Wide Receivers
I just want to say that I am happy to see the way or WRs are catching the balls this year (despite Bernard Berrian, Week 3). We are finally getting the results we've been looking for from Sidney Rice. Percy Harvin has been great catching nearly every ball that is thrown to him and that kick off return was something too. Bernard Berrian is starting to get on track with Favre and should get better. Shiancoe started right were he left off last year.
What are your thoughts on the group this year?
Also a poll if your interested.

Chester Taylor
Until our O-line issues are cleared up but all our receivers(WR’s,TE’s and RB’s)are
really starting to gel with Brett.
Sydneys summer with Chris Carter and Larry Fitzgerald is paying big dividends.

I'm with you on Chester
I think he will be a go to guy for Favre all year long.

and Harvin barely missed that long play.
I don’t want to get greedy but isnt that play the defination of a ground causing a fumble….?

Its that tricky gray area
In the new NFL judgement on catches. You know have to maintain clear possession all the way through the catch untill your momentum has stopped you.

I voted for Rice
But I love Shank — he’s a terribly underrated TE. Quality hands, good blocking, plays with a lot of passion. I’m loving our whole offense this year!

It's Rice or Shiancoe
Berrian – Not consistent enough. He’s primarily a deep threat and can be shut down when teams take away the deep routes from him.
Rice – Good on both possession and deep routes. Great burst to get open. Will get keyed on more heavily as team recognize how good he is. Without an equal WR opposite him, I think his numbers level off.
Harvin – A rookie who’s doing so many different things won’t be on the field as a WR enough to be the top receiver, nor should he be. Might be different next year.
Shianco – Shown he’s a top 5 receiving tight end. He’s on the field frequently and a real match-up problem for many teams. As we don’t have a single “go-to” WR, and the others will trade off on who has the big week, he could end up on top with consistent yards nearly every game.
Others – Reynaud and Johnson are good but not on the field enough or polished enough to be a top receiver. Jimmy K. and Dugan aren’t big yardage threats. Taylor isn’t on the field enough and Peterson is only average as a receiving threat (though getting better).

+1
Agreed on all points.
Only thing I’d add is that Rice is proving to be so much more than just a simple WR. His downfield blocking has been critical for the success of every other receiver and RB on the team, and his performance on the ST for those on-side kick recoveries was just amazing. This keeps up he’s going to start looking like a superman.

A couple different ways to answer
I voted for Shank because he’ll have the team lead in receiving TD’s, but Harvin will have the most yards, and Rice will be the best combination of those two and probably have the most catches.
Go Nevada Wolf Pack!

an aside
I heard Chip the writer over at the Trib refer to “Farvin” in one of their video clip talks. I have to say I like those things.

Growing as a team.
The receivers have all improved over last year so far. I am sure a lot of that has to do with the leadership and truct shown in the huddle.

Reality Check
Without Shiancoe, Favre sucks big time.
by Welzy on Oct 12, 2009 6:24 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Uh, how's that?
Shiancoe has 13 receptions this year, placing him fifth on the team. He’s a good red zone threat, but really, extrapolate how you get from point A…no Visanthe Shiancoe, to point B…Favre sucks.

put down the wacky tobaccy, welzy
even without shank, favre is still kickin butt now that his arm is as healthy as his ability to read defenses and react.

Sidney Rice
was a guy I really liked in 2007, and I thought he’d be a great possession guy, and towards the end of that year him and TJ really seemed to be developing some chemistry, and was a good red zone option. His knee injury really set him back last year, and he was terrible. This season he really seems to be developing into a legitimate threat on the field. He has good hands, a sense of where the first down marker is, and showed some big play ability against the Rams.
I have every reason to think he’ll be a productive guy for years to come.

I also agree with the Rice assessment. I really liked what he did in 07 and was quite disappointed in 08. However the Packers game and a few nice catches in the first quarter on Sunday are really making me optimistic about his future.

Didn't Vote...
because from what we’ve seen so far, Brett’s going to be peppering the ball around to everybody (which will cause more headaches for defensive coordinators). I do however like the way that Sidney has stepped up his game so far and I think that Percy will greatly improve as the year goes by.

Rice
Is coming of age. He is getting his “man hat” on. He picks Favre’s brain and tries to develop a report/chemistry. He is not afraid to of the hard throws and has adjusted and taken his game to a higher level.
I also like seeing Sid point to himself when he blows a route and learns from it. Unlike some guys who only point to themself when “I” score.
Bravo Sidney. I knew it would come out some day.

Hey Citrus
Welcome back. I was getting worried about you after your post over a week ago. Looks like everything turned out okay.
