'Significant announcement 'coming today
From Paul Walsh at the Trib: the Vikings are going to make a "significant business announcement" later today. Is it something big like stadium news, or is it something boring like a new sponsor? If it's the latter, is Comcast slowly taking over the world with all their new sponsorship deals?
Stay tuned folks. Meanwhile, let your speculation run rampant in the comments!
UPDATE 12:30 PM: Turns out it was the Mall of America buying naming rights to the Metrodome's field for the next three years. Yawn.
"The Mall Of America Field at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome". Just rolls right off the tongue, no?

"Next Three Years"?
The Mall of America realizes a three-year lease on naming rights to the Metrodome fields may well mean a year of Mall of America Field @ the HHH being used for nothing more substantial than monster truck shows and real estate sales conventions, right?

You Heard Right, Mister
The financial sword of Damocles still hangs over us as big as that new TV set in Dallas.

You got that right.
If a new stadium deal doesn’t come together in the next two years the Vikings are history in MN and the NFL won’t do one thing about it.

dunno...
Wilf has said he wants the Vikings in MN… let’s assume he is telling the truth.
The Metrodome is OWNED by (the people of MN) and cannot support an NFL franchise in it’s current condition.
If the Metrodome is to be renovated to support an NFL team then a majority of that funding needs to come from (the people of MN), as the owners. If (the poeple of MN) are unwilling to fund that renovation, then I see Wilf and Company seeking an alternate location to host the VIKINGS.
The announcement of the partnership with MOA makes me think that Wilf will work to build a new stadium there and shut out the State from any revenue AND leave (the people of MN) with an ‘empty’ Metrodome.
I BELIEVE...

How about...
selling the naming rights to a name brand befitting the Metrodome?
How about “Satellite Stadium”, I think it’s got a nice ring to it.
The State needs to get it in gear. The Vikings must not go the way of the North Stars and Lakers.

Taking Care of Business
Count your blessings.
(Things could be much worse, and the Vikings really need the money.)
How would “the 3M Field at the 3H Metrodome” have sounded in the pre-game warm ups?
Or “Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Park in the Field where Triple-H Used to Be”?
Mall of America, roll up the score!
Shop at the Vikings’ store!
M-O-N-E-Y, ho, ho!
Skol, Vikings let’s go!

Ironic
Can’t resist noting that you are saying “yawn” to a sponshorship deal, just two posts after trumpetting your own (this site’s) sponshorship by comcast as “big news.”
Sorry, has to be said.

Shouldn't the field be sponsored by...
Toro!?
I BELIEVE...
by ArizonaVikingsFan on Oct 2, 2009 11:12 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
hmm...
Considering it doesn’t need to be mowed I think Toro might be better off to spend their money endorsing a REAL stadium outdoors!

How about Herbert Hoover?
Or maybe the 4H club. Or both. We can never have too many h’s.
