Cassel, Warner, Vick, and... Culpepper?!?!
All of this QB Talk to getting too crazy!!! Posts and posts keep trying to break down what we need but WHO WILL WE GET?!
1) Matt Cassel has been franchised.
2) Kurt Warner is a FA, and is already talked about by Bears Fans...
3) Michael Vick! The Vick! I happen to love this man. I think he would be the most explosive and exciting QB... him and A.P. I love this match!
4) Daunte... really?...
5)Possible Derek Anderson (Overrated?) and Collins (kinda like gus...)
Its this or Draft? so...

IF
the vikings picked up vick i would stop watching the vikings games all together and start buying packers gear
vick is a piece of shit human being and doesnt deserve another chance to play in the nfl
only thing good about vick in the past was his atheleticism, which is probally gone now that he has been getting his shit pushed in for the past few months by a guy named bubba

Kinda agree...
With NativeViking up there, but I think it’s more along the lines that Vick has gotten a little older, he’s at the age when runningbacks start to slow down, and he’s been in prison. I don’t think he’ll be near the runner he was, and he was never a good passer.
So no, Michael Vick would be suicide, both on the field and off.
Good riddance to that tool box.

I would not be able to watch
a single game if vick was brought in by the vikes. he is an awful human being. the abuse and torcher of animals is a prime indicator of an ability to abuse and hurt other human beings with out remorse. even if vick hasn’t ever abused a human, he is at very high risk of doing so in the future. also, he can’t throw the ball. he can run like the wind, but he can’t throw the ball worth a damn.

My vote is unrepresented!
Honestly, I wouldn’t make a move at “starting” quarterback. I think keeping TJ as starter and getting a true backup (again, like Gus) is what we need to do, given all our options. If our money and draft is to be spent wisely, I think we need immediate injection at the receiver position. Rice is not the answer and will be out of the NFL in two years. Wade is old. Allison has not shown his usefulness. And this team cannot run on the above average strength of BB and VS.

One thing on Vick....
the same feelings towards Vick’s criminal behavior should be directed at Jared Allen as well. 3 DUI’s is also unacceptable. I’m not saying what the standard should be for the NFL and player conduct, and I am not justifying or excusing Vick’s behavior, but there are plenty of players who have walked away from domestic issues and other acts of violence and go unnoticed.

Good point...
You make a good point, but like it or not, many athletes get picked up for situations similar to Jared Allen’s. Whereas he did break the law and put people in danger, no human or animal was hurt. Michael Vick, knowing full well what he was doing, fought, tortured, and killed dogs for the sake of gambling.
While they are similar in that they are maybe on the same spectrum, Michael Vick’s crimes are far more intense than what Jared Allen did.
That’s not to say there wasn’t the potential for Jared Allen to seriously injure or kill someone, but thankfully he didn’t. So far, it appears that he has reformed as well. If Michael Vick comes out and plays by the rules, good for him; I’ll let my opinion on him as a person change when he proves it to me.
On a football note, like I said earlier, Michael Vick is just not a good quarterback to begin with, and he’s at the age where RBs start to decline, so I wouldn’t want him at all. It’s really not worth it for his skill and the public relations nightmare it would bring to the team.

Agreed.
Dogfighting aside, Vick had several other issues off the field (Ron Mexico/herpes, marijuana water bottle, giving the finger to disgruntled fans, and I believe an incident in Vegas (?)). His return, if there is one, will be intriguing, but I certainly wouldn’t touch him. I saw him play arguably his best pro game ever in Cincinnati in 06, but I don’t think he’ll be the same if/when he returns. If he was to lose even a step as a runner, defenses could scheme him more easily and aggressively. And he will lose that step at some point.
Would Garcia be an option for qb? I don’t know the details of his situation in Tampa Bay.

NativeViking is correct
I too would stop watching and caring about the Vikings if they pick up Vick. He is unrepentant about what he has done, no matter what his PR people say. I hope the IRS comes after him once he is out of jail. Let him deal with those guys for awhile. Plus he is not a winner or leader. Yes he has skills, but skills alone don’t make a winner.

How do you know he’s unrepentant? Do you talk to him on the phone every day? Seriously, the guy was involved in dog fighting rings, and killed and tortured some dogs, yeah. It’s a terrible thing to do. But he’s in prison serving his time. I bet he’s going to do a hell of a lot of community service when he gets out also. In reality, he deserves a second chance to show that he’s righted the ship. I bet if he stays away from his so called “friends”, he’ll be just fine.
That said, lol, I don’t want him on the team either. I want to pick up Warner. Who cares what Bear’s fans are saying about him. They talk about getting new QBs every year practically. They thought THEY were going to get Brett Favre. Honestly, if you look at the teams, and Warner had to pick which one he wanted to join, which do you think he’d go for?
The Bears, with their bad O-line, and second-rate recievers who’s only weapons really are Forte and, this is a stretch, Hester? Or would he rather go to the Vikings, the team that won the division this year against a tougher schedule, with Bernard Berrian, Chester Taylor, AD, a better O-line, and the kind of defense that doesn’t like Andre Johnson tear them apart and is championship caliber?
I’d like to think he’d pick the Vikes.

You are right I don't know
Too much hyperbole. I just have a soft spot for dogs and living close to Atlanta have seen way to much of Mr. Vick. I still despise him for what he did.

