PFT: Winfield Will Have MRI on Monday
Pro Football Talk is reporting that Antoine Winfield will have an MRI on Monday after suffering a foot injury today. Florio says the Vikings are nervous about Winfield, but we'll see. Meanwhile, Adrian Peterson says he's fine after hurting his left ankle, and the status of Percy Harvin for next week remains to be seen.

It was nice to see AP wasn't really hurt
I don’t expect to see Winfield or Harvin @ Steelers, but lets hope they’re healthy for the Packer game.

over at kfan
the notes story has Childress quoted as saying Winfield wanted to come back in the 2nd half but that they wanted to err on the side of caution. That tells me that it isn’t super serious although turf toes can linger. With the hot start, I say let him and Perce get time off if they need it.

Is that what it was?
Turf toe? Not that turf toe doesn’t suck, but some sites out there are making it sound like the world is ending.
Personally, I don't give a crap about Brett Favre.

Turf toe sometimes requires surgery. I wonder if the sense of drama is because Florio was one of the first and added that fingers crossed phrase or whatever it was. I can’t believe that guy is now mainstream.

I know it can be bad...
… but some guys play through it and others just end up being gone for a couple of weeks of rehab. Depends on the severity and pain tolerance, I guess.

Ya
I think Woodson had a lingering turf toe injury nearly all of last year. But toe injuries can be very serious. I think Henderson’s season was cut short because of one last year, and we’ve all seen LT’s decline since his toe injury (though his age has probably played a factor in that as well)

EJ broke 3 toes...
SO that is much different than turf toe…a bad turf toe can last for a season or so. It depends basically how much his toe was stuck and how far he torqued on it

Turf toe
has ended the career of some players. It can be quite serious.

Waste of Money
Why did we waste FA money on Karl Paymah? As soon as he was in the game, Flacco began a surgical dissection of his coverage abilities. On one TD pass he had his back to the receiver and didn’t even make an attempt at the ball or to separate the receiver from the ball. Spielman and Chilly better be making inquires as to the availability of corners in the event that Winfield is going to be out more than a week. Paymah is a horrible replacement IMO!!!

In Payma's defense
Payma doesn’t get much playing time anyway, so there’s no way he was going to be prepared to fill in for Winfield. Plus it’s Paymas first season as a VIking, whereas Winfield has been here for like 12yrs.
Now I’m not saying Payma is a good CB, but he had some big shoes to fill today.

Paymah is a special teams guy
Which he excels at (saved a TD on a kick return), but he’s downright below average as a CB. Let’s all hope for a speedy recovery for #26.

Trade for someone, quick!
This goes to show the vulnerability we have….still time to trade for someone….
May become crucial as the season goes along….shows we are one injury away from potential disaster….
Zygi has shown he has the will to open the wallet to now to make us SB contenders, one more time PLEASE…
Maybe MN could throw in a stadium as a quid pro quo LOL!
STILL….SKOL…Go Vikings!!!!
I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

That thought crossed my mind
You know Rick Spielman had a list ready and Childress has seen it. It will probably depend on the seriousness of the injury, then based on what is available and their spin up time versus who we have on the roster already.
It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a Viking to raze a village.

Asher Allen will probably be active next week.

Didn't Al Davis
say pretty much anyone on his roster was for sale?

If so...

I don't think Winfield has
turf toe. I thought I read that he tweeked something in the top of his foot…not the toes.

We did see CB depth issues at the end of the game
Winfield and Griffen are quality starters. Benny Sapp has improved dramatically since last year and might be serviceable for a couple games if needed until we get a starter back, but is hurt also. I’m not sure how ready Asher Allen is at this point, but we may find out. The defense relys on having good starting corners as our safeties are much more the tackling, run-stuffer types and are average at best on coverage (for starting safeties). If Paymah keeps going against quality WRs, we’ll see teams lighting it up on us repeatedly.

I think the vikes
didn’t plan for 2 CBs to go down. Asher is better than Paymah, although I am open to seeing whether we could pry something out of Oakland since they are apparently selling.

If we trade picks for another CB, who do we drop from the roster?
Paymah is one of our top special teams players, I’d guess #4 behind Farwell, Reynaud, and Johnson. I’d be very hesistant to let Paymah go because of this. Besides, he’s serviceable as a dime back. Maybe Greg Lewis? Kenny Onatolu?

This is the week for Asher Allen
and a offensive scheme that keeps the ball for long drives. I am very confident in the team, the coaching staff, and the leaders. SKOL we need to bring the Gjallarhorn to remiond the Steelers, that The vikings have arrived.
