Winfield in Walking Boot
Winfield's status remains unclear, but he was wearing a walking boot when the locker room was opened up to the media today. Not the greatest indication of his status for next week, so hopefully we'll get some better information soon.

No, not good
However, I would rather see both Percy and Winfield sit out this next game if they’re not feeling quite ready. We lose to Pit… so be it. The game after that is far more important in my book along with a bye week to rest up immediately after it. Yeah, looking ahead is bad and all, but…
I disagree
The way things the Saints are going, we’re going to need 14-15 wins to get a #1 seed in the NFC. I do NOT want to go down to the Superdome to play the game that decides our Super Bowl fate (not counting chickens, but I’m just saying…)
Lets make sure we win the division before we worry about the #1 seed.
This Steelers game doesn’t really matter. The Vikes are like +2-W’s ahead of everybody else in the NFC. (except the saints & giants)
The Vikes still have some tough NFC games on their schedule, and things could get ugly if they’re not careful. Same with the Saints & Giants.
Resting Winfield and Harvin this week is probably the smartest thing the Vikes can do right now. It would be nice to sweep the Packers @ Lambeau. But to do that, I think the Vikings will need both Winfield and Harvin healthy. :~)
Not only that, but guys like Payma and A.Allen need all the experience they can get. This week is the best to do that….IMO.
Go Vikes!
I somewhat agree...
We need the non-conference wins though, too.
The Bears beat the Steelers, so we kind of need this game to keep pace with that, IMO.
I BELIEVE...
On the improbable Vikings win against the Ravens...

No offense, but I still say let them rest.
We got a 3-game lead on the Bears, and the Bears lost @ Lambeau. If the Vikes can sweep the Packers @ Lambeau in two-weeks, then I think they’ll pretty much secure their spot as division champs. I know the Vikes still have to beat the Bears, but I really don’t see the Bears being a problem for the Vikings…(for now anyway)
So IMO, resting Winfield and Harvin this week could definitely pay off in the long run!

The boot is a head fake. I remember pitching little league in Glen Lake Optomoist Fields, right off of Excelsior Boulevard. My dad used to put my arm in a sling to mess with the other tean – ice was added for effect.. Buttermaker stuff.

Not beyond the realm of possibility… It will be interesting to see how the injury report comes out later in the week, since some form of truthfulness is required there, as the Jets have just painfully discovered recently with regard to last season, although the Belichick Creative School of Medicine probably still teaches some advanced courses in health assessments…
The thing that gets
me is that if Winfield wanted to come back in on Sunday…then it isn’t bad enough to require a walking boot.

a decent ankle sprain can require a walking boot
and a tough, NFL player in a big game would want to play with a decent ankle aprain.

The Packers, that’s who.

He will play...
He said so on KFAN. Monday morning taped interview. Can hear it on KFAN.com. Fan on demand section. Paul Allen show first hour.

ya and paymah should never play another down besides special teams
Vikings 4 the superbowl
I wanted to share some personal insight into Antoine Winfield’s foot situation. I had a foot sprain once before. If what I have been reading is correct, Toine had a pain on the top of his foot and it’s been ruled a sprain.
The sprain happens when the cartilage between your metatarsals (big bones near the top of your foot) is stretched or torn. Everytime you take a step the bones in your feet spread slightly to distribute weight, which makes it hard for the sprain to heal. The purpose of the walking boot is to prevent anything from moving when he puts weight on the foot.
A good tight tape job prior to the game will minimize any pain. He should be able to play at near 100% this Sunday, but I wouldn’t be suprised if he continues to wear the boot for a couple of weeks.

I agree with many of you...
as you all have made good points. I am looking at Winfield and Harvin as two of our strengths and would like to have them in there. BUT…if it means risking a loss to the Steelers by letting them heal, I say “let them heal”. If you look at the teams the Steelers have beaten and who they have been beaten by, the Chargers are probably their best competition and the Chargers are going to be lucky to win another 3 games as it looks. I think we can beat them without Winfield or Harvin. I agree with the post that said, “I don’t want to go to the Superdome to play the Championship game to decide our superbowl fate”. Keep the faith fellow vikings fans. I am loving the way we are playing and enjoying the 6-0 record…SKOAL!
packer fan here....
It is always tough situation for us fans….but I think Winfield will be fine. As much as I hate playing against him, I always respect the hell out of the way he plays (I felt the same way about Chris Carter). While I think the rematch in lambeau will be a great game, even if Green Bay wins (and it is a big, big if), Minnesota’s schedule favors the team down the stretch. I just think you guys have a pretty complete team this year and the weaknesses (that every team has) are glaring. While I agree about not wanting to play the Saints in the dome, i think Minnesota matchs up pretty well against them. Anyways, this will be a great season and I hope you guys stay healthy.
PS. Oh yeah…and please let Brett not play good in lambeau :)))))