Your Qb choices
Cassel ? too much on salary cap, Warner, gettin old and were stuck with another ferotte, we need mobility back there too, Vick never happen with Chilly, too much baggage and too much tarnished image for Ziggy, Dante like u said really? hes washed up. Derek Anderson, I dont think overated just in a bad system that we could change, cant wait till free agency starts.

Hasselbeck
I just posted an article from SI.com, saying it might be possible to get Hasselbeck from Seattle for only a 2nd rounder. It sounds too good to be true, but if Seattle is rebuilding mode, he’s obviously the best choice for the cost!

It’s unfortunate that the options out there this offseason just aren’t that fathomable. I would be for rolling the dice on Matt Cassell… I think he possesses a great knowledge of the field that our current QB lacks. However, NO WAY for the price it’s going to take. 2 1st round draft picks PLUS a big deal?? No thanks. He had a productive year, but he’s still no Tom Brady.
The only veteran FA option I like is Kurt Warner, but I really feel like this season is his swan song. Perhaps I am wrong and he could come here and have a productive season in our offense… but I just have a very hard time believing it.
Michael Vick? You’ve got to be kidding me.
Daunte? You’ve got to be kidding me #2. He was a good QB during his tenure here, but he is just not the man he once was. That is obvious. Plus, with his hatred of the current Minnesota coaching staff, lack of an agent, and bullheaded “I think I’m worth more than I really am” attitude, it just doesn’t make sense.
Derek Anderson is boggling. He had one helluva year last season in Cleveland and put the Browns in quite a QB predicament. He squandered his job away this season with poor play and bad decisions. Did the role of “Potential Franchise QB” get to him? Did the concussion he suffered in the preseason knock him off his game? Who knows. The fact is, we HAVE seen him play consistently well over an entire season, so there IS some talent there. Perhaps if the Browns were desperate and offered him up for very little (4th round pick or lower) then it may be worth taking a crack at it. He’s young, and I think he could still possibly emerge.
A rookie in the draft that would come in and start for us, just doesn’t seem plausible either. I think there are only two quarterbacks in the draft this year that could perhaps step in and start for a squad in Stafford and Bradford and Sam may not even come out. In order to draft one of these guys a HUGE jump in the 1st round would be required and that just does NOT make sense for the Vikes this offseason. We gave up a ton of picks last year to snag JA, and I don’t think we should throw a second draft in a row away. We have quite a few needs that should be addressed through the draft. I would not be opposed to drafting a lower-round guy with upside (Chase Daniels as an example) but he would obviously not start.
So, after rambling about all of the options presented, I can’t really feel happy about settling on one. It’s obvious to me, however, that we need to get somebody in here who has proved themselves as a starter to compete with TJ for the job. So, in that light, I guess I’d go with Warner. He’d cost a little more than we might like to spend on an old QB right now, but his deal would most likely only be a 2-year one, and during that time we could continue the TJ project while also developing JD Booty or a potential drafted QB this year. If Kurt slips back into Giants/Early Arizona mode, then we rinse and repeat the T-Jax shuffle. The more I write about this scenario, the more it makes me nervous.
Ultimately, the “what should we do” never seems to be the “what we actually do”. I would not be that suprised if Bad Calldress keeps TJ as the starter, brings in another lame, veteran QB to back him up, and continues to attempt to develop Booty (Which I do not think will pan out… if you watched any of those training camp videos from last year, his arm just looks PATHETIC). This would result in us having yet another average to slightly above average season and Childress’ departure.
Ahhhhh, there’s the silver lining.

More likely than all of those you've mentioned...
Is Jeff Garcia. His coach doesn’t like him, he’s a FA and older and would see the opportunity to play with T-Jack on the roster (enticing). And he’s affordable. He knows how to run this offense, has probably done it better than anyone since Favre was good or Young.

Purgatory.
It’s so-so.
All right.
Mas-o-menos.
Kinda blah.
That’s an accurate description of Garcia and the Bucs offense this year. Hey, at least it’d be an upgrade for the Vikes.

i agree with bringing in jeff garcia
in fact i was pretty pissed off when the vikings didnt get him from the eagles
jeff garcia made our d – line look slower then shit this year when we faced tampa
and he can actually throw the ball accurately on the run, something that TJ lacks

Thumbs Down All Around
I don’t like any of the choices, personally.
Cassell looks great but he’s the boy-in-the-bubble… take him out of that scheme and what will he be? Probably choking. I don’t have a lot of faith there.
Warner would have been an AWESOME choice, 4 years ago. Now it would be like the Moon acquisition, just not worth the while.
Vick would have been a good choice before his jail stint, now he’s an unknown quantity, and as the posts here show, too many doggy-lovers have a huge hate-on for him. That’s not good for ticket-sales.
Culpepper is washed up. I hate to say it, but when the knee went, so went his career. Amazing that the Vikings realized it and let him go before it was obvious to the rest of the league. He says he’s 100% now and ready to rock, but his performance with the admittedly under-performing Lions is also underwhelming.
Derek Anderson… his stats suggest he’d be an improvement over TJack and maybe the Vikes can get him on the cheap and let he and TJack duke it out for 2nd string. I don’t know, a big unknown…
Jeff Garcia – See Warner above
Brett Farve – See Warner above, with the added disadvantage of all the stupid drama he’d bring to Minnesota. The stench started clearing up the moment he signed with the Jets.
