Poll: The Next 3 Games

Vikings roll over the Rams 38-10

Star-divide

The Next 3 games will probalby be the toughest 3 game stretch of the season.  After watching our dominant Defense and an ever evolving Offense, I like the way things are shaking out.  I think we could win all 3 games, however that is probably not the most likely of scenarios.  Which game should we be the most worried about?  And why? What will be our record the next 3 weeks?

I Think We Could Find A Way To Grind All Three Of These Wins Out!

But Peterson will have to get his game going! See ya next week Baltimore. Maybe you can wake Peterson up Ray, but hope Peterson don’t put you to sleep instead. It will be a great battle.

As The Play Snaps, One Dream, One Team, One Head Coach will be on top! Will It Be The Vikings?

by UnBannedVikingholic on Oct 11, 2009 10:47 PM CDT reply actions

All 3 teams have their weaknesses that can be exploited.

Your Vikings, from what I’ve seen, are a complete team and should be favoured to win them all…The addendum would be if Polamalu is back and healthy, that Pittsburg game becomes alot tougher

RIP Bodhi - Not tragic to die doing what you love. You want the ultimate thrill, you gotta be willing to pay the ultimate price.

2-1

Could the Vikings win their next three games? Yes. Will they? Not likely, IMO.

I see the game at Pittsburgh as the most likely of the three to be a loss—the Steelers are still a good squad, offensive line woes or no, and that is a tough place to play.

The Ravens look more beatable than they did two weeks ago, and since it is at Minnesota I favor the Vikings. This now actually looks like the most likely win to me of the three.

At Green Bay should be a challenge, but I don’t see the Packers fixing all their problems in a couple weeks’ time. I’m going out on a small limb and picking this as a win for the Vikings, a win more likely than the Pittsburgh game.

by Midnight Rambler on Oct 12, 2009 8:46 AM CDT reply actions

If Packers have Clifton and Tauscher both in playing shape by 11/1

… that would actually go a long way towards fixing their biggest problem.

by puddnhead on Oct 12, 2009 8:52 AM CDT up reply actions

Yep, as I expected, Packers sign Tauscher

Now, the question is, will he be ready by the end of htis month. According to articles coming out, he hasn’t done any football conditioning since he got hurt last year.

+1

Nice, rational, realistic expectations there. I would have no problem being 7-1 and atop the NFC North.

by Eric J. Thompson on Oct 12, 2009 3:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Could win all 3, but none of these are a lock

I see Pitt. on the road is the biggest threat. Baltimore has shown a few weaknesses that can be exploited in terms of their defense and Flacco can still be rattled with pressure. I think we’ll take the Pack in a close game with both teams just a little better than the first match-up. Only real threat from the Pack, is if Rogers has great game. The Steelers are the only team that I see as a full equal with no big weakness. I haven’t seen anything that makes me think this is a team so special to go 16-0, so I think we’ll dump 2-4 close games this year to a couple great teams and the Steelers have as good a chance of beating the Vikings as any other team.

I like people's optimism

… but, winning all three of these would be quite a feat. I agree it’s possible, but I would not predict it.

I see 2-1 or 1-2. I’m having a hard time predicting which one(s) would be wins & losses though. I still fear the Ravens, and the other two are on the road.

The Vikes need to bring their A-Game

No game is ever a ‘lock’ any more, the worst team in the NFL isn’t really that much worse than the best. I could see us losing any of the three, or winning all three; it all depends on what we bring to the table each week. The most likely loss, if there is one, will be to Pittsburgh, but even they’re beatable.

I think these will be the keys to the games;

1) No serious injuries for the Vikings, all our top players need to be able to play

2) We need our secondary to step up if they’re going to shut down Flacco, Big Ben, and Rodgers, or we’re going to get burned bad on those deep balls.

3) Adrian Peterson needs to remember how to run the ball, WITHOUT fumbling it. It’s great that we have a more balanced offense, but our great RB has been remarkably ineffective lately.

4) Finally, the Vikings have to play well. ‘Great’ would be better, but if everyone shows up and plays well, we’ll probably win at least 2 out of the 3. If we play great and stomp early, stomp often, and never let up, we can win all 3 games. Decisively.

Good points, but
…the worst team in the NFL isn’t really that much worse than the best.

I think the Giants and Raiders just showed us exactly how much worse (one of the) worst teams in the NFL is compared to (one of the) best.

by Eric J. Thompson on Oct 12, 2009 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

and so did the Vikings...

we gave them some points during ‘scrub-ball’ is all.

I BELIEVE...

by ArizonaVikingsFan on Oct 12, 2009 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions

From your comment, I guess the Giants beat up on the Raiders? Normally I like the underdog, but the Raiders are still on my steamy-brown-stuff list (yeah, I’m holding a grudge since 1977) so anything bad that happens to them is a positive in my book :)

To be honest, I really don’t pay much attention if it’s not the Vikings. To me every other team in the NFL might as well have the same name; “Viking Opponent”. I only look at the relevant team prior to the Vikings game, and sometimes I’ll watch the Super Bowl in an idle, I-Really-Don’t-Give-A-Crap sort of way… if there’s nothing else worth watching on TV. If there’s no Purple and Gold on the field, it’s meaningless to me.

