Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

Best in the NFC?

I love the Vikings, don't get me wrong, but is 6-0 enough to say we are the best in the NFC?

Star-divide

Going into Week 5, the Vikings were the most scoring offense. Leaving today, we just got passed. We were passed by a Saints Offense that put up 48 against the league's #1 Defense thus far.

... Is that utterly terrifying or am I getting too ahead of myself?

I would agrue. Yes the Vikings are the most complete team in the NFC. I love our Offense. I love 9 members of our defense =P But the saints now have a great running game and a top 10 defense. They didn't just beat the Giants, they destroyed them. It look like week 1 Saints vs Lions all over again.

THEY LOOK GOOD!!!

If we were matched up, lets say in the NFC championship, could we ground pound and have Favre manage the game and do what he does (Dominate) long enough to keep Drew Brees, and his Golden Arm that Penetrates the end zone so often, off the Field?!?! Lets be honest, our secondary is shaky, and without winfield today, that 4th quarter was hands down the worst quarter we've played in our 6 wonderful victories.

So, are we, The Minnesota Vikings 6-0, best runningback in the league, the silverfox, the four horesman; the best team in the NFC?

'Aints

I am so scared of what the Saints would have looked like against our fourth quarter “cough” defense…

The Saints...

But they are a QB injury away from being aweful, too.

I BELIEVE...

Wish you guys played the Giants sooner than week 17, or the Saints at all...

… so we could find out. It’s hard to believe, but your offense is less potent than the Saints and you give up more yards on defense than the Giants (though not today, of course). The Giants don’t have much of an argument after today, but the same game probably gives the Saints a better argument than the Vikings at this point.

No one else is close to those three right now.

Personally, I don't give a crap about Brett Favre.

Voted For Vikes...

because we really won’t know who’s better until the teams meet on the field. Sure, the Saints look awesome but as I recall they looked great last year too when we went into New Orleans and came out with a win (tell the truth, how many of us expected the team to get the W with Gus at QB?). If not for Reggie Bush’s two TD returns that game isn’t even close. Our quarterback is better this year and so is our team. You could argue the same for New Orleans so I guess we’ll have to hope the two meet in the playoffs. Until proven otherwise, I cast my ballot for the Purple.

One game doesn't mean much

Would you have voted for Philly before their loss today? Everyone loved Seattle last week.

The Saints are the best this week because they beat a good club by a lot. Don’t mean a thing against the Vikes because we have this great pass defense, ect. Oh Oh-

Yep, vote for the Saints

by lifelongvike on Oct 18, 2009 11:02 PM CDT reply actions

Not Really

I’ve considered Philly overrated by the media all year. Today proved that as Donovan had one of “those” games where he had trouble hitting open receivers. I didn’t “love” Seattle either. The Saints were flying high last year too then came crashing back down to earth with a thud. It’s still too early to predict how the rest of the season will go. Hopefully the game against the Ravens today will deflate the Vikings heads some and keep them more focused in the weeks ahead.

Saints

That offense really is deadly. I would say Saints, Vikings, and then Giants.

Here is mine

1.Vikings
2. Saints
3. Giants

I think we (vikings) are NO.1 mainly because we have not seen the best of the vikings yet. Favre is just about getting in the grove. Today we miss one of our best defender(NO.26). If he was there they would not have gotten all the yards. They were picking on No. 41.
Note to No. 41 you never let the receiver to the inside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by vikefansd on Oct 18, 2009 11:37 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed to the max!

Winfield wouldn’t allowed half of the yards giving up to Karl!

Not so fast

You gave up 385 to us week 4 with Winfield playing. The secondary appears to be a bit suspect for you guys. But fortunately the d-line play covers their poor play up a lot.

by packallday555 on Oct 19, 2009 12:20 AM CDT up reply actions

What?????

We were never scare of you. even if we 10 more quarter we still would beat the pisssss ars packers If you think you had a chance to win that game you are dreaming. We were so in control of the game that we just mess around a little bit.

by vikefansd on Oct 19, 2009 2:06 AM CDT up reply actions

Appears.

Just because we are 24th in the league does not mean we deserve to be 24th in the league in passing defense. There is about 250 yards and two TD’s that can be attributed to mop up time where we had our 2nd stringers in.

Then 384 against Green Bay, but GB is a passing team. Of course we are going to be giving up a lot of passing yards to the Pack.

Then there is this mess with the Ravens. With Winfield, I am comfortable taking away 50-70 yards and a TD from the Ravens passing offense. Too bad we had Asher Allen inactive, as he would have filled in for Winfield much better than Karl “I play special teams” Paymah.

Now, I am not saying we are good, only that we are better at pass defense than we look.

by Bjorno on Oct 19, 2009 9:47 AM CDT up reply actions

If you start ranking based on a team’s “potential” then remember that perhaps the Saints will keep improving their defense. That could get scary quick.

by cutlassbob on Oct 19, 2009 1:29 AM CDT up reply actions

How?

