings earlier in the season.
"[Bush] broke two returns and tripped on the third or he would have had another," Jackson said. "That punter out-kicks their coverage and that makes things really tough on them. But my punt return team also did a phenomenal job."
From reading some of the comments in the game thread, this probably isn't news to most of you guys...

Heath Farwell
Must be the single greatest special teams player in the history of the National Football League. Kluwe was kicking the ball the same way last season, and our punt coverage was nowhere near this disastrous.

Never thought...
I never thought one guy would make such a difference. Goes to show that while he didn’t make or break our coverage, Heath Farwell is probably the most underrated player on the Vikings.
It would have been nice to have him this season. At least the speical teams have nowhere to go but up, right?

Skol Vikings!
Woot Woot!
I think we can take Jackson's words
to be truth. Myself and others have been saying he outkicks the coverage all the time. This just solidifies that speculation.
I just hate how the guy got into Childress’ face after that second long punt return. Total lack of respect. And it wasn’t even because he’s so good, returners have eaten our STs up all season long.