I’ve seen too many games where the odds were beaten to take that with 100% faith. Even if it’s a scrub team, between draft picks and free agency, there’s always a chance they can have a very good day and a great team can have an awful day. Vikings have been on both sides of that equation many times through the years.

I see 2 wins 1 loss

I think the Ravens will start to stumble as people realize Flacco is still relatively new and can scheme him into the ground. If Polamalu is back Pit will be a tough team to beat. They like to run (which we can stop) but they also pass well, they are actually a lot like the vikes in how they play. As for Green Bay, we split these game pretty much every dang year. Here’s to hoping this one isn’t one of em.

by Grime on Oct 12, 2009 9:46 AM CDT reply actions

As for Green Bay, we split these game pretty much every dang year.

That statement striked me as odd so I looked up the history. FYI last year was actually the first time since 2003 that one team didn’t sweep the series.

by puddnhead on Oct 12, 2009 10:10 AM CDT up reply actions

We always split with the Bears, not the Packers.

In the ten seasons prior to this 2009 season, the Vikings and Bears have split the season series six times, with each team sweeping twice. So we’re 10-10 against the Bears in the past decade.

by Eric J. Thompson on Oct 12, 2009 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Baltimore should be winnable. How did the Bengals win on sunday? They shut down Derrick Mason. Our offense gave up some big plays on Sunday, but against #1 WRs they’ve done pretty well so far. You don’t see them having good games against us. So I’m willing to predict a victory next week based on the idea that we should be able to stop their offense, and they may have trouble doing the same to us.

The other two could easily be toss ups.

by Frost on Oct 12, 2009 9:52 AM CDT reply actions

I'll be optimistic and say 3-0

Although the Steelers game really worries me, especially if they can get their running game going.

by Hjorvarthr on Oct 12, 2009 10:31 AM CDT reply actions

If we continue

Play sound defense and take care of the ball AD will eat them up in the 4th

by vikefansd on Oct 12, 2009 11:22 AM CDT up reply actions

My only concern....

If Boller/Bolger can throw all over our secondary, then Big Ben will be able to with cataracts and a broken wrist.

by Figgs on Oct 12, 2009 11:35 AM CDT up reply actions

Unlike most people here, I’m most worried about the Ravens. Flacco has show a propensity for great/calm play and their D is always to be feared. The Steelers I worry only if Troy P. is back. The Pack is beatable using exactly the same plan as we used last Monday.

by zebano on Oct 12, 2009 1:20 PM CDT reply actions

They are all beatable...

We get the Ravens at home and have good experience with the 3-4 now…
Stealers lost at Chicago… that might be a ‘must win’ for late season standings.
The Pack at Lambeau will be another emotional night for #4…

Execute and Win!

GO VIKES!!

I BELIEVE...

by ArizonaVikingsFan on Oct 12, 2009 1:46 PM CDT up reply actions

i am not

My old coach use to tell me control what you can and what you can’t don’t worry about it. What we can control is our play on the field. Hold on to the ball. run our route. play discipline defense. work hard. If we could do that i will be ok.

by vikefansd on Oct 12, 2009 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Any given Sunday

can go either way. Nice to see the Vikings cut down on mistakes, make some big plays, and air out the pigskin. If the next three teams play well, coaching will loom as a major factor. Interesting to see how Chili et al fare. There is the McCarthy-BC drama every time the great rivalry happens; Tomlin as former Vikings coach in the Steeler matchup. In close games, coaching, strategy, and execution are amplified in importance. This team has the talent, no doubt. Not still convinced about the coaching, though #4 seems to have changed the way things were done in the past (for obvious reasons). I’m excited for some competition after the easy first third of the schedule.

by uncle rico on Oct 12, 2009 3:34 PM CDT reply actions

I worry about the Steelers the most for two reasons: 1. Ben’s ability to avoid sacks and 2. Tomlins intimate knowledge of our D.

We are the vikings.......resistance is futile.

by Hoss-Drone on Oct 12, 2009 10:07 PM CDT reply actions

Been a couple years for Tomlin

I’m not sure how much he still knows about what the Vikings have, and what they’re doing with it, today.

These are all winnable games

When the season started I thought this would be a 1-2 stretch, at best. All three of these games are winnable, and anything less than 2-1 would be a disappointment.

Pittsburgh will be the toughest test, especially on the road. But this is why you have Brett Favre, for situations like this. And a sweep against Green Bay really puts the Vikes in the drivers seat against them for tiebreakers.

Agree

My expectation would also be minimal 2-1 as follows:

(1) Possible loss against P-Burgh – only possible, because we can beat that team from what I have seen so far….Detroit was not far away from making them lose….Will all come down to Big Ben…How “on” will he be, and can he avoid our pass rush/blitzes to get receptions…

(2) Think this year we sweep GB, will be tough game, but we persevere and get the W….Does not matter who they sign between now and then,,,,the next one will not be as close as the first was…

(3) Ravens are beatable, and we have them in the dome…Just have to play our game, and not let them play theirs (AD and Favre and Co will do it, along w D)…

I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!