Do they not match up with us? Brees would tear apart the soft middle of our Tampa 2 defense. We have the weapons to compete in a shootout game…but against the Saints and their offense? Our defense isn’t ready yet (reference the 4th quarter against the Ravens).

by cutlassbob on Oct 19, 2009 9:11 AM CDT up reply actions

They can't run

they can’t run against us. It will make them a one dimensional team.

I say Vikes!

BECAUSE OF JARED ALLEN! and AP’s game changing runs. If you watch the Saints they really don’t do anything special but execute very well on slants, curves, and screens. Mainly because no one gets pressure on Drew Brees. I think if Jared were to get to Drew a few times, it could change alot! On the other hand, the Saints Defense can make some plays also, but i don’t know how well they would match up to Adrian Peterson. Heck even Darren Sharper wouldn’t want to be in the open field with him! Saints Strike Fast Offense, Vikings can strike fast but mostly grind for every yard, and play well 3 quarters on defense. Which 3? I really don’t know its random every game. However judgments by us doesn’t matter when the two teams square up, because the best team will win regardless, and as of now, There is no Stand-Out winner. Heck some can argue Atlanta is in the mix also!

by UnBannedVikingholic on Oct 18, 2009 11:37 PM CDT reply actions

Also the Saints don't settle for 3 points

They strive for 7 everytime instead of doing some kind of draw or broken screen on 3rd and long!

Saints # 1

Saints # 1, Vikings # 2

The Saints crushed the other contender for Best Team in the NFC, while the Vikings squeaked by a good, but not great, Ravens team.

by Midnight Rambler on Oct 19, 2009 10:11 AM CDT reply actions

It's really quite simple.

At 6-0 the Vikings not only have the best record in the NFC, they also own the best record in the NFL. This record could be shared if Denver wins tonight.

Even though I voted Vikings....

It’s probably the Saints. However they are very beatable. You just have to have the right game plan.

Which is run run run, get their D tired. Convert short 1st down passes if you need it. Keep their O off the field as much as possible. Hope to catch the offense trying to make a big play and capitalize on turnovers….

by dsludo on Oct 19, 2009 11:11 AM CDT reply actions

Fair is fair

I’d love to rank our guys #1, but the Saints straight up DISMANTLED the Giants previously #1 defense. I don’t want to see our secondary against their offense right now.

by Eric J. Thompson on Oct 19, 2009 2:08 PM CDT reply actions

Saints look tough to beat.

Not saying we can’t do it but right now I’m a bit worried about our D.

That’s not even the worst issue though. Far worse than the d is Chilly’s play calling. Seriously why the hell did he stop passing to Shank and Rice in the first half? We shoulf have beaten the living snot out of them. It KILLS me that he gets a lead and sits. We have a high caliber offense here and we need to use it. The running three and outs do burn the clock but they also put our D on the field for way to long. One of the reasons we fell apart in the fourth is because our D was out there for so dang long.

As well we lost momentum Chilly this is the NFL. People are good and they will come back 24 points in the fourth! Don’t ever let your boot come off of their necks!

The VIKINGS are #1

So now they’re saying that because we took our foot off the Raven’s throat this weekend, and gave them a real shot at coming back in the final 8.5 minutes of the game, that the Vikings win wasn’t legit. The Ravens could have won. And this is true. It’s also true that pigs could come flying out of Goodell’s posterior, but it hasn’t happened. Yet.

They say that the Vikings have had nothing but soft opponents, so the 5 previous wins aren’t legit. So we must all doubt the ability of the Vikings. Their 6-0 record doesn’t really mean a whole lot.

Next week, we play the Steelers. They say we can’t win because the Steelers are defending Super Bowl champs, and so they’re better. They say we can’t win because Favre sucks in cold weather. They say we can’t win because Big Ben will pick apart our secondary. And if we beat the Steelers up one side of the field and down the other, but in the final 4 minutes the Steelers come back and we win on a last second FG by Longwell, they’ll say that the Vikings aren’t legit, because, you know, the Steelers could have won.

Only… the Ravens didn’t win. And neither did those previous 5 teams, whoever they were, somewhere back there in the rear-view mirror. And my money’s on the Vikings this coming weekend, playing the Steelers at home.

I know the records, I’ve heard the arguments about who killed who (MP), I know all about the Vikings weaknesses and the Saints strengths, I even read most of the comments above.

After some serious consideration on the matter, I came to my conclusion that absolutely, uncategorically, without a doubt, the Minnesota Vikings are the #1 team in all of FOOTBALL, amateur and professional, in all variations (Canadian, rugby, soccer, and US American!), period. And they always will be, no matter what the records state :)

My justification is absolute. I’m not neutral. I’m not ESPN or Switzerland. I’m a Vikings fan, and I’m not interested in being fair to the other teams in this matter.

Ah, ah,

From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
