First Ever Viking Game
Living in Nebraska I've never had an opportunity to take in a Viking game.
My roommate (fellow Viking fan) and I decided to knock this off the bucket list and choose this game before the season.
Bought tickets in the end zone. Fourteen rows up. On Adrian Peterson's long run it felt like he was running right at us. Incredible feeling.
Here are my thoughts:
- I had never been to any NFL game and thing that stood out the most was how many jerseys were prevalent. Insane. On the same note, why the hell are people wearing any of the following: Michael Bennett, Daunte Culpeper, Chris Hovan, Dwayne Rudd, Erasmus James (could have been personalized) or Gus Ferrotte? If you are willing to spend money on a jersey at least update to someone better. I find Randy Moss, Chris Carter, Randell Cunningham, John Randel and Matt Birk acceptable because they were incredibly important at one time or another.
- Continuing the jersey theme, I wore a Peterson one. I've never conformed so much in my life. Pretty awesome. First jersey I've ever owned. If I were to get another it'd probably be Winfield.
- Bathroom lines are ridiculous. Hell walking in that concourse is ridiculous.
- Cheerleaders looked better far away than up close.
- The Metrodome is far smaller than I realized.
- My roommate remarked on the drive home, "They have a really dumb chant." I actually really enjoyed Skol Viking and knew going in how often it would occur. Not sure how or why it annoyed him.
- Traffic enraged both of us. The 35-W detour was pretty poorly marked and we struggled to get out of town.
- I can't wait to comeback. I go to and cover the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football team but the atmosphere after the win on Sunday was just wild.
Go Vikings!

Do you go to UNL...?
I’m a student at Creighton and I was at the game yesterday as well. However, I’ve been to many Vikes games and I’m from MN. Glad you had a good time!
-It’s funny how you say that about the NFL and its jerseys ‘cause all of my Cornhusker friends think it’s weird how I wear my jersey every Sunday.
- Some people don’t have the money in this economy to get a newer jersey (I myself sport Cedric Griffin, I love DBs and I’m just trying to be different)
- How did you like our terrible concourses? hahaha.
- The Dome may be small but it is THE loudest place to watch a football game. Forget Arrowhead and the Superdome.
-I also love “Skol Vikings”

Yep, I attend UNL.
It was one of the loudest games I’ve ever been too. Especially after the missed kick.

Glad you had a good time.
You are so right about the concoarse and the restrooms. I try to do as little navigating as possible while at the stadium. I for one like to see all the throwback jerseys. While I usually wear a newer one, I have been known to wear an older one from time to time. Last year my son, a friend, and I all went to a game wearing #99, but all from a different player. Hovan, Harris, and James.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the Tarkenton and Carter jerseys. There’s just a point at which Michael Bennett needs to be retired.

Lucky
Vikes games are waay to expensive for me to attend. I’ve been to one regular season game in my life (free tickets), and it was the opening game a few years ago.
Oh, and double lucky. You got to see them win, and I witnessed Carolina winning the only game they would win all season.
Color me green.

If you are going to correct the spelling, you might as well do all of it, not just a little.

Old School Jersey
Anyone remember the old Tarkenton jerseys that were really pretty much just a Blue/Purple shirt with the number and name? Mary Tyler Moore sported one in the intro to her show (43 second mark): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88MGa1ePWJE
That is what I want – Classic. Until I score one of those. I’ll stick with my Cris Carter jersey. I personally wouldn’t buy a jersey for a player that hasn’t contributed to the Viings for at least 5 years.

Truly Classic
I actually checked this out from pictures going back to year 1; the Vikings jerseys, even in the very first year, had arm-stripes, which are missing from the MTM opening. To be fair, there are some other jersey designs that were worn by Vikings other than Tark which had different sleeve designs, sometimes in the same games. Bottom line; the classic #10 jersey that the NFL currently sponsors does go back to the first game the Vikings ever played, so it’s kosher :)
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!

Authentic?
I agree that the MTM jersey is not authentic to what the Vikes were actually wearing, but it IS authentic to what all of us kids were wearing in the 70’s. That is what makes it desirable to me…

35W
I live right by where 35W and Hwy 62 intersect, and I feel your pain. I’ve had to take about six different routes to and from work in the past few months thanks to all the traffic switches. It’s not a good time on that stretch of road no matter where you’re trying to get.
As far as the bathroom lines and concourse go…now you see why we need a new stadium soon.
